Did they ever recover their trapped aircraft from Ukraine?

HA-LWY, HA-LPJ, HA-LPM and HA-LWS all have their last movement on FR24 as being late in the evening of 23 Feb, landing in Kyiv or Lviv.
Strongly suggests they are still in Kyiv or Lviv |

Wizz Tenerife is cancelled today. This shortage of air traffic controllers is horrible, really. Dear Supply Chain, behave, behave!

None available for sale tomorrow. Another to add to the list of airlines who've tried to base and for whatever reason have failed. |
Airport MD has quit
Director of aviation development also quit. No social media updates for over a week when they usually post every day (or every couple of days). Doesn't look good at all. |

I doubt they’re overly concerned. Wizz is still showing 30 departures a week for winter 2022 from DSA and there seems to be a good operation with Tui (4 based this summer?) and a growing cargo and FBO operation.
I don’t think either side has covered itself in glory over the WZZ U.K. announcement but perhaps that’s a sign they had hoped to work something out. |
The Tory MP for Doncaster is still lobbying for a rail link to the airport. He must be on drugs and ignorant to the fact the airport has just lost one of it's based airlines. He seems to think a rail link will bring in Ryanair and Easyjet It's laughable and embarrassing.

I'm glad I don't live Timmy's life.
DSA has lost one based plane. It's not perfect, but not a disaster. |

DSA has lost one based plane. It's not perfect, but not a disaster. It has lost one based plane, a second planned based plane, 13 routes and dozens of rotations per week. Adding to this, it has lost the MD, aviation development director, (amongst others) and the marketing department (judging by the lack of social media activity the last couple of weeks). Plus the unfortunate job losses that go with Wizz closing the base. Added to this, other than Wizz, no other operator was going to come in and offer an alternative to TUI. So what now? |
A rail link is not such a daft idea if it's part of a regional transport strategy. Back in the 80s we used to throw up the Air Show Halt in no time for a one day event. So a station would not be a major problem. The issue at the moment is the lack of trains going past to the East. But if they could run a tram train back and forth every 20 minutes it would give an eco link to the ECML and trains to a lot of South and West York's. Obviously, there is not enough demand at the moment provided by air passengers, but combine it with a Park and Ride into Donny, it would be in place when future growth occurs. There's lots of spare space around for the car park.

There is a dirty rumour that a scheduled middle east carrier (not a huge one), has been asked to find another home for July by Manchester airport and will be using DSA from Tuesday.
Only a temporary thing, but an opportunity for DSA to shine, and given the situation at Manchester who knows, perhaps it will set minds thinking. |
