All that said, I'm inclined to agree as it would dilute the main brand and I suspect a good number of folk will turn to either themselves or TUI for long-haul holidays, particularly to Florida. I suspect the reasoning for retiring the TCD brand last year still stand even with the demise of a major competitor.

Jet2Holidays are a interesting counterpoint to the trend that there's no future in package holidays and became the number two brand in the UK even before Thomas Cook's demise. Even if they are operating at the lower end of the market, they're clearly doing something right to have become very successful within the space of 12 years.

Jet2 are unusual in that they are expanding from North to South rather than the other way around and don't feign sophistication or "exclusive". I have taken a holiday with them because they had the hotel we wanted at a better price than other OTA's, with flights and luggage included. I have to say that the experience was exceptional. From check-in to arrival everything ran like clockwork and the back-up from the in-resort team was genuinely useful. I got the impression that if something did go wrong we were in good hands, with people who knew what they were doing and genuinely cared for the customer. I think thats why they have done so well.

I would say Jet2 are bang in the middle of the market. Their branding is kinda cheesy and annoying, but it is fun and aimed at holidaymakers. Jet2 have done well because they recognised that there is a very large market for package holidays. This kind of customer doesn't enjoy organising flights, luggage, seat swapping on-board, bus/taxi transfers, etc. Package holiday customers want to be taken care of from the time they book to the time they land back. Jet2 are exceptional at that. TC lost sight of who their customers were, what their customer wanted and that's why their offer became irrelevant to the general public. Remember that they are selling holidays on the high street - their customers are not on-line. By cutting back the shops, the airport representatives and in-resort teams they drove price-sensitive customers into the hands of Ryanair, easyJet and customers looking for service to Jet2, Virgin and TUI.

German government bailing out Condor with a bridging credit as the government has come to the conclusion that Condor in itself has a future ahead and was put into the mess by Thomas Cook.
Jet 2 currently only does Holidays in Europe, it hasn't tried to be all things to all people (yet) in offering longer haul flights to the US / Africa / Carribeen. If its stays doing that then potentially it will be ok but in all likelihood it will believe it can expand.
TUI now own their own hotels / resorts etc as they get the additional profit from that, not sure Jet2 will go down that route.
One of the leaders of the big travel companies coined the "3 holiday booking phase" a number of years ago to view people self booking. Year 1 book it all themselves without a travel company and if goes ok then look at second year wondering maybe got lucky. If year 2 goes ok then onto year 3 and if that works then pretty much travel companys have lost them forever.

I'm looking at Ibiza departures for today's ex-flight 1040 Ibiza - Manchester (MT1201) now E91713 1200 CAA diverted to Birmingham which isn't appearing on any on-line IBZ departure boards. Will this flight be happening/when or as it isn't appearing, has it been cancelled??
Correct.
I would not want to be flown by a pilot under psycological pressure knowing he is being made redundant soon as plane lands. In addition what is to stop cabin crew from taking whatever they can from the plane on landing including the cash. This is not any different from what happens to any company that is in liquidation.
