I heard that SSH is going ahead according to one of the Jet2 cabin crew.

GW76 20th May 2007 22:04

Seems to be the new domain of LCC. FlyGlobespan to announce double drop service from GLA+EDI to SSH too for Winter 07.

Jet2 over "The Pond"

Well gang - to add a little fuel to the fire so to speak. Had a interesting chat with a guy from Jet2 Sunday evening.

It has been discussed already about Jet2 going to America - San Fransisco, Orlando and New York were mentioned this evening. There are 2 (out of 4) ex-China Airlines B752's under going ETOPS work at present, so I guess it will happen very soon. :D

And I think we already are aware the leased Flightline 146 is going. First port of call for this aircraft will be Southend for some work to be done, then it's off to Zurich.

"LO" with an APU problem caused a heavy delay to the afternoon Cork service, eventually left at 21.30hrs

"LA" will be back soon to join "LO" & "LX" on the 733 front.

I feel a bit lost as I am not too hot on airport codes, so where is SSH? :ugh:

The talk on the other thread is that GSM will do a SFB from th Winter, if thats the case LS need to act fast. NY a possibility, SFO - doubt it, especially not in a 757.

SWBKCB 21st May 2007 07:19

Would any SSH flights be charters or schedules - are there any licencing issues with SSH being outside the EU?

Can't see as to why a weeky SFB would have any effect on any other US destinations ex NCL. As for LS & NYC, suppose it makes some sense if they can with hindsight see that such services as GSM's LPL-NYC are paying their way. 'IF' LS were to fly UK - NYC, then for my money I'd put LBA-NYC as their launch route. Furthermore S08 is probably a realistic start. From NCL's point there probably is a market for a Loco op to NYC in the summer tourist season several times weekly, but who knows. I feel that a successful product must be regular, depenable (GSM take note) with excellent facilities for business and transit pax. Got to agree that anywhere other than East Coast in a 757 would be unpractical. My question for those in the know, these ETOPS equipped 75's what is the proposed seat config ?

BIG E 21st May 2007 08:49

Its not unrealistic to operate a 757 to SFB, although quite often it would require a fuel stop in Bangor or similar, 75's used to be regulars on this service, again it would be interesting to know what the config will be.

Jet2 & America

I thought after speaking to the chap from Jet2 that San Fransisco was a little ambitious, although he did state it was a strong possibility. The Bangor fuel stop - very often done in years gone by, but would it be cost effective for todays cost conscious airlines.

Nothing mentioned on seat configurations for the ETOP's 752's, although he even mooted the idea of a 762 in future.

There is no doubt Sharm "SSH" ;) is THE place for your airline to go. Watched the popularity increase hugely over recent years.

I think whatever Jet2, Globespan or even EasyJet are planning, it all bodes well for the future of Newcastle. :D

crewboi83 21st May 2007 10:42

Well techincally Jet2 could launch SSH as a charter destination as they have Jet2holidays.com, so maybe thats a way around and issuing regarding flying to Egypt.
Most of the 757s are undergoing ETOPS certification so im lead to belive, however we have heard strong rumours of EWR, SFB via BGR and YYZ, although we did here that JFK would be used as a mini hub to crew change and refuel on flgihts to SFO and SFB but its all galley FM at moment, I had heard other day that it could take up to a year to get all the planning together for ETOPS such as Engineering, flight crew training and I believe that the cabin crew will have to go back in the pool to train on life rafts as this wasnt done when they joined the company. The 767 has been going round for about 2 years now, first it was a 767-200ER so lets so what happens ..... LBA will be the first base to get it anyway

skyman771 21st May 2007 12:18

Need to get my head around this Bangor fuel stop on a NCL-SFB 752 service. Firstly I'm no stranger to this 'inconvenience' as it was suffered annually on the family treck to FLA in the late 80's / early 90's on west bound 752's of any number of charter operators over the period. However I do recall that this stop was always scheduled in any event. However on the latter years of 752 ops on the route, I recall that the flight was scheduled non stop and actually did this, was it BY?? prior to the intro of 762's. So what actually is the criteria of weight sacrifice, or were BY 752's upgraded in some way? nb. apprecaited that if Ex LBA then obviously stop would be unavoidable. I think that irrespective of the above, then one is at a significant marketing (and cost) disadvantage in selling in 2007 a NCL- SFB with a stopover when there are other operators who may be operating a A332 or B762 non stop.:ugh:

crewboi83 21st May 2007 14:10

Well lets not forget that it is just a rumour for now. I would imagine that should jet2 operate to SFB they may well wait untill 767s have been aquired. Altho GSM do sell their SFB via bangor and it still sells!

jet2 - SSH

would make sense as it seems FJE may not be flying there from october, maybe jet2 or another carrier will pick up most of there routes, ACE, LPA, TFS, FUE, SSH, all popular in winter alone, plus all the summer flights.
ANyone know what/if FJE will still be around past summer 07? I heard they wanted 4 new a/c, 2 at NCL 2 at MAN? anyone shed any truth on this, seems quite good idea, also heard possibility of a 767 for fje at ncl?! Potential long haul routes then from NCL, which i think they should concentrate on!

Jamesair 21st May 2007 16:48

Any rumours about what Easy/Ryanair/Flybe might be planning for the winter schedules?

crewboi83 21st May 2007 19:37

NCL1 not sure if FJE will still be around, and in what capacity. upto now its rumoured that Air Malta will base a unit in NCL and operate XL/Freedom flights in summer 08, kind of replacing FJE

CentreFix25 21st May 2007 20:40

My understanding is FJE will cease to exist come the end of the Summer and the 757s are to be converted into freighters.

noiseabatement 22nd May 2007 00:17

FJE

Correct me if I am wrong, did FJE's 762 go to Sliverjet??

RR engined freighters, now funny that crops up as FedEx are looking to source up to 150 RR engined 752's. The P & W engined models are apparently 5% less efficient, unless of course you fit good old winglets - see Finnair P & W engined 752!

Jamesair:
Heard nothing out of the ordinary regarding winter schdules from your mentioned airlines, no doubt the usual ski routes I guess.

Jamesair 22nd May 2007 10:14

Winter schedule from TUIFLY keeps Hanover at 3flights weekly. In 1940 out 2025 Th/F/Su

crewboi83 22nd May 2007 11:11

Yes FJEs sole 767 is now G-SJET with silverjet, and i had heard the 757s where going to DHL in november.
Anyone know why the KL AMS and LS AMS services where runnin between 60-90 mins late this morning? noticed a lot of UK traffic into AMS was running about 1hour late.

nclpilot 22nd May 2007 12:52

ATC strikes in Italy may have something to do with it
