BCN is gone from the webiste from the middle of November. Is it just a website issue or am I in trouble?

Other routes are gone unbookable as well.

201004 - Is a techincal issue number. Its just BCN route not bookable at the moment.

All flights BCN-ORK after mid November are still not bookable on aerlingus.ie but are available via different book engines.

The cynic and conspiracy theorist in me is beginning to wonder if there is some greater agenda going on - it could be argued by forcing as many Cork pax as possible to route through Dublin for flights be it with EI or any other carrier that the interests of the likes of the DAA would be well served in order to go some way towards paying for the big ego Teminal 2?

If that was in any way the case and I am merely speculating Cork Airport's interests would be listed well down the pecking order once again at Irish airports.

It is fast approaching the time that when any readers on this forum whom harbour an affection for Cork Airport must encourage as many of their friends, relations and colleagues as possible to begin their flights from Cork Airport and to think carefully before flying from any other Irish airport especially Dublin and Shannon Airports.

Just say no to any unnecessary flying from other Irish airports and get blitzing those letters and emails to the marketing department at Cork Airport seeking more direct flights from Cork but dont leave it at that either send copies of your letter or email to Mr Mueller in Aer Lingus and demand that long overdue transatlantic flight to New York.

The cosy arrangements all ready in place for far too long must be stopped.

Cork Airport has been losing out too much to other airports' selfish interests.

One A320 will just do a run to and from Lanzarote on Tue Thu and Sat if BCN is taken out . Serious under utilisation if you ask me.

BCN would do a lot better if the flights went on FRI - SUN - WED. Having them on T-T-S means people can't do a weekend city break which a lot of people do. That may be affect booking on the route also.

With BCN still not bookable it doesn't look good for the route.

I can't imagine Aer Lingus are just canning it without any plans to use the aircraft for anything else.

I wonder if they are considering upping the frequency to Paris once Shannon loses its service.

Asked around last night about BCN it dosent look good for the route. I rang Aer Lingus last week and they said there was a techinical issue in the booking system and it would be available to book from today. This hasnt happend i'll ring them again and see what the story is but this has so called ''technical'' issue never happened before or am i wrong?

Sad also too see that on Tuesdays & Saturdays this month there is only 3 evening flights due to the removal of NCE why was it scrapped for the winter season so early this year?

Just in contact with Aer Lingus they said ''The route is gone from the end of November and will be returning in Late March'' i asked why and pointed out it was year-round for over 4 years now and i was told ''Available slots where not given to us and we used the Tuesdays , Thursday & Saturday slot for another route. She then advised me to travel via Dublin.

I cant belive this. This was such a popular route and as jamie2k9 pointed out removing the chance of a weekend break no doubt resulted in decreased forward bookings. I know no these slots are being used for Belfast, its such a shame to hear!

Whilst I am loathe to say it this is a golden opportunity for Ryanair to take over on Barcelona Cork. This has been a bad move by Aer Lingus in Cork though my sense is that this has been an even worse handling of the situation by the crowd up at Cork?

Hard to believe that this is slot related. Barcelona isn't LHR. There is ample runway and ramp space available. Probably more to do with people keeping their spare cash under the mattress instead of going on City breaks.

Kavs8 simply got standard answer 14 from the Aer Lingus person on the other side of the phone.

My only thought is that by "slot" they mean they found a better use for the aircraft. Maybe GVA will see an increase? how popular is BCN in the winter? The other possibility might be winter sun routes, particularly on the Saturday afternoon.

The route is bookable up to the 16 November and T2 in DUB is due to open in mid November. It's not looking good.

Flights resume on March 27 2011 on SUN, MON, WED & FRI.

I tend not to believe that it's some sort of conspiracy related to the opening of the new terminal in Dublin. In general, people who were going to travel will not or will wait til the route restarts, while those with necessary business trips are more likely to route through Heathrow and Amsterdam than Dublin.

brian dromey->While Barcelona has been getting a bit jaded as a city break destination lately (largely because so many people have been there already), it has a good sideline acting as an access point to Andorra for skiing.

I'd say it's a bit late to be putting on a Winter sun destination or extra skiing flights. Most holidays of that type get booked long in advance.

My money would have been on extra flights to Paris, but given the departure time of the BCN flight, there may be an issue getting slots at CDG. Bringing back the Rome flights for the Winter might be an idea. A more business oriented route like Frankfurt, would provide better yields in the Winter, but the timings aren't very friendly to business pax and also those yields get built up over a period of years.

As a Corkonian in Barcelona, the loss of this flight is going to be awkward. I wonder what they’ll do with the flights I have booked.
As for “Barcelona has been getting a bit jaded as a city break destination”; that would be great. The old part of the city is plagued with tourists, residents never go there anymore, overpriced, terrible food and huge queues.
I hope that Easyjet and Ryanair follow Aer Lingus’ example.

I called Aer Lingus today as I had planned to use the route in December and they have confirmed that it has been axed for the winter.

To be fair to Aerlingus, they did base keep 4 planes at Cork on a year round basis since 2006. However at the rate they're pulling out flights they'lll be down to 2 320's next winter. Barcelona being dropped is particularly disappointing as it means that the city break choice out of Cork is confined to cold damp destinations during the Winter months.
