o lets hope so! BHD-MAN! flybe are a joke! your lucky if your flight goes on time! and their fares are nothing like Ryanair as far as i'm concerned bring as many Ryanair flights to BHD as you want! they are fab:):) nearly always on time, sooooooo cheap and BHD is dead handy!!!!! unlike the international which i've to fly from today:bored:!!!!

MUFC_fan 26th Dec 2007 10:06

The problem with FR going onto BHD-MAN is that they will be up against 7 times daily flights on business perfect times. Yes, EZY operate 7 a day from LPL (to be reduced to 6 next summer) but that is to International and are not 100% aimed at business which you can argue BE are.

It woule be a hard task but Northern Ireland is going to be a MAJOR fighting ground next summer if we see both FR and EZY into Belfast aswell:

MAN-BHD (BE&FR)
MAN-BFS (WW&U2)
LON-BFS (EZY&EI)
LON-BHD (BMI&FR&AF&BE)!

I think the only companies that won't be bothered who are flying to BFS/BHD will be LS and BE(on smaller routes i.e]DCA&EXT etc.)

gate 22 27th Dec 2007 11:57

but that is to International and are not 100% aimed at business which you can argue BE are.

Lets think about this 'BHD is the preference for business while BFS is billed as leisure'. Around 65% of the population of NI live handier to BFS than BHD. Most folk who live west Belfast, north Belfast probably find BFS handier to depart from in the morning avoiding rush hour via crumlin Road nutts corner, open road little traffic, M2 northbound empty of traffic. Opposite coming home in the evening. All EZY's domestic services are very much aimed at business and have been taken up by business very much so. The only problem with BFS is that it lost all its LHR services. Which lets face it is very much used by the business community. However in January things are going to change!!!!

Ryanair to BHD

I have to agree with your comment BELFASTMARK, Ryanair are just that- FAB. Ryanair are excellent, I have used the BHD STN route 3 times since Ryanair came onto the route and on each occassion I flew on time, actually arrived very early. The crew were great, the plane was almost brand new, the whole experience was A1.

While waiting in the line to go through passport control I got into a conversation with a few passengers & they all said that FR are great, so good value and so punctual. One man said Ryanair is a very good airline, the price is good and the plane is lovely, I agreed.

Flybe are going to get a great run for their money and I can see Ryanair take them on, on many BHD routes. Flybe's efforts to curb Ryanair's activity at BHD and keep the existing runway length is a big stick, and MOL will literally go after the BE markets to teach them, as we know he often sets out to hurt competitors. In my opinion, I think BE are good at bullying small airlines in small markets eg IOM, SOU and same tactics with EXT airport, but they are no match for FR. When FR go onto MAN BHD , which i expect they will, BE will be wounded very badly, and if we take an example of DUB ORK we see that when MOL gets passionate about something, ie seeing his competitors off he will go to great lengths. And as regards Aer Arann, Ryanair has launched on similar markets to hurt Aer Arann, Be is in for the same fate.

Lets hope!! In the mean time, everyone should enjoy the prices, I did BHD STN BHD for 2p in November!

I did BHD STN BHD for 2p in November!

So you didn't pay any tax!!!, I have to say I have never come across these fares were one actually pays 2p (so FR most have paid the tax). Do these fares exist or is it like saying I got petrol today at only 10p per litre, well it actually cost me £1.10 but £1 was tax and that doesn't really count.

I got 2 quotes for fares BHD/STN flight out and back for £0.01 each way total cost = £10. I also got a quote for £0.01 one leg and £11.99 the other so by the same formula should equal £10 + £11.98 = £21.98 however it comes out at £43.19. (tax and charges similar to BE) are these extra charges to BHD.

I did Ryanair for 2p in NOvember

Gate 22,

I sent you a private message showing a copy of my ticket for 2p . In fact Ryanair did 3M seats at no cost except 1p/1c each way, I got tickets for those dates to STN and From Dub to TOrp, Beauvais ,and they then did another 1M seats at 1c each way all in so 6 of us did Dublin Cork for 12c all in for us all.

Details on request... I would expect to see more of this activity in the new year.

MUFC_fan 28th Dec 2007 14:51

I travelled with firends (5 of us) to Dublin in October for 2p return for the day. Was fantastic! Some early Xmas shopping - only one problem. Alcohol was extremely expensive in the airport on the return journey.

chec tunset 28th Dec 2007 15:06

EI will last in BFS, at least as long as us tax payers are subsidising it. I should imagine their route structure will look a bit different this time next year though. I would also predict changes to the EZY schedule on STN. LGW frequencies are increasing anyway so losing a STN or 2 would enable a BFS aircraft to do something more useful. The London market is rapidly becoming saturated. It will be interesting to see who is the first to drop BCN. EZY figures on it are surprisingly good so far but there is no market for 3 operators. 2008 will be a year of pain for airlines. it's strange that having left each other's patches alone for so long they are all now at each other's throats in the face of an economic slowdown.

Bearcat 28th Dec 2007 21:22

if the loads are still dire after 12 months , Aer Lingus are answerable to their share holders and will have to drop the base. Easyjet will fight them tooth and nail.

Shannon loads to LHR are packed and their pulling off the route.:ugh:

Booyaaka 29th Dec 2007 01:44

chec tunset

What makes you think that taxpayers are subsidising Aer Lingus at BFS?

The Air Route Development money that was used for New York and some easyJet European routes ran out a couple of years ago. Sure, BFS owners Abertis will have given Aer Lingus some inducements but it's their money, they can do what they like with it!

FR Belfast City Airport

Tonight Ryanair have an arrival at 2110 into BHD from Liverpool. The aircradt goes back out at 2125.

So that's a 15 minute turnaround.

Pushing it a bit to keep operations within the 2130 official airport closure time!!!!

BHDflyer 1st Jan 2008 22:29

It wouldn't matter to me if the turn around time was 3 hours, I just wish Ryanair had never landed in Belfast.

Flew with bmibaby for the first time to manchester on the weekend before christmas and was very impressed. Quick 45 minute flight, new looking Boeing 737, the only problem was they couldn't sell nuts on the way back coz some guy had an allergy but suppose that doesn't really matter.

EI-BUD 2nd Jan 2008 08:32

Tuesday Night at BHD

Ryanair's 2110 arrival from Liverpool landed at 2150 and took off about 2207 as it was showing at Liverpool as Landed at 2247.

I have heard of aircraft arriving after 2130 at Belfast City but have not heard of any taking off after 10!! I wonder will there be complaints from the locals. I dont think that Ryanair will care about Rules or restrictions and hence a late departure wont bother them!!

elle may clampit 2nd Jan 2008 08:56

I don't think the late departure will bother the airport either as the planning agreement has been disregarded for sometime now. The locals aren't even as vocal as they once were following the the dismissal of their case against the EIP. I think everyone is losing interest, now might be a good time to submit the application.

Jet2 Milan Bergamo

After the dropping of this service from BFS for summer 2008, it would appear now that, "The Travel Department", known for selling holidays through the Belfast Telegraph has chartered a Jet2 aircraft to operate Belfast - Bergamo from 18th May to 19th October, every Sunday.

Departs BFS 07.20 and stated departure from Bergamo 12.10 that afternoon.

Didn't think an operator such as this could fill a 737 every week for the summer season, only ever see their holidays in the newspaper. Just a shame Jet2 wouldn't operate it as a scheduled flight with allocation to the tour operator, so allowing for flight only passengers.

PS. Happy New year, hopefully an excellent year to come for Belfast aviation

johnrizzo2000 2nd Jan 2008 19:34

So the EI base is doomed? Ha! Its early days, so give it a chance. Also, SNN-LHR loads may be high, but yeilds are not. BFS-LHR is a route that makes money for BD and obviously EI think they can muscle in, and add in the BA connections at LHR, they think they can make more money than SNN-LHR

belfastmark 3rd Jan 2008 21:00

anyone know why the 21.15 from gatwick to bhd is diverting to glasgow! what a radom place to divert to!!!! something to do with the snow here???!!

cuthere 3rd Jan 2008 21:02

The 400 metres in heavy snow with sub-zero temperatures might have something to do with it. The last RYR into Derry ended up in Dublin too.

belfastmark 3rd Jan 2008 21:21

wooooo wer'd all that snow come from!!!! i can see now why they are being diverted! have to feel sorry for the people on the planes though!!
