Ahmedabad perhaps for the East Midlands Gujarati population?

IIRC TUI ran Goa and Phuket a few winters back, both operated once a fortnight but sadly they only lasted the one season.

I've got a feeling Thomson / TUI have served Goa ex BHX on a number of different occasions. Phuket was cruise related I think which has now been superseded by Singapore

Very interesting news about AI, really hope they expand at BHX. BHX5DME was right about Saudia so fingers crossed this comes off too, although being AI, timescales could be anything ....if they do announce expansion this year, it will be a bumper 2023 for long haul at BHX!

Langkawi (Malaysia) and Pattaya (Thailand) were the cruise flight destinations which as you say will operate from Singapore this year, I think Phuket operated simply as a typical package holiday destination.

Correct on all counts.

Although the TUI flights went to Pattaya there are no cruise facilities available at that destination except for a small landing stage. The TUI cruises departed from the nearby port of Laem Chabang which is the nearest port to the capital of Bangkok and is also the country's largest port. I've been to Laem Chabang and Pattaya several times by ship and of course visited the capital Bangkok.

Similar times and split to last time it operated

Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday

QR33/34 13:15-14:45

Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday

QR35/36 07:30 - 09:00

Hopefully loads will be good enough to allow a 5/5 split in the near future to help with connections or of course 7 and 7 like Edinburgh...

Great news, however although bookable through QR they are not appearing on the BA site - this time they do not seem to be BA codeshares and unlike MAN and LHR, BHX is not appearing as a departure point on the QR Holidays site - ditto BA Holidays (for anyone collecting double Tier Points on the BA Promotion). As these were codeshares previously, hopefully this will be sorted when the IT catches up (then I can book that trip back to Langkawi).

Jet 2 - Vienna

x2 weekly Mon/Fri from 10th November - seemingly winter seasonal at least as opposed to the ad-hoc Christmas market flights that have operated in the past.

VIE

A step in the right direction, would be lovely to see it year round but I guess Jet2 have more lucrative Med routes in the summer for its aircraft. Looks very unlikely that OS are going to return to BHX

Almost totally useless for business passengers and clearly aimed at the 'short break' market. Really given the miserable weather in that part of Europe in winter and the potential for Danube cruises in Summer I could see the route working for Jet2 year round. After all who wants to walk around a dank city seeing the sights in the depths of February.

If they added a Wednesday rotation it could make a big difference for business travel, but that isn't Jet2's business model.

Jet2 I doubt have any interest in business travel! It's not their market. This instead is a stab at a new city break destination aimed at weekend break leisure travellers. If you look at EZY, FR and LS schedules ex BHX, the vast majority of frequencies are aimed at weekend / long weekend l/ short break leisure travellers.

It's not just LS or FR, I've just returned from a 5 day short break to Greece flying out Tues back Sat on Aegean from BHX

Like it or not, leisure travel is the way forward for BHX as it is for all UK regionals. If media reports are to be believed, despite the cost of living crisis, foreign leisure travel s booming. The days of suited and booted business folk paying full fare on legacy airlines are over. Yes of course there are still business travellers but the numbers are a shadow of what they were as many companies have realised they can function pretty well without sending employees on expensive business trips by air.

AF, LH, KL etc will survive from BHX on their connections whilst other airlines including LS are operating schedules that appeal to leisure travellers whilst hopefully maximising the amount of revenue they can get from them!

Hans Airways - No AOC at present so can't go anywhere unless the lessor takes it back.

The company is still live per Companies House and that is about it.

EZY

Fantastic news 👏👏👏 well done BHX for finally securing an EZY base, they have been building up their ops at BHX over the last few years with 11 destinations this summer. Hopefully they'll add more capacity on some of popular sun and city routes and consider some unserved destinations like Lyon and Berlin. With some away based flying as well, there's scope for a good number of routes.in addition to those already operated.

Will be interesting to see how FR and LS react.

Do I detect a wind up merchant in the room? Surely not!

It will be interesting to see how much growth in passenger numbers and routes the three based A320s will bring, since on the face of it routes such as BFS, GLA, EDI, and AMS could be swapped to operate on BHX based equipment. However I would imagine the reality will be a combination of that and new routes/increased frequencies.

LTN base Capt confirmed this was the plan to me back in 2019, but world events hampered it somewhat!

Great for EZY and the surrounding BHX region.
