BA axes domestic routes (BACX)

BA (including CitiExpress and Loganair) will continue to operate ex ABZ to LHR, LGW, MAN, BHX, GLA, LSI, KOI.
I presume that the BA service to CDG will be axed since that stopped off at BFS and CWL and those two destinations are both being axed.
Eastern Airways will resume ops to LBA and NCL. I have a funny feeling that this change could see Eastern Airways becoming the largest operator in terms of flights from ABZ. A spot that BA has held for a very very long time!
Now it seems that the CitiExpress Dash 8 base closure at ABZ was just paving the way for today’s announcement!
Edited to say that I hope as many jobs as possible are safe etc etc. BA do have a lot of ground crew at ABZ and I have a sinking feeling that cut backs might have to be made. If necessary then hopefully all on a voluntary basis. However the added Eastern Airways expansion could see some vacancies being created.

We have been told this afternoon that some J41 pilots will be seconded to Eastern and that if cetain individuals want to transfer they will be able to, however we were told that there will be enough positions available on the RJ to absorb all displaced J41 pilots.
Why and how the RJ issue has suddenly been resolved after such a long time I dont know having heard nothing from BALPA so far, linked of course with the fact that higher salaried BA pilots are going to be working alongside BACX pilots in the RJ cockpit, this is bound to cause problems in the long term. I will only believe any of this talk when BACX pilots are on RJ training courses.
Rather like our present labour government our management has lost a lot of credibility which is going to take some time to restore if at all.
The move to a simplified all jet fleet is no doubt a step in the right direction however one cannot help but feel that rather than being managed we are as a company reacting to events without a clear picture of where the management wants us to be in the near future.

Actually it would appear that you are correct. Having read the complete document on the BALPA website, it seems that they have sorted out the RJ problem.
The sooner the BACE guys want to get on and fly it then the sooner I can get more nights at home and stop going to MAN and BHX. Good news for me. I hope its good for the BACE pilots too?

I heard a rumour that there are negotiations by the Company to lose the Dash 8 fleet within the next 18 months. Anyone confirm this?

Watch this. This is the demise of an airline. We have a management who are rigid, inflexible and cannot adapt to changing circumstances. We got the usual "BA Brand" spin with them truelly believing that we will believe that that will carry us through. They delude only themselves. The passengers do not gove a stuff about BA Brand.
In a recent City Flyer RJ100 from Birmingham that I was flying in, passengers were served a cold 'hot' meal then the pilot announced to all the passengers not to eat the trifle because it was date expired. So much for BA brand.
We cannot compete. GreasyJet will soon announce an Inverness to Gatwick flight. Watch the demise of Inverness. Aberdeen will close for a similar reason. Watch the demise of an airline.
We may have a chance if we could get a brave management who could re-invent ourselves and if BACX were to fly as a no-frills budget - our management could not adapt. Remember this entry in 2 years time.

I put my thoughts on this debacle on a post headed "An open letter to BACX Management".
Dai is partly right, IMHO. The crews are fine. It is the management than suck. Many of us are die hard BA loyalists because of the crews, and despite the management...

I am confused - down here in the West we are told by the local TV and Press the Plymouth and Newquay to London services are being axed yet I read in this thread that aircraft are being kept on this route?

GreasyJet have just announced in the media an Inverness to Gatwick service starting from 3rd February. This will be in direct competition to our route and we are a company whose time and tested higher mis-management response to direct competition is to pull out.
"Anyone want an Inverness to Gatwick route? Here, take ours. We can't compete. You want the aircraft too? No bother- take it. No use to us anymore. You want the staff too? We'll discuss that - once we've strung them along a bit . . ."
To all our loyal BACX staff in Inverness - update your CV and P45 time. The company will offer you a re-location package to Glasgow, just like the Bristol guys - so that you can be unemployed away from home 8 weeks later at massive company expense.

It would appear that the new EASY flights to and from Gatwick are a lunchtime service. Hopefully the early morning and late evening BACX flights will remain well utilised.

Keeping on the Scottish theme, How safe are the rest of the routes in Scotland? ABZ-LSI / GLA-SYY / GLA-BEB. When the ATP's go who will get these routes?

my cynicisim stands corrected! I am most encouraged at your joint but similar responses!
All our management and commercial departments need to do is inform us and the general public that we are aiming to capture the BA brand! Then we can all stand back and watch the passengers leaving the competition in droves to come to us. The future is so bright I have to wear shades!
Flying Scot's concern about the ATP routes to BEB, SYY and ABZ/LSI - and this is a rumour page - I will lay money that in less than 2 years from now Logie Baird next door will end up with at least some of them. 2 years ago we handed them the Kirkwall to Aberdeen route (our wet lease Saab 340). Mr Magoo from the rock told us that the route was unprofitable for us to run so they got it as a gift. Sounds Familiar. I'm suprised that Logie Baird did not end up with the 2 hand back Emb145s that recently sat on the IOM for 3 months. But they'll maybe get something like that for next time.

Are the scottish routes PSO's...are there any PSO's anywhere else in the UK (particularly NEWCASTLE)
I just reading the comment about Eastern becoming the biggest operator at ABZ I'm sure they wont be far off at Newcastle either in Summer 2003
1-BA (only coz of LHR and LGW)
2-EZY (increasing later in the year...STN increase surely)
3-KLM UK (they'll do ok as long as EZY stay away from AMS)
4-FlyBE / Air France (dont think they'll last long here)
5-Eastern Airways (should do ok..keep to Gill airways routes - the ones the big boys dont want...BHX might get comp
soon)
6-SNBA (cutting down to 3 a day in the summer)
7-Ryanair (probably inrease services...we need more than ONE!!)
8-Wideroes Flyveskap (two daily surely....they've done it on sun)
9) Lufthansa (route is getting used a lot now-expect increases
soon-increasingly leisure weekends)
