Coz STN have just hiked their charges up by a large ammount and FR respose
was to drop 7 aircraft from there for the winter! if in doubt look at their pax figures for Nov/Dec they have dropped by 6%+ also look at at all the airlines dropping the place or transfering over to LGW/LTN and even LHR in one case Ryanair are a very ruthless airline as is well known, upset them and they pull the plug The Midlands are well covered as BHX/EMA are not the only airports to take pax you have LTN/BRS/COV/RHA plus STN/LHR and MAN which to many passengers are only an hour or so away Yes I have done the A14 many times but M6/M5 junction is far worse and I will do anything to keep clear between 06.00 and 19.00 Ian |
...BHX got the base on it's own merits...like it or not! MAN will get it's ryanair base futher down the line imho...!
If STN hadn't put it's prices up this may have been a moot point...but they did and they chose BHX over many others (whatever the reason may have been)......be happy for BHX.....it's been a tad stagnant for a wee while....it needed a good boost and this, along with other anouncements soon to come, will hopefully make it a good year for BHX. good on yer BHX and all UK airports for that matter regards Karl |
Karl
I hope you didn`t think that I was saying that BHX got it by default but more by STN raising the charges and FR/BHX altering their stance a bit and hey ho things all fall in place that probably would not have happened 6 months ago. There are major changes all over at present, some could be seen and some most definitely not I would say a year of interest and plenty to talk about Ian |
Some of you are real conspiracy theorists! For my money I would wager that FR chose BHX on its own merits. Considering it's the UK's 2nd biggest city and 2nd business centre after London, FR probably saw a gap in the market that wasn't being served adequately. Good luck to them and to BHX, it deserves a greater range of destinations.

BHX were talking to FR for some months before the deal was done. The stated 10 days was just the period that they sat down and put the meat on the bones. FR wanted to come to Brum for a couple of years now but fell out because MOL was being his usual self. Common sense has prevailed (even FR can backtrack).
No Fan, but, Onward and upward.....:p |

FC:
Presently Loganair don't even have any flights to Dundee, let alone a base. Maybe that'll change soon as I don't see any reason why a BHX route with a Saab 340 couldn't work, as the type has operated out of DND before (Business Air, forerunner of bmi Reg). |
Monarch scheduled
When will know ZBs summer schedules?
|
I've heard through the grapevine from friends at MON that BHX have been trying to secure one of the additional A321s which are arriving this year, though not sure if that's going to happen this late, presumably all of their capacity is tied up for months in advance. Also heard they've had, or are having, a reshuffle of their base management at BHX. Nice walking through Birmingham city centre though and seeing "the low cost airline that cares" posters everywhere.

Monarch summer 2008
Revo
Monarch released summer 2008 about 3 or 4 months ago. A full schedule of 3 based 321's plus the one IT 321 which does schedules on some days. The flights are very similar to summer 2008, with the 2nd SAT Malaga starting later or not all (can't remember exactly). Ibiza and Mahon returns and Arrecife reverts to one weekly. Palma stays at 8 a week and Alicante 9 a week by July. I have also heard that BHX are after another based aircraft for later in the summer. However not too many of their kind of routes left but LPA, LCA & PFO the obvious ones unless they try something different like Greece or Egypt. Pete |

There are major changes all over at present, some could be seen and some most definitely not I would say a year of interest and plenty to talk about Ian When asked why he had done a 360 on his rants about charges the year before, he side stepped the question. (Because charges were not slashed to get FR). He said, "It's not about the charges. It's about the facilities offered by BHX". BHX being on the start of huge expansion is an ideal opportunity for FR to have a major central UK base. Watch out for the Ryanair Hangar(s) (and other 'facilities') appearing in an area near you soon.;) |
Ryanair at BHX
I understand that Ryanair may be going into T2, so this where MOL's comments about facilities may come from.

FR T2
Latest is KL, AF, LX, SN to come back down to T1 to make T2 FR and BE not sure bout T3 though ?
Personally cannot see the hanger thing over the otherside happening with FR, BA took a lease after VB, but unsure what happened when BE took out BA. I don't think FR would consider this as costs would be too high in fact the rates to Solihull Council alone would be astronomical! |

CALL100,
Thats fine by me! I was only posting on the basis of existing hanger space. If FR and BIA have struck a deal to build/invest in new hangers for FR then great - we all look forward to having an FR Maint base here with more acft, facilities, jobs, movements etc......so lets stop guessing and wait to see if your right !:} |
FR Hanger
Now the short runway is "officially" closed, FR could build hangers etc where the old "Freight West" site was planned to go, don’t expect the Sheldon locals to be happy about this though.
Not surprised that the Scheduled carriers are planning to desert T2 if MOL's brigade come marching, their clientele would not mix very well with the pax that FR tends to carry & space in the lounge would be a nightmare as well. I hope that BIA don’t regret this decision in a few yrs time when MOL tries to put the squeeze on them to decrease landing/parking fee's, after all he's done that before.:hmm: |
We Ryanair clientele mix with passengers at other airports without any problem, why should Birmingham be any different?. Are the other Birmingham scheduled passengers all something special.
|
Fr @ Bhx
FR will be using T2 there will be no removal of airbriges etc.KLM 737-800s are able to use airbridge served stands at the Eurohub so why not FR. Staff are being recruited for a T2 team including a lead agent by the handling agent.
