Dundee is planning a champagne reception when the Fokker actually arrives on time.

Champagne, more like a carton of Ribena on HIAL's budget. Luckily for them the chances of the Fokker being on-time are slim to none. Plus, the fact that they're struggling to half-fill the thing means they won't have too many people to celebrate with. In the words of the HIAL MD the future is 'Bleak'.

Why wasn't the ScotAirways contract renewed I wonder? Dundee was never going to fill a Fokker 50 alas and those LCY slots can be filled elsewhere I think.

If the LCY route is dropped, can Dundee airport survive? Are there enough pax from the BHX and BFS flights to keep it afloat? 50% load wont be sustainable.

Could Aer Arran sustain an atr 42 operation if the LCY operation is dropped to SEN? They seem to have the idea to develop it into London's regional gateway so the connections could prove useful for both Leisure and business (once the rail lines completed!!)

Does that mean the same number of passengers as 4 DO 328s carried with only 2 F50s? The problem, I think, is the timings are terrible. If you need to get to London within business hours, you will need to go to Edi to catch a flight. It would be easy to totally blame CityJet, but some of the problem lies with LCY. It is so expensive to operate there at peak times that a Dornier, no matter how full is not viable. You need to fill a larger aircraft. Now you have the problem, that there is a larger aircraft on the route, but because you are not operating at business friendly times, you will struggle to fill it. |

DND would be better served by BE to LTN or LGW.
Look at the other domestic routes tried and failed to/from LCY:- PLY, NQY, CWL, MAN, NCL, LBA, JER The only domectic routes that last at LCY are GLA and EDI - mainly due to VERY significant corporate traffic and large VFR markets. DND has neither. HIAL should be strongly courting Loganair (as BE) to operate DND - LTN. |

Luton is as far away from connections to central London as you could get as far as an airline passenger is concerned. It would be cheaper to travel to Edinburgh then fly to Heathrow or Gatwick and that has always been the case. Or, alternatively, take the train. Just because HIAL operate Dundee it doesn't mean that they can susbsidise the place in the same way that that the other "public service" airports in the group have to be. Dundee doesn't come under that category and has to pay it's own way. |
Stats
The Jan figures are out and the movements are down 18 % at 234 flights but the pax figures rose .1% to 4944 so perhaps not as bad as first thought
