UPS@EMA 8th Nov 2007 07:30

Just taken from the ICC TRANSPORT, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND PASSENGER SERVICES meeting as follows:

'Discussions were taking place with KLM in order to promote business'

Are we expecting an announcement anytime soon?

Regards

Stu

Stu,

I would have thought the comment regarding KLM would have been a little more positive if any announcement were imminent. However at least it suggests the airport is actively looking to have KLM's AMS service re-instated.

Any comments on Sterling's ontime performance at EMA. Am trying their EMC CPH route for the first tie in a couple of weeks. Quite a bit of bad feedback from a number of pax regarding incredibly tight seat pitch - 28inches!

timmyp 8th Nov 2007 13:46

Has the Sterling flights had a decent number of pax on them? I'd be certainly interested to in the reviews they've been getting.

Considering them for a break to Copenhagen, and it would certainly save a journey down to STN to fly with Easyjet.

Flyboy543 8th Nov 2007 13:51

Most of the loads have been fairly resonable, lowest i've seen is 30 highest is 140 typical somewhere between 60-100. OTP has been pretty good, the CPH today was just under 2 hours late inbound but apart from that their almost all on time. Crew seem quite friendly aswell.

I'm doing EMA CPH EMA next weekend - I'll make a few notes for you Flyboy543 :ok:

What time does it depart if its arrival is 00:05 - can't see anything on the departure board, or is it leaving from a different airport?

Interesting to hear that KLM are being spoken to by the airport, certainly the airport is in need of a full service airline to operate into a hub. I know bmi regional has looked into flights to Germany before, but has been prevented by slot availability and I believe a clause in bmi's ECA with Lufthansa and SAS.

toledoashley 18th Nov 2007 08:11

What about a LH regional service to MUC/FRA?

dumdumbrain 18th Nov 2007 12:43

Im not sure about the German national carrier coming to EMA anytime soon. However EMA really does need to build its cheap routes to Gemany, not only is it a nice country to visit. But Germany is the UKs biggest trading partner in the EU.

No it doesn't - it needs a full-service operation to somewhere like Germany, into a hub like FRA or MUC, not only to get people to somewhere meaningful in these countries (as opposed to waste-lands up to 100km from any sensible business centre), but also to somewhere people can connect easily onto long haul services. Anything else just continues to send pax down the road to BHX to use airlines like LH, KL, AF for long haul connections.

Flights to these so called waste land airports, is the main driving force of EMAs growth so I wouldn't be calling them too fast. Doesn't LH already have flight to BHX? So why would it set up operations at EMA. You would be shocked to see how many business pax I see on my flights. And if you want long hual flights, what wrong with a drive to MAN or LHR/LGW
