Scoot looking at adding a SIN-India-MAN route as well as a few other routes in Europe. Made a point of saying 'Manchester, not London'. This would be in addition to the SIN-MAN-IAH flight as its about promoting India-Europe traffic.

They also want to add a similar route to Zurich, which is an SQ A380 destination so you know they are not going to pull the routes in favour of 1 stop via India.

Quite. Perhaps more lucrative for the airport than being able to accept a few diversions on the odd occasion.
Business is business I guess. I'll reserve my 'spotter diversion' rant for elsewhere.

If true, will be ironic if MAN turn away BA diverts when the snow arrives (Daily Mail 'New Ice Age' type headlines this am)

LHR are short of parking space. Could this just be short term winter storage.

Just my opinion but I think a lot of the taxiways need a lot of work on them. Park them up on the WIP then jiggle them when they need to. Bit like in the 70/80s when on we'd have parked up diversions for a few days. It's winter, keep one taxiway open from the 05 end.
Like I said just my opinion but it could be a money maker.

The BA B789s now have departure times on the 26th. Short term parking? Announcement? BA Snr Mgt Christmas meal cheaper in Manc? Total windup?

Flybe plane returns to Manchester after being struck by lightning during 'thundersnow' storm - Manchester Evening News

All ended safely but what a plank

Sadly a member of modern day society who cannot, or will not, get their heads round the concept that `sh$t happens` :ugh:

TURIN 18th Nov 2016 13:08

What makes no sense is why MAN ? MAN struggles to park its own a/c and there are airfields all across the country with much more space.
But not with the necessary in house personnel to look after them, however MAN has them, in spades. ;)

Contrary to Skippy's post...

Since BA fled the regions,.....blah blah blah personal opinion blah blah blah.... They have sacked all of their ground handling staff outside LHR,
Not quite all. :ok::ok:

Porky Speedpig 18th Nov 2016 13:16

BA 789s almost certainly Thanksgiving short term parking. All transatlantic carriers greatly reduce services for a few days up to and on Thanksgiving leading to significant parking problems

Curious Pax 18th Nov 2016 13:58

I think Porky may have got it - using Thursday last week as a guide, 5 789s depart to US destinations on a Thursday. A quick look at the on line BA timetable shows that next week 4 are cancelled on both 24th and 25th, and one on the 24th only. 24th is Thanksgiving.

roverman 18th Nov 2016 17:43

BA 789s

We can all relax, There is no danger of BA moving in to upset the good work being done by Virgin/Delta and Thomas Cook at MAN. The 789s are indeed short term parking overspill at BA's request.

Do we know what time they are due in on the 24th and out on the 26th please?

azz767 21st Nov 2016 11:31

AA's PHL today has a huge delay. Noticed its an A333 today rather than the usual 200. Problems with the aircraft due to operate the flight? AA keeping up their consistent reliability record anyway

Ringwayman 21st Nov 2016 11:45

Was an A332 but it diverted into Charlotte with pax transferred to spare A333.

Charlotte? Not exactly en-route from PHL to MAN??

Curious Pax 21st Nov 2016 15:43

Surprising, but if you replay FR24 it got as far as off the coast of Maine near Portland, then turned round and went to Charlotte, overflying Philadelphia en route. Presumably Charlotte had a spare 330 (and crew) available there and Philly didn't. Sounds like out of the box thinking that got them to MAN in the end - I suspect a lot of carriers would have returned to PHL, cancelled the flight and most people would have been home a day late rather than 7 hours. They were only on the ground in Charlotte a couple of hours, which isn't bad considering they had to transfer pax and bags.

Thanks. I missed that part. Any idea about the departure times?
