let’s wait and see. Even if it’s true that Tui are putting in extra support that is just prudent worst case support.
There will be a lot of people who are very worried right now. We don’t need to make it any worse for them.
24 hours to go.

A price no-one will be willing to pay, therefor PEEL win, regardless of the consultation outcome, they know what they want to do with the land. ROI is tenfold of the airport income, and the council are not interested in saving it, they'd get a nice new income of rates etc.
Hope they've got a contingency plan in place for the management who have run this airport into the ground over the last few years when they begin to cry.

It’s a random figure on a social media group with no factual backup .
however I fully expect the figure to be substantial as Peel have planning permission sorted around the edge of the airport, and if the worst happens at some point they will get planning.
whoever buys it has to accept that. The upside is if it fails they also have the development option.
it is one of the issues for uses that require big spaces of open land.
I am sure that all involved know all of this.

While ever it's an airport there are safe guarding controls for thr surrounding sites which will restrict what can go in those locations, however of not a safeguarded aerodrome anything could go there.....

the issue I’m sure is how a purchaser funds an airport purchase when it’s value is far greater in isolation as development land.

peel went on a buying spree many years ago and own a good chunk of the land around the airport. They have now got planning consents or at least allocation on most of it.

I realise I’m naive to the legalities of such things, and I suspect that if Peel are intending to close it down then they’d only do so and not sell it on as a going concern if there wasn’t anything stopping them from a change use. Anyone on here got any idea?

One thing I can’t get my head around is whether there’s some kind of land use clause on the estate which stipulates must be used for aviation purposes. If this is not the case then given the amount that’s been spent to connect the land to the M18, why not?

Going by social media, popular opinion seems to suggest that any planning applications should be blocked, but we know there would need to be reasonable grounds to do this and blocking building on the runway would be thrown out at appeal. More £££ to the council in other uses definitely. Just wondered whether there were any other powers available to South Yorks mayor in this situation.
