It is possible to enjoy the job, but there are very few people who planned to spend circa £80k getting their licence etc, so that they could be treated so poorly by their employer. If the job was that enjoyable, people would stay - or return once they have tasted the non-green grass elsewhere.

The rank and file at Eastern do have a can-do attitude, it just tends to get ground out of them and turned into a don't-want-to-any-more attitude.

captain klutz 13th Oct 2013 12:43

I'm pleased to hear the rank and file still have a positive attitude it's the key to survival and can only ground out of you if you allow it.

See In just a couple of lines the word positive returns and the tone of the thread begins to change..

Think I will submit my CV and see if I can't make a return......Happy Days!!

re they not possibly the two most important issues for any employee, where on earth could the grass not be greener? Mordor?
After so long at Eastern, I dream of Mordor. :)

captain klutz 13th Oct 2013 13:10

Well FF I guess you must be working your notice period as we speak !!

I think the the two most Important Issues for prospective employees at the moment are (a) Can I find a job and (b) can I keep that job the rest can be dealt with along the way.

May be your right I left T3 back in 2008 but it doesn't sound like a lot has changed never the less I still believe it can be an enjoyable job.

And the two most Important Issues for current employees at the moment are (a) can I find a job that has better pay and conditions, and (b) can I find a job that gives me some sort of life outside work.

Captain Klutz you are probably right, nothing much has changed at Eastern in the last 5 years. Except now the answer to those 2 questions is yes, and those in management who are too arrogant to see that a little respect goes far are about to reap what they have sown for such a long, long time.

And as usual it will be the positive can do attitude of the crews that will be relied upon to save the day. Meanwhile Nero continues to play the fiddle while Rome burns....

CaptainSox 16th Oct 2013 13:26

More crews leaving the EMB fleet. Any news on what they are planning to do?

Are they hoping to recruit from within?

They are aware they don't fly themselves right? :ugh:

Captain Caveman 17th Oct 2013 12:27

I have been reading this thread and I do not work for Eastern. It appears Pilots are unhappy with rosters etc.... I think its important to understand better the business model of Eastern with a mix of Oil charters, schedule work and general ad-hoc charters. What I can say is the booking trend in the ad-hoc businss has some what changed in the last 12 months with a lot more last minute charters, this has an impact - as the carrier does not want to turn down work as it pays the bills and wages and therefore crews will be changed to accomodate these requests so peoples rosters and personal lives get messed around a lot. Our company make it clear the style/type of flying we do and its important for crew to be "on board" with this and understand the our business before they join us. If you want your 4 on 4 off etc the likes if Eastern are not for you and if you are hour building then this a downside to it in the interim you are doing this. From the outside looking in it is a "different" business model to that of other UK carriers and I can fully understand Pilots disliking late changes or constant changes but that is the nature of the beast of the business this airline undertakes.

Just my thoughts !

Regards to all.

CaptainSox 17th Oct 2013 13:07

Errrrrrr :ugh:

Please Call Crewing 17th Oct 2013 13:21

A little more to do with being able to make around a £1/3 million profit per week whilst crews are treated with contempt remain dicked about underpaid fatigued and undervalued amongst other things. These could all be sorted and still make a tidy profit and keep the spitfire and the pier too.

CaptainSox 17th Oct 2013 13:54

Well put.

If it was not for the hard working crew at Eastern always going the extra mile they would have folded years ago. But that goodwill will eventually run out when taken advantage of constantly with no reward.

Captain Caveman 17th Oct 2013 18:19

Fred I'm with you all the way on T&Cs and the pay and agree with you.

I was merely making a comment on crew unhappiness with constant changes which IMO could be down to the model they operate. If Eastern are short of crews and are making money, then again I agree the situation could be improved.

It's a difficult balance to strike but maybe the management need to give a little first in this instance and show something for goodwill and understanding to continue. We are a small outfit and have flight crew living all over the place we are luckily enough to show understanding such as rostering blocks of time off at home but when they are sby at base and say live nearby / relocate for a block of 7 or14 day etc they are more than happy to be flexible within legal limits and it pays dividends for us as well as other small bits and pieces we do for crew. we do rely heavily on our crews to assist given the model we operate. If we did not help each other our business model would not survive, we need crew to be with us and vice versa. The industry is about give and take and sounds like Eastern seem to take ??

jamestkirk 17th Oct 2013 18:48

Now that loganair have contacted all the crew who have applied. We'll see what happens.

LoopGuru 18th Oct 2013 18:09

Regarding Loganair, I'm led to believe that captains are to be interviewed in Aberdeen but FOs have to go to Dundee and undergo a simulator assessment in addition to an interview and other tests. That doesn't seem very fair and I would imagine Loganair will miss out on a few Eastern Saab FOs as a result, especially as command opportunities at Eastern will suddenly be a very realistic proposition.

Dear me some of you are a sour lot. If you don't like it why don't you leave? Trust me the grass is not always greener on the other side. The private sector will never be a place where employee satisfaction is anything but a bonus as there will always be someone ready to step into your shoes regardless.

At the end of the day T3 turn a profit and in an industry where not even the big boys can say the same. If the penny hasn't dropped yet then that's probably why you find yourself questioning why you're a dogsbody.

21c Millworker 20th Oct 2013 20:42

If you don't like it why don't you leave
Genius. Why has no one thought of this before? :ugh:

CaptainSox 20th Oct 2013 22:05

Wow I would love to spend my time on the flight deck with you Rivet Joint, listening to how cool you are. Yawn

Has the penny dropped yet?:yuk:

Rivet Joint 21st Oct 2013 20:34

Don't get me wrong, no one likes to feel like a chomp but then what stepping stone is ever all rosy? Besides, if you have a better idea on how to turn a profit with sub 50 passenger, long standing not produced turboprops in a sea of orange and navy blue whilst a recession is on then I would like to hear it?

21c Millworker 22nd Oct 2013 07:48

Rivet Joint, you obviously know nothing about T3, how it operates and what the issues are.

budlee 22nd Oct 2013 08:23

I don't think that staff have any objection whatsoever to T3 making a profit - it would be extremely concerning if T3 didn't make a profit. What the staff object to (especially as the company DOES make profit), is being worked increasingly hard year upon year, with no pay rise or improvement in working conditions, hearing that latest management recruits consider us to be over-crewed , whilst the only direct communication from very senior management consists of, "Are you sure that you are doing your best?".

I believe that many staff are sick of working themselves to a standstill and gradually destroying their home/family life - especially as their efforts are so obviously dismissed by management as being insufficient and/or an irrelevance.
