Why are Virgin management above the law? They did the same thing, and once they realised they would be found out they just went and grassed on BA... They should get the same treatment.

Da Dog 8th Aug 2008 11:21

You all should know by now that most BA managers think they are above the law:yuk::yuk:

As a employee I say good:D:D:D

Golden Ticket 8th Aug 2008 11:32

Anyone who breaks the law should be charged. However, I think being the whistleblower shouldn't absolve you completely from punishment. Probably a lesser sentence. As immunity from prosecution seems to be based on the Virgin guys losing their bottle first.:E

Just shows you the sort of trash that tours the industry old boys net and the middle east in particular.
Dont Etihad do a reference check or is the funny handshake club enough.
Lets have a list of all the t0ssers in the midle east companies management that are failed in europe.

Hellenic aviator 8th Aug 2008 14:47

EXCELLENT !!!

I hope the b@stards get the MAXIMUM penalty deserved - afterall, they get their millions in bonuses. About time justice is served to those who think they are above the law.

I think it would be prudent to remember that they are innocent until proven guilty. Further to that they all deny the charges.

If guilty, then throw the book at them. I cannot agree more.

Bigscotdaddy 8th Aug 2008 14:58

So why isn't wee Willie Walsh on that list??
As CEO he surely doesn't claim that he had no idea what his Directors were up to?
The OFT can't be that naive!

icarus sun 8th Aug 2008 15:15

Why does it seem to be that BA is probably the most corrupt company in avation. From virgin dirty tricks, cargo price fixing, and now the fuel charge. This suggests something more than just one off happenings as it has taken place under many different chief executives. :\

rubik101 8th Aug 2008 15:26

It was all begun long before wee willie became boss man.
If the US get hold of them it will be 60 years each!

PJ2 8th Aug 2008 15:39

Interesting how the underlying "message" in all posts is "anger/vengeance" and it is targeted at senior executives.

Does anyone else here believe that the message is, "employees everywhere are fed up with executive largesse and "packages" for lousy work while employees themselves are forced to work for lower and lower wages and can expect to have their pension plans stolen? Can execs even spell the words, "accountability" and "business ethics"?

Well...take a look at the Phuket thread and decide for yourself.

There are plenty of "competitors" within this and other industries for the same title. Why should it be a surprise to see what the unbridled drive for profit-at-all-cost does to people? Greed is institutionalized as a way of life, shareholders are gods and employees are expensive liabilities. Is this the way business is supposed to work?

42psi 8th Aug 2008 15:41

Thought they'd (the company) already sorted the US end, by pleading guilty and donating funds to the US Treasury ?

Basil 8th Aug 2008 16:27

Whilst I must declare an interest, on the face of things, I cannot see why VS is granted immunity.
Could it have been a case of entrapment?

It apparently worked for Qantas, why not try it at BA?

BA profits down...anything to do with fuel surcharge fines ?

i was surprised to see BA's profits well down on last year...could this have anything to do with the fine imposed for fuel surcharge fixing in league with virgin ?? i am not an accountant, but millions in fines have to be accounted for.maybe the fuel increase is not the only reason for the slump in profit.as fuel prices continue to fall day to day,can we expect BA's profits to increase substantially in the next 6 months ?if that is the case, can anyone recommend investing in shares at todays bargain price ?

Avitor 8th Aug 2008 23:41

I would not risk my money on buying BA shares at this time. We have no-one at the tiller of our once proud country.

The airline industry have enemies called greens, tax collectors and currency rates of exchange.

House repossessions are escalating, they are/were potential travellers. Jobs are disappearing, and the Tories will have a mountain to climb in pulling the country together.

Long term prospects?.....Grim.

bermudatriangle 8th Aug 2008 23:57

sensible concerns......other than commodity shares,i just cannot decide where to invest.i still believe the surcharge fixing fine must have impacted substantially on the profits.any idea where we can see the accounts which are submitted.might make very interesting reading.

rothin 9th Aug 2008 06:45

Substantial profits

It seems to me that it's the pursuit of 'substantial' profits that is at the root of the problem. They'll either come from higher fares or lower costs. Either way a customer, employer or service provider will get screwed in order that the shareholders and directors get a better bonus.

Why can't we all share in an adequate profit?

If you read their financial results for last year (always a good idea if you planning to buy shares in a company) you'll see that the fine for anti-competitive behaviour was paid during that FY and they still managed to make nearly £900 million.
