New route to London-Oxford just announced by Manx2, starts May 8th.

Jersey gets new air route to Oxford - Business News | businesslife.co

Wycombe 19th Jan 2012 11:28

Nice set up at OXF, but calling it London is really stretching reality a bit.

It's an affluent catchment area in it's own right, surely.

Lord Gumboil Jnr. 22nd Jan 2012 19:25

I wish Manx the best of luck, I think that they might need it, but it is good to hear of new routes to regional airports.

Anyone know when BE will start using 175s to JER; a few months back, they had scheduled them for the MAN-JER route on Sat/Sun, but that route still seems to be on 175s; anything planned for the Summer?

J-Guy 25th Jan 2012 17:08

For anybody interested, there appears to be a some new German charters operating weekly from the end of May to the beginning of June:

Düsseldorf 25 April
Paderborn 2 May
Friedrichshafen 9 May
Erfurt 16 May
Hannover 23 May
Stuttgart 30 May
Hamburg 6 June

All operated by Germania on behalf of a tour company called Globalis. I knew about the Erfurt flight, but to see the extra destinations is very encouraging. I'm assuming this is one of the reasons why Jersey Tourism is in need of German speaking guides!

This is, of course, in addition to the weekly LH/AB flights to Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover, Frankfurt and Munich and the charter from Vienna.

BarTT 25th Jan 2012 20:52

Well I know 2 good German speakers in the Tower!

GLIDERMAN 25th Feb 2012 09:06

Fog

I see Jersey at a standstill for the third day running due to fog, is this a common occurence?

lurkio 25th Feb 2012 09:20

Just about once a year you get a three day clamp. BA used to send Tristars to clear up the mess in the old days. I even saw people camping down around a Spitfire in the Air UK hangar once when they ran out of space in the terminal.

GLIDERMAN 25th Feb 2012 09:55

Fog.

Why can Jersey airport not have cat 111?

beauport potato man 25th Feb 2012 10:18

Terrain around the airport isn't suitable, would confuse the **** out of the rad alt

Charley B 25th Feb 2012 10:52

think it may be improving- a BA and a BE are just boarding at LGW:)

BA 2772 is now airborne!

lurkio 25th Feb 2012 11:34

Don't worry, he'll be back soon.

Short window of opportunity.

As for Cat III, no chance on 09 as there is nowehere to put the lights and there is a reasonably major (for the island that is) road through the lights for 27. That would need to go, along with multiple houses and businesses. The cost for the relatively few occasions it would be used is probably not feasable.

Charley B 25th Feb 2012 11:51

Looks like WW 5247 and the BA are holding over JER:(

Facelookbovvered 25th Feb 2012 12:35

Looks like the WW is off to BOH just passed Milford on sea at 3500ft

Charley B 25th Feb 2012 15:12

BA 2772 retd to LGW-the Ezy from Liverpool LANDED-it held a bit longer, and the BE from LGW has recently landed!

J-Guy 25th Feb 2012 16:44

I was supposed to fly out on the 17.50 BA last night to Gatwick, but expected that I wouldn't get away on Thursday evening so booked the ferry instead. Didn't make for the easiest journey up to York from Poole. I'm due to fly home on Monday but I read that fog is supposed to be around into next week. Better book the return ferry soon :uhoh:

easyJet seem to be making steady progress into Jersey.

JER-LGW from EZY coming.....

And not a moment too soon.

macuser 10th Oct 2012 23:11

EZY

And then BRS, MAN and EDI?

It would be good to see ezy from LGW, but with flybe and BA already serving this route will it happen? And if so would ezy target mainly daytime slots or also go for early/evening flts for business to?

J-Guy 11th Oct 2012 07:45

LGW is the obvious choice for EZY and I think it was only a matter of time before they began flying this route. If the route is launched, a lot will depend on frequency. But it has the potential to be a very big shake-up of the London market.

LPL going 2x on Saturdays in July/August as well.

macuser 11th Oct 2012 08:36

If EZY was really serious about LGW-JER they may well target BA. Flybe operate a codeshare with BA out of Guernsey so it might end up the same in Jersey.

09 ILS Jersey

Change of subject:- 09 ILS is OOS 'til end of October - rumour has it that it was shot at as there are shot holes in the aerial! Anybody know anything more? With 27 ILS falling over last week and no VOR we were well placed in the recent wx

'Bird scaring flare?'

The ops dept have a shotgun to rid the airfield of 'nuisance' birds.........

No further comment on that!:oh:

Fingers crossed that LGW-JER will come through with U2. MAN would be great, too.

I see that BE is going to be using E-175s to LGW this Winter - a considerable cut in capacity vs. the 195.

Is the new LGW route (and NCL) expected to be in place by next Summer?

akerosid 12th Oct 2012 23:33

I couldn't see it being once a day, more likely 3-4. BE would survive, but BA probably not. I don't think they see JER-LGW in their plans anyway; bit by bit, I see BA winding down its LGW short haul operation, in favour of increased LCY.

I don't think LGW has been announced nor have I heard it is happening, I think people are just hoping. The NCL is from March 23rd I think.

jerhippo 13th Oct 2012 11:46

U2 LGW-JER

I doubt there would be an EZY lgw-jer route. They tried LTN-JER and that didn;t last.
EZY from LGW-JER would bring no benefit as you cannot through check luggage even onto their onward flights. Even if they did they need 4 a day as there would be no point.
There could be Man-JER or even EDI-JER and maybe JER-NCE or Jer-BCN or AGP but LGW-JER nah!

akerosid 1st Nov 2012 18:19

HAM-JER cancelled for 2013

AirlineRoute.net is reporting that LH's seasonal service to HAM (this year operated by 737-500s) has been cancelled for next year.

J-Guy 3rd Nov 2012 16:46

It is disappointing to lose Hamburg, but the route is fairly marginal/niche and, despite being good for Jersey’s tourism industry, I expected it would be subject to change as Lufthansa reorganises its non-FRA/MUC flying. I travelled back from Hamburg with Lufthansa in July and it was about half full so no surprise really.

Interestingly, Munich seemed to have mostly connecting passengers, I expect carrying onwards to Vienna following the end of the Prima Reisen charter flights. Although there were even some US tourists connecting back to the States. Düsseldorf is still the strongest performing route and Lufthansa/Air Berlin return next year.

Other than that, these are the Globalis charters with Germania next summer:

24.04.-01.05.2013 Düsseldorf
01.05.-08.05.2013 Erfurt
08.05.-15.05.2013 Kassel
15.05.-22.05.2013 Paderborn
22.05.-29.05.2013 Bremen
29.05.-05.06.2013 Dortmund
05.06.-12.06.2013 Stuttgart
12.06.-19.06.2013 Friedrichshafen/Lübeck
19.06.-26.06.2013 Frankfurt

BA also drop the late evening flight to Gatwick on a Saturday for S13.

I don't think we are waiting for much more to be released; maybe just the Cork flights and some of the UK charters. Minor changes in some frequencies, i.e. Jet2 drop the Sunday Leeds/Bradford flight and Blackpool gone completely.

J-Guy 1st Feb 2013 16:48

Dragging up an old thread, but someone's got to keep the latest news updates from Jersey going. Not that there's much.

Air Berlin will launch a weekly Saturday flight from Stuttgart (via Guernsey) between 4 May and 21 September. Flights are as follows:

Flight arrives into Jersey at 07.30 (Guernsey at 06.30) and departs back at 18.55. In between it will operate the Frankfurt and Hannover flights. Despite the early start, at least all those nice German hikers get an extra day to enjoy the cliff paths :ok: Of course, it's good for any local thinking of going to buy their brand new Porsche too, I guess!

Sark 3rd Feb 2013 21:58

Flybe staff in Jersey worried about their jobs as everywhere else? Any news?

virginblue 18th Feb 2013 14:30

airberlin's DUS service will be operated this year with an Embraer 190 (ex flyniki aircraft).

akerosid 19th Feb 2013 17:41

BA is offer a new "hand baggage only" fare, which will initially be trialled on five routes, of which LGW-JER is one. It's quite similar to the Flybe "Essentials" fare basis - a lower fare for flying without bags, rather than a simple surcharge (which probably amounts to the same thing, but it's all in the spin!)

In other news, five of the ex-BMI A319s will be moving to BA's LGW base, so no doubt we'll be seeing them in Jersey during the Summer.

Ckin Gal 25th May 2013 22:26

Hello?

It's all gone quiet on this thread. What's going on down there? Usually something happening on the rock.

akerosid 27th May 2013 16:17

Not an awful lot, it has to be said; traffic is down this year, and last year was already down on the previous year.

However, the imminent department of BE from the LGW route is likely to stir things up a bit; latest from Rumour Central is that - wait for it - GR is interested in taking up the lease on three (soon to be) ex-BE 195s, expected to come off lease this year. These would operate primarily ex-GCI to LGW, but possibly from JER too? A lot has to do with the fact that LGW is trying to price props out of LGW and has already succeeded in doing so with BE.

There's a lot of obstacles in the way, particularly E-195 performance ex-GCI, but if Trip and Azul can operate them from Rio's SDU, then it should be possible; perhapss some modifications may need to be made.

Of course, the big question is whether U2 would want to fly from JER to LGW and if they do, would they want to base an acft here overnight. Some rumours say yes, others - no. However, it would clearly be very important for the JER market. A BE operation would be most welcome, though presumably they would only operate two or three times a day, so it might still be a drop in capacity.

virginblue 27th May 2013 17:37

The problem of E195s @GCI is not so much the runway length, but the PCN, so comparisons with SDU are a bit difficult.

Geo73 27th May 2013 22:03

Virginblue

In a few weeks time the runway works at Guernsey Airport will be complete giving it a PCN of 36.

A fully loaded E195 is quoted as having an ACN of 35.

J-Guy 28th May 2013 19:22

A disappointing bit of news - Blue Islands is dropping Manchester flights from 11 June. The aircraft will instead be used on inter-island flights.

Manchester is already served by Flybe and Liverpool by easyJet, but I would have thought there was enough demand to support Blue Islands too?
