I think you are been generous - out go Murcia, Almeria, Palma, Mahon & Ibiza.

Okay the last two always go for winter but Palma normally restarts in February. However none of the five reappear at all.

The good news is that Tenerife is daily in November and from mid February and at worse is 6 a week which is a good increase. Alicante is 6 a week and reduces to 5 in Dec & Jan but this is still an increase on this winter.

Faro is 5 a week in November and from Mid Feb with 4 a week still operating in the quiet months, again up on this year.

Arrecife is two a week on the same days as this winter.

Murcia could be picked up by Ryanair as it used to have great load factors before it moved up the M42.

No new routes yet and the timetable might be far from finished.

I agree lets hope Monarch look into more routes for the winter, maybe Larnaca could appear on the schedule. We will have to wait and see.:ok:

Monarch Scheduled Winter services

BHX-MJV,PMI and LEI,
These services are no longer available to book from any other UK base including LTN,LGW or MAN. I would think that this is a phased release of seats. Im pretty sure thats what happened last year.

Lets hope so.

Most days they still require 3 scheduled aircraft and there are quite a few
gaps in the afternoon, which I expect will be filled with at least LEI & MJV.

I assume the staggered release is their form of yield management
as I doubt slots are problem at either end.

I thought they might add in Las Palmas and Larnaca but I suppose that there is time.

Don't forget there's still the Baby Murcia flights. Goes up from the winter 3 to 5 a week this weekend and then up to 6 a week mid summer.:ok:

Friday 4/4

Another interesting and busy day.

Diversions taken again reached double figures including the new
Lufthansa Frankfurt - Bristol service for the 2nd time this week.
I trust all went well with the handling (most went out empty).

Approaching their 40th Birthday, Monarch sent in their new 321
after an air test out of Luton plus even more unusual, an A300
turned up from Hanover on a trooping flight.

Lufthansa upgraded the evening Frankfurt again to a 321, which
was apparently full and KLM have been as good as their word with
four 738's today.

All in all a good start to April and hopefully another good month
with at least a 7% increase on 2007 but we will have to wait
and see on that one.

The CO EWR-BRS ended up in BHX too, it's been a busy few days for the CO ground staff after the tech problems on Wednesday.

As posted on the Monarch thread, shame that they have confirmed
no Murcia or Almeria this coming winter.

Another chance for FR to give Murcia a go. If they fly both BHX and EMA
Shannon I can't see them worrying too much about flying to Murcia from both other than the fact they would have baby as competition at BHX.

I also think LEI at 2 or 3 a week could be fruitful for FR as well, I believe they do fly there from other airports or at least one.

FlyboyUK 7th Apr 2008 17:51

I am led to believe under the terms of the agreement with the BHX base that Ryanair can't fly the same route as an established BHX operator for a period of time.(Doesn't include MRS as that was announced before the BHX base). Not sure when that expires, but for the time being that rules out MJV.

Let us hope that Baby fly it at least 5 a week this winter then
(four a week last winter).

Almeria is a difficult one but 2 or 3 a week in the winter might
just work for FR or even WW.

I wonder if the ZB winter schedule is all 321 and hence the loss
of LEI and MJV. Although the 321 did a couple of MJV's and one
of three LEI flights, at least this could be part of the reason for
the loss of the routes. Although going by the LEI loads it is probably
more of a case of a lack of pax.

Your explanation would also explain ZB's confidence in re-introducing
it next summer without handing the pax to a new operator.

OltonPete,

I would assume that the reason Monarch are dropping these routes for the winter is because they have found them to be more seasonal than others from BHX and have lost a shedload of money operating them this winter but see the potential for the summer months. LEI and PMI are renowned for their seasonality as evidenced by the way EZY/RYR have cut back LEI from STN for the winter and the reductions that everyone makes on PMI for the winter. CAA stats also back up the high seasonality on these markets.

Apron Works?

Quick question:

What are the apron works going on at the moment at the end of T1 Pier?

Are they repair works or something else?

revo 8th Apr 2008 15:18

Apron works

I noticed that too. I also realised that stands 45, 50 and 51 are not in use at the minute and havent been for about 2 weeks.

The whole apron is having to be replaced over the next few months due to cracking etc

I post the CAA stats elsewhere and thought MJV and LEI were not that
bad but unfortunately they were! There is very little explanation required as to why Monarch have pulled these routes: -

LEI

NOV 3419 - 28 rotations = 122 pax 65%
DEC 3189 - 28 rotations = 114 pax 61%
JAN 2881 - 26 rotations = 111 pax 60%
Feb 3110 - 24 per acarsd = 130 pax 69%

MJV

NOV 7866 - 64 Rotations = 123 pax 70%
DEC 7153 - 68 rotations = 105 pax 60%
JAN 6865 - 64 rotations = 107 pax 62%
FEB 8078 - 68 rotations = 119 pax 65%

Both ZB services were a mix of 320's and 321's but baby were mainly 300's during the winter.

February rotations are estimates with the CAA punctuality stats used for
the other months.

These are quite bad even before we start talking about yield although some might argue that Almeria on a smaller aircraft might get the numbers (but probably not the yield).

ZB LEI and MJV

I think I may have posted this before but ZB are dropping LEI and MJV from all of its UK bases so it has not been able to successfully fill its aircraft nationally which is some relief as it is not just a BHX problem.

Airlines at BHX and other regional airports need to think about where they are going to utilise aircraft in winter. Cyprus and Turkey don't have great weather in Winter so why not try SSH, LXR, BJL, LPA, FUE even AGA and RAK. I think that WW/FR/ZB seem to struggle to successfully utilise aircraft in winter.

Seasonal SZG,INN,BGY,TRN,TLS,SOF,ZRH,NIS,LDS,PAU and the Santa resorts in Finnland operated between PMI,AGP,LEI and traditional Med resorts like the charters do may be the answer? SZG,INN,TLS and TRN could support multi-weekly flights as GVA does now. More mixed business and leisure, year round routes such as BRE,SFX,BVA,MAD,AAH,TRN,ATH,HHN etc. are what is needed.

Seasonality seems to be more of a problem at regional airports something that maybe needs to be addressed?

Phew got that of me chest now for a lye down in a darkened room!!:}

TartinTon 9th Apr 2008 12:18

Daza,

"ZB are dropping LEI and MJV from all their UK Bases" is complete rubbish.
LEI has been dropped from LTN and BHX for winter only and will return next summer. MANLEI, LGWMJV, MANMJV will continue through the winter but on a lower frequency.

MAN and LGW schedules for winter aren't even announced yet! Perhaps they are stopping flying from MAN and LGW altogether!! :rolleyes::rolleyes::}

I saw this article which said they are upgrading Arrecife to 3 weekly for the winter and are again increasing Tenerife to daily.

Gatwick and Manchesters schedules to be announced shortly.
