Are TUI operating an airport anywhere else in their portfolio?
From what’s been said the magical passenger number for airport profitability is 4million pax, other airports achieving that currently have around 15 based airframes, operating first and second waves am/pm - would it be reasonable to expect this from one operator? shifting over the pennies isn’t that far fetched, effectively what Jet2 did out of LBA in reverse, but maintaining a firm presence at LBA in the process, are TUI brave enough to take on Yorkshires airline properly in their own back yard? No point going over very old ground, but for DSA to work at the very least LBA must close. In the most optimistic scenario could the owners of LBA not see that their airport is full to the brim, in dire need of significant expansion and would probably be more valuable as a housing estate? Sell up and buy in to DSA and shift as much of the business as they possibly can over to Doncaster? Bit close to EMA still, and a bit too far from West Yorkshire.. If only DSA was 25 miles to the West. Very sad to see it go this way, but some great people have been shown the door in recent months. When the passengers don’t book in sufficient numbers, it’s hard to reach that critical mass Peel have been talking about. Was built with large volumes in mind. |

We must be one of the worst airports for lack of information as to who flies where and when. We have had Ryan Air, Easy Jet, TUI ,Wizz and Cessna maintenance, all been and gone. We have cargo flights , a ground school for both fixed wing and helicopters. You drive past on the motorway and there is no mention of us having this brand new facility (still work in progress) I have never been on a flight from here that has not been nearly full. Virgin at the beginning wanted it as their main base with dedicated trains but were supposedly turned down, a railway station at the airport (2hrs from London). When the weather is bad at LBA planes are diverted to Manchester, we close even though the runway is open . There are a lot of unanswered questions as to why what should not be a very successful airport that should close because Wizz has moved three planes, but Jordan Air PIA has just started 2 flights a week. My experience has taught me that where one treads others will follow., if PIA flies in who may follow. I think Peel will have a lot to answer for. I live in Doncaster and we don't want any more warehouses or prisons we want to keep our award winning airport.

Contrary to some beliefs, auditors and administrators (and the taxman) are not fools, and if they identify something in the accounts that is hiding things, and against either the law or standard principles, they just won't allow it.

id like to see someone else have a stab at running the airport element. It would make a great Northern base for Tui, if they focused on it, ran it, and shifted lots of flights from hell hole Manchester |

Manchester is not a hell hole flights are running much better than they were, the problem is DSA is a hell hole to get too and 90% would not transfer from other areas
as it is so bad a journey and they would have to spend millions on making it fit for a few of TUI flights |
2Manchester is not a hell hole "
Check the MAN thread- it was bad even before Covid - especially security lines |

DSA is within 1 hour of the larger population of Yorkshire (less can be said of Yorkshires other airport) The interesting statistic would be how many Yorkshire people have to travel to MAN because convenient flights are not available from either Yorkshire airport. Looking at Only European cities LIS, MAD, ATH the list is endless not available from one Yorkshire airport and I for one end up driving from Yorkshire to MAN to take these flights. |

From an employee of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, that was an interesting read.

Ah… you are obviously living West of the Pennines.

West Yorkshire population also has the highest propensity to fly, along with North Yorkshire (the more densely populated parts of which are not too far from LBA).

Point is, for whatever reason, LBA seems to be able to attract and retain routes and DSA hasn’t. I don’t believe there has been some underhand conspiracy from Peel, I think it’s just because they haven’t been supported well enough when they were offered. |
I always felt it could possibly have had more luck, brand recognition etc. if it had just been called ‘Sheffield Airport’.
