I see GZAPZ was flying for baby as well today. Is it tech a/c or still fleet problems?

It seems that the Crown Plaza Hotel in Birmingham are upgrading to include a suite of 30 rooms it is permanently putting aside , for International air crew stopovers routing through Birmingham Airport.
The rooms are to have black out curtains and all be soundproofed with the official line that these are so the flight crews can sleep !! |
As opposed to the unofficial line???....Maybe for rendition flight crew??:eek::}

I wrote on the Bristol thread:
I met Mr K when at Luton, and he struck me then as 'passing through' on his career trajectory. No passion for aviation, more passion for the career! Just a personal view, of course. You may get someone better at BRS now. If so could it be a big risk on his part? BHX heading towards 10 million pax, FR base secured, runway application in, T1 new pier started and TK almost in the bag, you might say the only way is down? In these economic times can it get any better, I suppose we will just have to wait and see? Your paragraph is only 28 words if I counted correctly but chilling all the same . So the CV entry looks quite good - "Ran the UK's 5th largest airport, serving its' second city during a period of growth..." "Ran a two-terminal airport with inter-continental, European and domestic links, operated by n scheduled airlines including Emirates, American, Lufthansa, Air France". :D |
American ?
I think you mean Continental ! |
They're all as Chapter 11 as each other!
But sorry for the mistake, was thinking of the past.... |
£200K is not a bad career move:rolleyes:.......As I said, looks like a money motivated move as much as anything else. I accept that we are larger than BRS but I would still question the 7 month loyalty to his last post....

Call100
Reports from in DH say that JK did go for the job and is very disappointed.
I think the general feeling in BIA is also one of disappointment, Joe has done a really good job. His work on inclusion and communication with staff has been very good. |
His work on inclusion and communication with staff has been very good. Perhaps the powers that be don't want this type of manager and that's what did for him. We will have to wait and see. Suzeman |
So, there you go then!
Joe Kelly runs BHX for well over a year and finally gets the airport motoring with real expansion in infrastructure and passenger growth and gets turned down for the job. The guy chosen as CEO will probably, on past form, remain at Birmingham for less time than Joe Kelly served in the position. I wonder what Mr Kelly will say next time he's asked to stand in? |
So, there you go then!
Joe Kelly runs BHX for well over a year and finally gets the airport motoring with real expansion in infrastructure and passenger growth and gets turned down for the job. BIA have a habit of recruiting persons externally and not promoting from within. It's ironic that they have the "Investors in People" status. BIA advocate that through their selection processes that the best person for the post will be appointed. These posts of late, tend to be taken by persons who look great on paper (CV's and The Apprentice come to mind!). My partner, BIA employee, did a secondment for a number of months to help out. Partner was effectively told you're no good when the job was then advertised externally and an external candidate got it. I do sympathise with Joe K. After being told you're no good and then ask, "Joe, could you carry on for 6 months until our newby has completed his notice period?" :ouch: Very painful indeed. I also believe that Joe K genuinely has/had the interests of BIA staff at heart as Giddy suggests and agree with Suzeman. Is Joe too nice for the upper eschelons of "the board"? |
JoeK
I don't suppose any of us thought JoeK wasn't going to get it - but with the benefit of hindsight - I wish we had all been in here saying what a good job he was doing BEFORE the interview , however I do agree with Grundyhead, this is not the first time a decent seconded employee at BIA doesn't get the job - at a management level and I doubt the fact that the staff believed in JoeK and thought he was leading the airport well would have made any difference with the board.I suppose the new guy has proved one thing very well - he will come in, do the things he thinks needs doing and clear off.:ugh:

June 2008 pax
Part quote from the bhx website
"Birmingham International Airport handled 936,868 passengers during June, including 640,793 scheduled passengers and 296,075 charter passengers spread across the two passenger terminals; an increase of 2.8% over the previous year." End of quote. A very disappointing figure considering an extra 738 based from mid month in the form of Ryanair. IT pax down over 16000 about 5%. The schedules were a mixed bag - a few Ryanair ones: - REUS 2369 PAX - AVG 148 LOAD FACTOR 78% GIRONA 3917 PAX - AVG 151 - 80% TORP 1135 PAX - AVG 95 - 50% :( RZESNOW 1232 PAX - AVG 154 - 82% :) BILLUND 1379 PAX - AVG 115 - 61% DINARD 1248 PAX - AVG 104 - 55% :( POITIERS 1521 PAX - AVG 127 - 67% SHANNON 6224 PAX - AVG 120 - 63% FORLI 1057 PAX - AVG 132 - 70% PISA 3292 PAX - AVG 127 - 67% TRIESTE 1008 PAX - AVG 126 - 67% OPORTO 116? PAX - AVG 146 - 77% :) Most of the baby loads on the routes that are going were 80% plus (except Madrid) and the ones with dreadful load factors are in the main staying. Of course we are talking about June not January and it is the longer routes, which are to be cut. I will post some more when I have checked acarsd etc for the number of rotations. Pete |
EasyJet
EasyJet have released the rest of the winter 2008/2009 schedule, and both Geneva and Grenoble will operate from Birmingham.
Geneva - Daily Services Start Monday 15th December, Before 4X Weekly. Monday: 2 Services Tuesday: 1 Service Wednesday: 1 Service Thursday: 1 Service Friday: 2 Services Saturday: 2 Services Sunday: 2 Services Grenoble - Starts Saturday 13th December Saturday: 1 Service Sunday: 1 Service I can not see EasyJet adding any more routes from BHX in the future with Ryanair expanding more and more, however i could be wrong. :ok: |
easyjet
Although the November schedule is :( it is more than made up
with what comes after. I have not checked the timetable in full but it looks like a Geneva based aircraft. The Grenoble times seem to match a Gatwick based aircraft on a "W" pattern. Great news for BHX this one, GNB could certainly have gone with poor load factors last year compared to most of easy's routes but money must have been made I just can't believe the Geneva schedule from mid December :). Norwegian Warsaw to end?
Prompt from another forum - no longer bookable after 31/8/08.
Sad to see this one go but with baby on the route I suppose something had to give. Hopefully baby will re-think their two a week service this winter. In fact I hope baby re-think their whole winter schedule. Local rumours are that there is no more to come! What airline operates more flights on a Wednesday than a Monday and Friday at any time of year let alone the depths of winter? One particular schedule airline at bhx last winter didn't operate a single flight on a Wednesday :hmm:. If I have copied the schedule correctly it is six based in the week and seven required at weekends. Even if there are no additions there will be adjustments. Pete Pete |
"One particular schedule airline at bhx last winter didn't operate
a single flight on a Wednesday" I think that's cos Monarch know what they're doing.... |
Intertoto Cup Charter

Nothing to much to get excited over but SUNAIR will be sending in a DO28 jet to day stop, a week saturday. Brings in the Odense FC team and officials for the game with Aston Villa. Have not heard of any other charters but will let ya know if I do. Barry |
