Having said that, I don’t see all the current routes working, DUB should definitely stay, but if expansion does happen, some Sun routes would work well, West Cumbrians currently use GLA, NCL and MAN all a bit frustrating when you could fly from your local airport. |
some Sun routes would work well They really need to consolidate the exisiting routes first. Good to see a LM bringing a Saab down from GLA last week to pick up the DUB for a tech Nyxair machine. That's the sort of commitment these niche operations need. |
All Carlisle routes operate with Government subsidies. Without them the routes would not have got off the ground. Are the subsidies for a fixed time or permanent?

It’s not wanting “ the venture” to fail.
Carlisle is and always will be an excellent GA airfield,perfectly situated in a big void on the NW coast of England As a scheduled airport though it will always struggle with 5ish “major” airports within 2 hours drive. The airport doesn’t warrant more investment,especially when road and rail provide so much local connectivity and yet both are in so much more need of massive investment? Is a weekly flight to Palma or Alicante so important in this day and age..I think not. Is a flight to Southend carrying 150 departing passengers in a month a wise use of funds? I think not. The world is changing and goodness knows where aviation alone will be after this latest horrible virus! |

I emailed the CAA asking why CAX are not reporting monthly numbers like all other UK airports.
Response: "We are in communication with Carlisle whom are putting the necessary processes in place to report details of individual Air Transport Movements. We are hopeful that they will soon be in the position to report the required detail." |

surely it can't be that hard to count the number of movements... there's only about 6 a day!

No idea, but I'm not a professional airport operator. Even if they weren't aware of the CAA requirements (?), surely they are collected for their own internal business reporting?

I'm sure they do collect them for their business purposes. The format needed by the regulator involves is a very particular set and format of data collection and reporting to an airport's own requirements, and is through a third party to do it on the regulator's behalf.
