Just had a couple of flights of their Dash 8's recently and reasonably impressed, descent service and nice aircraft, anyone know whats their current longest sector using the Dash 8??

SOU/AGP or SOU/ALC?

Wycombe 25th Nov 2016 13:30

Probably SOU-ALC (usually completed in around 2hr 30-45min) but no doubt somebody else will be along to tell me there is a longer one (SOU-AGP has not been done on the Dash as far as I know)

I've done 6 Flybe flights in the last year, no complaints!

rob39 25th Nov 2016 16:08

Wow 2 1/2hrs on a dash 8. Makes you wonder how they make it pay. E190 few it today

MARKEYD 25th Nov 2016 16:15

Jersey to Malaga has been done on the Dash 8 several times in October for a local travel company in Jersey

NewquayJacob 25th Nov 2016 16:46

SOU-AGP was operated by a Dash very recently (in the last couple weeks).

Dash 8 routes

Dash 8 flew the SOU - PMI route in the summer, and a few years ago I flew SOU - Bergamo on one. Very pleasant experience.

Surely they make it pay because if the demand is not quite enough to fill an Embraer, it's a lot cheaper to operate a Dash ;-)

Even on sectors of these lengths, its probably only about 20-30 mins behind the pure jet.

I still say flybe out of Heathrow is coming

Would be very good indeed but can't see it without a third rwy.

Which destinations do you envisage?

Think NHT would be more likely at this time if BE is ever to serve the wealthy Thames Valley catchment area to the west of London. However, for now, the shortsighted authorities have said no.

canberra97 27th Nov 2016 17:42

And more to the point what aircraft would Flybe use out LHR, I can't see them using the Dash 8 or 170s and 195s are in short supply and the costs involved with operating smaller aircraft into a full up LHR I just can't see it happening even with a third runway.

I'm with GASA.

Would love to see the Dash 8 at EGLL.

It has happened before. Flybe operated Q400s into LHR a few times as part of the Brussels Airlines contract.

SealinkBF 29th Nov 2016 19:23

How could they afford the slots?

nguba 29th Nov 2016 20:24

Flybe could bid for the bmi remedy slots and launch routes from LHR that were covered by the competition remedies (ABZ, EDI, MAN, NCE).

Though, why they'd want to do that after Virgin Little Red failed is anyone's guess, especially given the costs of using smaller aircraft at LHR

MAN was not part of the remedy slots.

Don't forget the £10 per pax discount on fees for domestic passengers from Heathrow being introduced from January 1st. That should change the cost dynamic significantly.

With an ever expanding portfolio of codeshare partners, Flybe could perhaps offer some useful domestic feed through Heathrow.

davidjohnson6 29th Nov 2016 20:44

Why on earth would Flybe want to offer domestic feed to long haul carriers at Heathrow ? This is the kind of thing that killed off BMI when it was part of Star Alliance

TartinTon 29th Nov 2016 20:45

Depends how you structure the agreement...the old BMI guys weren't the sharpest knives in the drawer....
