Nightstoppers - Don't forget the XL B738!:)

fl dutchman 19th Dec 2007 20:47

2008

Dont wish to bring doom and gloom, but there will be no FJE aircraft or Finnair aircraft next summer. Thats in addition to the possible lack of a MYT aircraft(although I have heard there will be an additional TCX aircraft as well as the 2x 757 possibly a 320). Plus the reduction of Easyjet aircraft from 7 to 5/6, not to mention Jet 2 cutbacks.

So its not going to be anywhere near as busy as summer 2007.

Dont think anyone will pick up the Milan from Ryanair even though it seemed successful, No one seems to want to start any new routes from NCL at the moment, just drop or cut frequency on them.

Perhaps it is coincidence but the decline in routes seems to have started when there was a change to the management of the airport.

SWBKCB 19th Dec 2007 20:55

...although since the change in management Emirates have launched and LH and QI have doubled their flights - swings and roundabouts :)

Will NCL still have more RYR flights a week than MME next summer?

fl dutchman 19th Dec 2007 21:11

I think the Emirates was in the bag before the management change. More losses than gains by a long way. Of course the mergers with the tour operators would have happened anyway.
As I have said before perhaps NCL just grew to fast. But Its now being left behind with major expansion elsewhere.

HH6702 19th Dec 2007 21:35

Ryanair

reading another forum there it states that Ryanair wants to base 2/3 aircraft at a northern base for winter 2008/9.
The northern base isnt manchester but they are using manchester to play them off at the min?

so lets have it DTV or NCL?

Dont think easyjet have put every flight on sale yet?

SWBKCB 19th Dec 2007 21:38

True - just making the point that it's a bit early to be making a call on the competency or otherwise of the new management - most of what is happening would have been set in train before the change or is well outside the control of the airport management.

re TCX/MYT - from what I hear they're to busy fighting to have sorted out next summer - slight clash of cultures I believe:rolleyes:

Jamesair 19th Dec 2007 23:45

Other frequency increases are: Murcia with EZY coming onto the route, Jersey, additional flights, Cardiff...a daily service with Flybe. Last but not least a full summer of Dubai with Emirates.
On the cargo side...the new EMA mail flights and the DHL Paris flights.

Plus whatever is still to be announced.

That TCX AYT flight has been listed on the summer timetables for quite some time, replacing the previous BJV rotation. TCX have re-jigged their programme to incorporate previous MYT flights.

NCL is not a UK departure point for EFL, BMI have served the island for years on behalf of Olympic and Kosmar Holidays. It is a new UK departure for the My Travel/Airtours/Thomas Cook group, however.

What I was trying to say is that 69 routes is quite a large drop from last year, but maybe with the increase in frequency on some flights, passenger numbers will remain stable! I do not think, IMHO, we will see many if any new destinations from the charters, maybe a few from the scheduled side?!

10 DME ARC How could I forget the XL a/c?

TCX group would only partially base an aircraft, A320 over weekends if the programme justified it, which at present it does not - however I accept things might change!

GrahamK 20th Dec 2007 08:15

Firstly, stop all this negativity.
This consolidation was always going to happen, the population around Newcastle was never going to be able to keep supporting expansion at the rate we've seen. Next 2-3 years will probably see some routes added, and some routes dropped. It's just something we have to expect.
After that, then we could see real growth again.

It's not just Newcastle in this position. Glasgow has been in a bit of a rut for a few years now, with Edinburgh overtaking it at an alarming pace. Both Newcastle and Glasgow are for the most part, leisure orientated airports, but both will see growth again, so no need to panic just yet, and certainly no reason whatsover to call the new management, who have barely settled into the post, incompetent, that's just a load of nonsense.

Anyway, good news about the CPH going 2 Daily. Was quite sceptical about this route given it doesn't have an SAS codeshare but happy to have been proven wrong :ok:

eyefly 20th Dec 2007 12:57

SWBKCB,

Not sure what you think have heard but there is no in-fighting that i know of. Never heard of two large companies coming together and being one well-oiled machine within months before either.

Also no chance of an extra a/c for S08 (even w'end only). The whole flying programme is covered by the 2x75s, hopefully with a few more "fire breaks" through the night to serve as catch up time.

Shame about Ryanair pulling off Bergamo. Surely Jet 2 will step in with a 3 x weekly service with more sensible timings. They seem to be successful at Leeds with Bergamo and the route should easily work with a smaller aircraft than Ryanairs 738's with 189 seats. Surprised Jet2 haven't tried Venice either on a two or three times weekly rotation.

GrahamK 20th Dec 2007 21:19

HH6702, believe those are cruise charters :ok:

airhumberside 21st Dec 2007 10:45

Primarily to connect to the new Thomson Cruise operation out of La Romana, but these flights are also available for holidays in the Dominican Republic

transwede 21st Dec 2007 13:03

Are the cruise charters operating directly into La Romana?

On the Monarch Airlines flights to CUN and POP for S08 are they both direct and still planned to go ahead?

Does anyone have any idea who is operating the sunday NAP charter onbehalf of Airtours? By the current timings appears to be an Italian based aircraft, Eurofly, Neos? Do any of these airlines do charters to UK?

airhumberside 21st Dec 2007 15:09

Yes, flights go to La Romana airport
