Back in the Sixties and Seventies Channel Airways operated many a flight down to the Channel Islands so where have all these passengers gone??

Even when British Air Ferries were around they operated a number of flight to Jersey in the summer.

If the price is good value for money then people will travel i do agree with you a mid week flight could be viable but until they think of basing an aircraft in Southend there is no spare capacity with the Jersey based aircraft so who knows what might happen:ok: :ok:

In the 60's and 70's Jersey was the nearest most people could get to a "foreign" holiday and more or less every UK airport had relatively frequent services to Jersey. Most people will now be off to the Spanish costas etc where sun is guaranteed and a cheaper holiday is on offer.

The Channel Islands is still popular but with a smaller visitor base, hence the reduction in flights.

Maybe the lo-cost operators can help the Islands regain popularity.

Flybe have announced a Newquay base. The first route is EDI

More like they have annouced a NQY route as the flight is operated from the EDI base.;)

I know a base for Flybe doesnt always involve a based aircraft but I think further NQY routes could be announced. Im sure BE wouldn't call an airport with three flights a week a base ;)

They said in a local news article that they have 6 potential route they are looking at from NQY!!

I know WOW said that if the new BRS-NWI route is a success they would consider a NWI route from PLH and/or NQY. Perhaps Flybe will beat them to it :O

I'd love to hear GROUNDHOG's view on a Flybe base at NQY with several routes.

I know your bored of the same old post... But another bad dash 8 day for flybe

BHD-SOU Cancelled this morning. Tech reasons!! How can a plane go tech first thing in the morning when its been sitting on the apron all night?? From an outsiders point of view, surely they should've fixed it over night!! lol

This would never happen in air traffic control... tech reasons are not good enough!! Hee Hee

I would be very surprsied if WOW started a PLH-NWI route as Flybe are stating an EXT-NWI route in May. They might possibly try NQY-BRS-NWI, in the future though. In terms of PLH Airport, it seems if its runway is not extended soon it will be squeezed between NQY in the west and EXT in the east. But then again maybe WOW are happy they are the only player at PLH, if the runway was extended, that position might be put under threat.

Medway - how many Dashes went tech that day? I appreciate that the route you mention suffered, but out of a fleet of 20 odd aircraft it could then be put into perspective!

Out of interest, I think the difference between ATC equipment not going tech over night is that the equipment stays powered up over night and quite often kept used.

A Dash 8, sits on a cold apron, de-powered, getting damp and when powered up, electronics and such like, don't like it. Thats often why aircraft go tech first flight. It may have not been the case this time around but who knows?! I remember Air UK Leisure's first A320's which had come from a damp humid part of the globe ALWAYS went tech first thing in the morning!

...which simply confirms the quality of the Q400 electronics, i.e. fragile, and built to a price.

Never had those problems in the F27... ;)

I wonder whether Flybe will ever consider doing some route expansion from any airport north of BHX?? Hmmmm ... or is it still only southerners who can afford air travel?

we allow defects to go without investigation or without rectification.

Additionally, access to GPUs isn't always readily available as we'd like
at present. This issue is ongoing and shall hopefully be resolved soon.

Flybe in trouble with Department of Transport
 

Flybe today have been told to reverse their policy of charging pax for hold baggage.

The problem has arisen because of increased scanning of carry on bags. The present policy is that 25% of all carry on bags have to be manually searched and because more pax now carry on their own baggage to avoid the charge, the result is extended delays going through security causing major disruption.

Flybe have been given 14 days to respond. I guess Ryanair will have been contacted as well. Talk about 2 peas in a pod!!!

This didnt even cross my mind, but is a very good point!
And i'm sure eventually it would have effected ryanair as the passengers that check-in at home will turn up last minute, to find a big queue at security!
Be interesting to see what will happen from here.
