The airlines and travel industry are moaning about the UK quarantine, as it will cost them more money, yet it is their industry that spread the virus to the 4 corners of the world.
They come across as not caring particularly as the Wizzair boss has admitted his passengers are traveling to second homes and to stay with friends and family |

So we should just do nothing then so the handful of passengers who want to fly can fly while the rest won’t fly or can’t fly due to other countries restrictions.
Helpful comment. |
with very little scientific basis |

This measure is so effective that it doesn't apply to (a) the Republic of Ireland or (b) before the end of the calendar month. The UK government is doing such a great job that the country isn't being seen as a pariah state right now by those across Europe due to our "lockdown".

All well and good to ease lockdown and protect the vulnerable BUT untll the UK gets the testing to the higher levels? Nothing.
1) I am a key worker but because I have no symptoms, I cannot get a test to see if I am an asymptomatic carrier. 2) My partner is a key worker in the NHS but, likewise. 3) My partners daughter (aged 30) is a key worker and had the virus badly but just scraped through not having to go to hospital - so she was not tested. Doctors allowed her to return to work. Her mother nursed her at home (we do not live together) and isolated from work but also allowed to return to work. So that's three of us with no tests and all at work. Not clever. Not even tried to be tested. As for vaccine, come and see me on its 5th anniversary and will think about getting it. I have zero intention of being big Pharma's guinea pig. |

They come across as not caring particularly as the Wizzair boss has admitted his passengers are traveling to second homes and to stay with friends and family They have fully supported and actioned a very precise plan that ha saved thousands. After all if they had not had a great plan we would be looking at minimum 200,000 people infected after being tested to confirm it and 20,000 dead. They have provided all the equipment that is needed each and every time. Thank God we have such a good Govt that thinks of the people. After all it is not like they are telling grand parents that they cannot hug their grandkids who live streets away due to social distancing and house arrest. The lets all isolate everybody for 14 days is among the most stupid things I have heard, the virus in its current form is on a downward spiral, yet lets put a bolt on the open field. The time for action was 3 months ago, instead a lying and incompetent govt did nothing, blamed everybody else and claimed they had it in hand. NHS hadn't enough equipment is down to the NHS and it's expensive supply chain. |

I also don’t understand the logic with asking people with no symptoms to self isolate for 14 days, when you only have to isolate for 7 days if you’ve had symptoms?
|
14 days allows for an incubation period - ie the period between picking up the virus from somebody else, and becoming ill. If you show symptoms, then incubation has already happened

The said expert provided false forecasts the whole way through this. |
You can blame the press and social media for this - every time someone pops a picture on F@cebook of a Qatar or PIA flight inbound to MAN there’s a barrage of comments demanding to know why everyone on it isn’t being quarantined despite in most cases the country the flight originated in having a much smaller outbreak. The press has been egging them on, and the government takes more notice of the press than hammering the point that the risk from these inbounds is pretty small in the context of the UK’s current state.

Actually it's now getting really bad in Qatar. But transit pax aren't allowed to leave the airport.

Based on some of the actions of the experts we would probably have as much chance.... well we would screw it up massively but who would know the difference from now ? |
I could understand it if it was going to be country specific, applicable to countries or regions where the virus is still rife at the time and updated on a weekly basis. But does somebody coming back from Barbados or the Seychelles really need to go into quarantine?
If the government is going to go through with this it needs to provide financial support (grants, not loans) to the airlines and airports that are going to be affected. This isn’t just a supply and demand trough that will ween out the weakest players, it’s a government order preventing these businesses from operating whilst still incurring costs. The industry will collapse. |
Sooner terminals get the temperature sensors fitted, then this could/may be relaxed a bit?
