Gatwick-2
Some good news... Qatar Airways is bringing forward the resumption of LGW-DOH to the 20th August, instead of late October as previously planned. Will be operating once daily. Hopefully this will mark the start of a (slow) recovery to long haul at Gatwick.

Let’s hope Emirates now also come back here sooner than planned ..think last Iheard was one daily flight from 1st October

If to query QTR into STN then as we know their existing operations are on behalf of BA World Cargo...
STN had handling issues during the main lockdown due amongst other things HOTAC for crews & requests for charters from carriers were more or less self denied...
Interested myself with QTR choosing LGW for these flights then, perhaps poss slot sitting/protecting for a restart of full pax ops there...

Whilst the dedicated freighter may go into STN a few times a week, far more cargo has always been brought into LHR and LGW on the regular pax flights. Hence why QR maintained at least six daily flights into LHR all throughout the COVID era, including at least four daily freight only services on 77W aircraft. QR also picked up a lot of IAG freight in the absence of BA’s regular services to some of the Asian markets.

How are the 77Ws used configured for cargo?...Could be perhaps hard to believe a B77W with or without seating is PER aeroplane carrying more cargo than a dedicated B772F with 9G restraint/strengthened floor & palletized loading...
Total volume wins into LHR/LGW only by the number of frequencies used.

The 77W and A35K can carry 20-25 tonnes of cargo with a full passenger load. Four of the six pre-COVID frequencies would equal the same tonnage as one fully loaded 77F (around 100 tons), and anything on the two A380s and three 787s (into LGW) would be in addition to that.
I can’t comment on how much cargo a 77W can carry on a dedicated cargo flight without passengers, as it has been doing during the COVID era.
Three more points to offer, the 77F into STN isnt daily, is usually combined with another destination in Europe, and QR also have a dedicated A330F come into LHR 2-3 times a week in addition to the above.
Heathrow is the busiest airport in the U.K. by quite some distance in terms of cargo tonnage. The number of freighters going into STN may be higher but don’t underestimate the amount of cargo being carried on regular passenger flights.

QTR Cargo...
Yes but still interesting nonetheless on what maybe the cargo capacity obtained on each B773W into LHR/LGW...Is the seating retained or removed as ops appear to be scattered thru quite a few airframes,if retaining the seats then they are possibly packed with boxes between the seats with net restraint as has been developed by certain airlines. If this is the case perhaps the operation does not require more specialist cargo handling/loading equipment only supervision.
It is quite a substantial 772F op into STN overall & tho pretty much a combined service BAWC did indeed mount the same operation onward to HKG thru various European airports from STN which QTR still fly.
As has been explained then QTR are consolidating LHR/LGW cargo too but at DOH in this instance.
The A330F service has a history of rotating between STN & LHR with preCovid ops in the Summer operated to STN due slot constraints at LHR.
Noted earlier a A330F was booked into STN today...The A330F operation is not on behalf of BA World Cargo however.
It is an industry given that LHR obviously is the busiest in terms of lower deck cargo.
The irony is that as with virtually everything the UK PLC & with supplies in this instance is reliant on foreign involvement.
The Qatar Sovereign Wealth Fund owning a percentage of LHR LTD & IAG & providing the lift too.

Wizzair were awarded extra slots for the W20 season, apparently enough for a 4 aircraft base. We are little more than 2 months away from the start of the winter season, but so far nothing from Wizzair. A few times Warsaw has appeared on Lgw arrivals, so this might be in the mix. If they intend using the new slots, would they not need to be releasing any new routes soon?

The Wizz based aircraft will only be performing 2 round trips a day with either 2 hour 15 minutes or 2 hour 25 minute turnaround times due to slot blocking by other airlines.
