Flybe

Website showing CWL to Chambery, Lyon, Grenoble and Geneva from 21/12. Quite late if these going on sale mid Oct - not sure all these will work.......all mainly once a week (except one, which is twice) on Saturday/Sunday.

planenut321 10th Oct 2013 09:33

Hopefully they will link up with a ski operator to maximise sales. But good news none the less.

Also the prices don't seem too bad.

Letsflycwl 10th Oct 2013 11:31

Great news from Flybe......CMF, GVA, GNB & LYS....let's hope Flybe add some new summer routes too....any idea on what aircraft will be used ???

Let's hope for new French routes for Summer 2014

davidjohnson6 10th Oct 2013 11:48

Looks to be a mix of Cardiff based and W routes from the schedules.

Agree with TOM100 - it's now mid October and ski season gets going in little over 2 months. There's enough time to sell *some* tickets but it still feels rather late to be announcing ski routes when other airlines are announcing new routes for summer 2014. I suspect that plenty of potential customers for these ski routes from Cardiff will have already booked alternate flights.

ATNotts 10th Oct 2013 11:59

I wouldn't necessarily agree regarding the timing of the launch.

I would reckon that quite a lot of potential users of these routes will be looking a snow conditions much closer to their intended departure dates, and be travelling as independents, rather than as IT PAX and booking months in advance.

I would say a slow start to the season weather-wise will be a greater threat than a lack of IT PAX.

mathers_wales_uk 10th Oct 2013 15:00

Four new air routes announced from Cardiff Airport to Alps ski destination - News article plus added times.

All flights will be operated by the Bombardier Dash8-Q400 in exception to the Geneva which will be on the Embraer 175.

All flights will also be operated on a W pattern however the Chambery flights are showing as the flights originating from Cardiff. Unless there will be positioning flights to operate these then we should expect an alteration to one of the usual older destination schedules to fit these flights in between.

MORE GOOD NEWS GUYS !
CWL-DUS is now bookable on the GermanWings website through the timetable section only currently, and the destination 'CWL' has to be physically typed in rather than selected. Available to book weekly between 05/04/2014 and 25/10/2014.
DUS - CWL - (4U9348) DEP07:00 / ARR07:35 (Saturday) 90 Seat Aircraft
CWL - DUS - (4U9349) DEP08:10 / ARR10:45 (Saturday) 90 Seat Aircraft

AirGuru - is this not just a repeat of summer 2013's seasonal Lufthansa flight but rebadged as Germanwings to move it away from full service and more towards an LCC ?

AirGuru 10th Oct 2013 18:10

Yes as i posted in the LH thread yesterday, the flights have been transferred over to GermanWings, but still using Eurowings aircraft. It operates for an extra two months in all, starting a month earlier in April, and ending a month later at the end of October.

BEE

Hopefully Flybe have already been doing work in the background and have some tour operator commitment for their new services in addition to the future independent travellers.........I hope it works. Even 2 out of 4 working would be good (4 obviously better !)

davidjohnson6 10th Oct 2013 18:38

Didn't know about the extra 2 months from Dusseldorf. While a 1x weekly 90-seater summer seasonal is never going to have a huge impact, it still means an increase in inbound tourists, benefitting the Welsh economy.

AirGuru 10th Oct 2013 19:14

TOM100

Im sure that Flybe have been working in order to get some tour operator on board as this is probably one of the largest revenue streams. Also, with most of the flights being one weekly, it means there is not really a large capacity to fill, and with some of the fares i have seen we may well see some passengers from the whole of the South-West of the country and perhaps even some from the core catchment of BHX is the price is good enough !

Davidjohnson6

Totally agree, and a lot of the Prima Reisen inbound tourists flew VIE-DUS-CWL as part of their package, so maybe the same will continue next year.

Letsflycwl 11th Oct 2013 15:29

Let's hope Flybe introduce new routes for the summer too......seems to looking likely if they are working with CWL.....EGC, BOD, GVA for Summer be good 👍👍

AirGuru 11th Oct 2013 15:43

GVA year-round is probably something to look at if this service gets a good reception with passengers. Once weekly this winter shouldnt be too difficult to attract passengers, considering it is 4x daily on some days at BRS with a larger EZY aircraft ! BUt fingers crossed all these new services, and the existing ones work well. Could well see more Flybe expansion at CWL next Summer.

AirGuru 11th Oct 2013 15:55

According to SWAG, Aer Lingus Regional (EI-CBK) tyre burst on landing at CWL this afternoon, causing diversions to BRS, and a few aircraft left on the ground at CWL due to a blocked runway. This afternoon's 14:50 Vueling flight to Barcelona has still yet to depart because of this, and numerous other flights are also heavily delayed.

Cloud1 11th Oct 2013 18:06

All flights are Q400 apart from the LYS (not GVA) as it operates a W pattern from Birmingham. This will be an E175

Last few days of 757 Ops for TOM at Cardiff. Just the 737 from now on.

Saaad day. :(

mathers_wales_uk 31st Oct 2013 19:06

Today’s announcement that the Celtic Manor,Newport will host the 2014 Nato summit could be a huge boost to Cardiff Airportas there is a potential for some significant aircraft movements during thisevent.

First Nato summit in UK since 1990 to be at Celtic Manor, Newport - Article

davidjohnson6 31st Oct 2013 20:15

Could also argue that it will be highly disruptive to normal operations - whenever major world leaders turn up, there's some kind of security lockdown

mathers_wales_uk 1st Nov 2013 17:50

Good news for passengers as Cardiff Airport introduces free Wi-Fi and trolleys.
