My money would be on Elvington Air Museum, by road. I wouldn't like to guess how much it would cost to get her airworthy, find someone to sign off on it and find someone to fly it!

There was a post on the Elvington FB page that said they weren't interested.

They already have a Victor. Think one V Bomber is enough.

Perhaps Peel have extended in a hearts and minds campaign as David Johnson suggests above. But it does offer a glimmer of hope that things may be progressing.

'No tangible proposals' to date.

Thanks for highlighting that SWBKCB, I'm not on FB.

I would not rely on much in our local paper, but to be honest that sums up where I suspect we are.

Lots of theory and ideas, but no politician ready to put their money where their mouth is.

“Lots of theory and ideas, but no politician ready to put their money where their mouth is”

Shouldn’t that read “our money where their mouth is”? Which makes a pleasant change.

The relevant part of the article is a straight quote from a Peel statement

"We can therefore confirm that despite the lack of any tangible proposals from public or private sector partners, we have agreed an extension to the consultation to 16 September to allow more time for key stakeholders to conclude their discussions. As is appropriate, our employees were notified of this decision in advance of this public statement. No further statements will be made until the findings of the Strategic Review are announced.”

The only way the airport stays open is of there is a buy out. And I don't see anyone in the private sector getting involved, and the public sector certainly won't have pockets deep enough

I’m not sure about deep enough, but certainly I suspect not brave enough.

SWBKCB 27th Aug 2022 20:44

Brave? It's taxpayers money your talking about. So what's the business case?

Buster the Bear 27th Aug 2022 21:25

With jet fuel around 75% more expensive than a year ago, every sector in the aviation world will come under financial pressure over the next 12 months.

Are TUI flights to/from DSA definitely safe to book, provided travel finishes no later than Saturday 29 October ? Or are Peel/TUI thinking about cutting flights and generally winding some things down beforehand ?
I'm tempted to make one last trip out of DSA while I can... and don't really want to get an email from TUI saying that my flight has been moved to EMA or MAN

Yes.

If a flight doesn’t happen you get a refund.

Simples.

The potential closing of Doncaster Airport is possibly the best thing that has happened to it. It's never had more publicity and if they can save it, that can only be a good thing.

Funding has been raised from public donations for a banner flight around South Yorkshire on the 11th of September.

Times are as follows, subject to ATC
12:00 Doncaster Airport
12:15 Doncaster
12:30 Rotherham
12:40 Sheffield
12:55 Retford

Effective from when? Immediately?

DSAMole, you need to be very careful what you post. I suggest you stop quoting staff names, spouting inaccurate information and stop speaking out on things you might / think you know a bit about.........

Couple left.. one on the 10th.

MP Nick Fletcher has posted that there is interest in the airport however it is all commercially sensitive. Whatever this means who knows.

But you have to wonder with the post regarding Magma, and the rumours that TUI have formally told Peel they will be leaving in October, what will there be to save if someone is interested in purchasing or investing.
