Have a look at Aer Lingus for April to LHR.

Say go out on the 16 and back on the 17. Look at the times. To me, this says LHR Based A/C.

BFS - LHR Departure Times

0845
1255
1715
2130

LHR - BFS Departure Times

0650
1050
1510
1925

To me this says BFS crews nightstopping. Ironically it makes little commercial sense (although I know they have slot problems). If the timetable was the other way round it would be a winner. It makes the BA longhaul codeshare is a bit questionable too if the first BFS departure is at 0845. Ezy's new 0630 to LGW should prove a winner.. just a pity they don't codeshare (yet)

Its to do with the LHR slots. They're Shannon's old times. Belfast was originally meant to get Cork's LHR schedule which is roughly the opposite of the above one, and Cork was to get the one BFS will have. However there was uproar amongst the Cork business community and within a matter of days Aer Lingus backed down and Cork kept its good LHR timetable. Without changing the Dublin-LHR timetable, there isn't much EI can do about the BFS times.

Jet2 Bosses In Town

Today the Jet2 bosses; Philip Messon, Ian Doubtfire & some others where in town today talking with Airport Authority, must be some big news coming soon.

Did anyone hear the dear lady on Nolan this morning...very well informed! She was able to talk about lots of technical matters regarding angles of climb for fully loaded FR 738s departing BHD's newly extended runway for sunny climes, and of course the obligatory remarks about same aircraft crashing onto homes, schools, and assorted old people the whole way from Lisburn to the Newtownards Road...somehow the events at LHR yesterday have proven the point that modern jet aircraft are incredibly dangerous, and should not be approached at any cost. I have listened to her warnings, and henceforth refuse to shop at IKEA, use the Sydenham bypass, eat at the Ballyrobin, or travel along the M2...for fear of being decimated by those pesky jets as they plummet from the sky...

...of course, the same lady refuses to use short-haul flights as she is carbon-conscious...and probably also concerned about the fiscal health of her North Down abode given the impending doom about to be unleashed around her as these 'massive' aircraft implode on her lawn...I was sorely tempted to ring in and suggest that Emirates were about to start a Dubai service from the harbour with 773ERs...

I have no particular love for BHD (I find BFS a much handier proposition) but the nonsense that this particular airport has to suffer just gets worse and worse...:ugh:

She does get some credit however for her purely commercial points...that one airport would give us critical mass for attracting better services...

Well Nolan was the original shock jock after all, incidentally a colleague mentioned that he commutes weekly to Mnachester for his five live show so he's not really in a position to criticise expansion of N.I. Airports

I would not wish for that if I were you..just look at DUB down the roads..yes:good choice of routes, but look at the state of the infrastructure at the moment

Perhaps an assessment of their assets before going orange?:E

Husky One 19th Jan 2008 09:20

Not unless 'orange' are interested in setting up a Boeing museum.

Which airport authority were the Jet 2 bosses talking to? They did consider BHD in the past, but decided against it, are they reconsidering operations from City.

BELHold 21st Jan 2008 13:36

Doubt very much BHD would suit 757 Ops..anybody any details on the incident involving the LPL last night

bfsalphaone 21st Jan 2008 15:35

They had been talking to BFS, and anyway I couldn’t see Jet2 moving down the road.

BHD couldn’t take the B757 & the Channel Express mail operation to EMA, their quick change B737 has to be based at BFS.

But the word on the apron these days is Jet2.com is thinking of BFS-BOS. They have the B757 which is ETOPS approved, and all the flight deck crews are getting ETOPS training.

Going back to yesterday, I heard there was a full emergency involving an EZY approx 1500 (possibly the inbound from Berlin). Full emergency plan put in place, Fire and Ambulance Service all headed to Airport. All stood down shortly after 1515 following a safe landing.

Then today there was a B737 EZY on stand 24, with what looked like flap problems.

What is the building work going on at the city for?

Maude Charlee 21st Jan 2008 23:50

Building work, or demolition work? If you mean the dismantling of the old sheds between the long stay and Ikea, it is for the new staff car park. If you mean the stuff going on above the baggage hall, I believe that is where the new airline crew rooms will be relocated eventually after the business lounges are turned into shops.

nikitta_ni 22nd Jan 2008 07:56

I presume the current staff car park at BHD is in the short stay area? Or has it changed to the main stay quite recently?

elle may clampit 22nd Jan 2008 08:35

BHD are spending alot of money on terminal facilities and car parking infrastructure. They must be very confident that the growth in business will continue, has the runway extension plan been formalised through an application or is it still only being talked about. If the project is being dealt with by the strategic planning committee, do they still need to make an application as one would with an ordinary planning issue?

Tower Ranger 22nd Jan 2008 09:15

Well, they will need the extra car parking space soon as they are gonna build a Holiday Inn on half of the present short stay car park. Most staff have to park in the long term area with the exception of Atc, Ate, Afs,Asd,Airline enginneers and probably someone i`ve forgotten.
Other building works include ivory towers and little empires although this work has been ongoing for a long time with no end in site.

London Heathrow BD90 19:00 Flight Cancelled

Flight today at BHD cancelled
Unusual for bd to cancel flights is this still due to the crash last week, as there were bd flights to bhd cancelled on Sunday.

sealink 22nd Jan 2008 18:05

bhd building

staff parked in the short stay until just before xmas. moved into long stay. always really busy with few spaces. the building on top of the baggage sort is an extension to that area. the bmi business lounge will NOT be moving during any rebuild.its staying put with access to the air bridge. flybe will be relocated. costa will be moved away from the main check in hall to allow for better queuing at desks. half of the main boarding lounge will be changed into a large security area and passengers will then proceed up to the old bar and cafe area to wait for boarding. ( cafe and bar to be moved ) this area will be common user.the passengers will then make their way back down to board flights.

Buc Driver 22nd Jan 2008 18:31

I know its still early days, but does anyone know what sort of numbers EI are getting on the Heathrow route.

Shamrock350 22nd Jan 2008 18:36

Heard that it's not doing that badly, average of 100-120 passengers in the first week.
