Obviously if the runway was suitable,and some airline wanted to operate,the terminal would be quickly upgraded. Until the service is demanded,nothing will happen.

My other point is that from a SLF point of view,convenience is more important than facilities,although if people started using the airport,services would improve,as someone always wants to take your money,i.e. catering,shopping,souvenirs(Dundee cake,sacks(jute!),Beanos!)).

Yes I agree there was a lot of cargo at PIK at that time, Fed Ex, Flying Tigers, Polar, Evergreen etc, however that did not impact on the passenger terminal, as I say it was like a ghost town in there.

Since FR started having multiple routes various retail outlets have opened up eg WH Smiths x 2, bars, restaurants etc, all producing jobs for the local economy, anyway we are digressing from the original post of Dundee airport.

£2.3m Package
 

Councillors will be asked tonight to approve a £2.3m package of improvements to be carried out over next 4 years at airport.

Investment will be needed in, Fire Training Eqpt, Emergency vehicles workshop, replacement hovercraft, increased fuel storage capacity and further aircraft parking.

Says council has been in preliminary talks with HIAL, nothing else.

Still no more news on HIAl taking over Dundee, HIAL were in talks at Edinburgh last month but nothing on their website yet. Airport has been on the few occasions when i was in very busy, believe they had lot of traffic because of music event in city.

Was piece in local paper (no link) stating that Jersey charter was busier than ever, company that runs it (Ramsay Travel) say they would love to run more holiday charters but are being hampered by runway length/width. I can see there point but Dundee can take up to largest 146/RJ which has in past operated to majorca so why don't they try that again ? They are running the jersey charter using Vlm F50 which are full, so come on Mr Ramsey what avout upgrading to bigger A/c ?

Can someone let me know what the arrival and departure times of thr Jersey flight are for this year, and is it still a VLM Fokker 50 ?

The Dundee - Palma flight were operated with a Palmair Flightline BAe146 which operated via BOH both ways. Flight sold well in Late June/July and early August , but loads were not great rest of the summer. I know this as i worked for Ramsay's at the time of the Palma flight.

Yes VLM are operating the jersey this year again, time though not sure are about 1300 arr 1400 dep.

Loads for jersey are usually good, though from what i've seen the loads are best ever. Comment in paper about limitations of airport and that ramsey world would love to put more routes on. Spoke to someone from airport who said they will be having a word as there are a lot of airlines and bigger aircraft that can operate from dundee.

Some interesting facts and figures regarding HIAL.

Regarding their involvement with Dundee, the shortfall in funding seems to still be the most significant hurdle to clear. Also doesnt sound like they are any closer to resolving it.

Nice to see local MSP's maintaining dialogue about the airport as well, hopefully keep some pressure on the powers that be.

Just wondering if anyone had heard any more news about the proposed HIAL takeover ? It has all gone quiet, all i have heard is that HIAL are due to visit again shortly.

On a brighter note, noticed the airport was swamped by biz jets last week, so much needed revenue then. Also heard that major construction work in pipeline for enlargement to fire station, fuel dump and a/c parking. So the council cannot be expecting to get rid of airport in near future then ?

Have heard that it has gone all political and the scottish executive are arguing between departments who is going to pay for it !!

On a different not on finals to runway 10 the firemen now have a big shiny green training rig to play with ? Bit strange for a council who are trying to get rid of airport to go and invest in major projects like that ?

On a different note,now that BS/AG are no longer majority shareholders (and influencers) of Scot Airways,will the Sucklings want to continue with Dundee operations? Anybody know if it's profitable?

The party line is that all is well at Dundee, or so it appears from this article.

With the engineering etc at Dundee as well it would seem that they are more heavily involved than simply operating to LCY.

Perhaps we should look towards the other extreme and new routes perhaps?:)

HIAL's proposed takeover seems to be no nearer also.

Interesting article,and the Commercial Manager of ScotAirways sounds upbeat for Dundee and elsewhere. I couldn't help but pick up on this statement though-----

I would take with a pinch of salt anything that numpty says! How he has managed to hold down a position in an airline for so long beggars belief.

As for profitablility of Dnd Lcy route, spoke to one of the crews week ago or so before the gloag/souter pull out. Flights a regularly full, passenger numbers have gone up dramatically in both directions, makes you wonder why no-one has come in to offer competition. Also airport in general has been very busy with charters/private traffic.

Latest rumour for Hial is that they will take control May next year.

Any more rumours about why Gloag and co bailed out of ScotAir? Is it going to be renamed again?

I'm a bit of a fan of the EDI-LCY route (although I'd love to see some sort of decent season ticket that'd let me stop bothering with the alternatives - just too expensive to do that at the moment). Now that London City's got the DLR, it's like having a nice little regional airport on my doorstep - and you can't beat that approach...

I read in one of the monthly magazines that alternative airfields are being looked at to move the ScotAirways LCY flight to. Does not sound good!

Yes heard that also, but from what i gather, it is the other end of route eg replace london city with luton, stanstead. Allegedly problems with delayed flights, costs etc at city. Scot Airways have as far as i know, no plans to leave dundee. (one of their most profitable routes).

You do know Scot Airways only have three routes ;)

Though Im sure it does well otherwise they would pull of it, especially now the Stagecoach founders dont own most of the airline anymore
