That seems remarkable. Any source for that?

Lease not renewed so need to be out by end of June. Vulcans weren't designed to be taken apart and it isn't flying out. How else are they going to do it?

Quite. But my reference was not to the manner of its going. What I find remarkable is the fact that it has not been reported elsewhere. The question being; has it gone for scrap or to another museum?

Nothing as of yet, they've got until the end of June. The 'cut up' comment was a prediction.

FYI, if still current info.
Last date to see and hear Doncaster's Vulcan bomber before dismantling will be 2023, say bosses | Doncaster Free Press

Update from Nick Fletcher following a meeting with DMBC this morning. To summarise, Robert Hough from Peel is on holiday so couldn’t attend. Ros Jones ominously absent and the meeting was held on Zoom and sounds like it was a PowerPoint presentation delivered by DMBC appointed lawyers. Nick hasn’t mentioned specifics but is ‘more optimistic’ than he was before about saving the airport. Strange that Ros Jones didn’t bother to attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, Humberside Airport fire service have been down to DSA to eye up various bits of equipment including the fire trucks themselves. LBA appear to have bought some equipment as have another airport that were wanting to buy some runway clearing equipment.

As was the 'trucked off site', presumably?

as in yes it’s still there. The plan is to cut it up and truck off site.

I thought I was clear at least!

Is there any experience of dismantling and then reassembling a Vuilcan? Has it ever been done?

In reverse:

Yes

Sort of. It was done by the RAF years back when they moved the vulcan to Hendon. That skillset is likely long gone. The airframe can be broken into significant size sections and transported, however with todays street furniture etc, even if the sectioning can be done, road closures and clearance and replacement of the furniture would be a massive cost. Assuming that can be covered, the airframe at its new location wouldn’t be a runner, apart from relatively few ‘simple’ systems that could practically be reconnected.

So is it possible, yes, likely, no.

I noticed that someone has now painted white "disused" crosses at every few hundred metres of the runway. Until recently there was only a cross at each end.
The NDB "FNY" has also been switched off (shame because it was a useful thing en route, as was their METAR).
Skydemon is no longer showing the airspace on their charts - it had been "retained" but NOTAMed as closed until 17 Feb until the last chart update. Have they been told something?

pug 3rd Feb 2023 11:50

Ros Jones has stated an intention to pursue a suspension of the airspace closure at DSA for 12 months to allow for plans for the future of the site to be considered. Not sure how this would work or whether there is scope within the CAA remit to do this. Obviously it can’t remain as controlled airspace as it is currently not controlled, could they ring fence it pending further action?

Oliver Coppard intends to hold some form of review process should anything like this happen in future. This will not affect DSA, but is based on DSA being closed by a private sector company when it has received significant public funding. I would argue that due diligence should have been applied by the authorities granting the funding rather than the operator taking it.

Nav aids apparently now being sold off, no specifics available though. The line about talks still ongoing with interested consortium still being used, not sure how long reliable that will be now we’ve passed the three month mark. Appreciate the complex nature of this but surely would have heard something official by now?

compton3bravo 3rd Feb 2023 16:03

I haven't really commented about the closure but I'm getting cheesed off with the Doncaster mayor thinking he can get the airport open again. It isn't going to happen, not enough passengers used it, it was never going to succeed, get over it. His valuable time should be spent on looking after the local community instead of wasting time and money thinking he can reactivate it.

pug 3rd Feb 2023 17:02

Apparently the land owners Peel lease from for the approach lights and nav aids have been notified via solicitors that the equipment will be removed. I expect this has all been sold already. This is part of Nick Fletcher update, along with the usual gaslighting and finger pointing.

dsamole 3rd Feb 2023 19:31

The deal is off.

PEEL have made it substantially hard for any potential buyer to keep interested .

Game over.

Asturias56 4th Feb 2023 08:17

"PEEL have made it substantially hard for any potential buyer to keep interested ."

I guess they would only lease/rent the land and not gift it to someone who would eventually do what they are going to do - turn it into something useful that actually makes money

TimmyW 4th Feb 2023 14:36

Leaves the CPO as the only option, as it seems the offer of the leasehold wont be progressing either.

I've said before, but there is no way a CPO will be succesfull, so it really is game over.
