Rome FCO - is flown 5-6 weekly. Hardly a hotbed of capacity for a big city break with expat populations too.
Almeria is still up and coming as far as mainstream British tourism is concerned. No real loco presence.
Barcelona is down on capacity now Monarch have gone but still popular as ever. Big U2 destination.
Mahon- Only Jet2 in the scheduled market. Yes has TUI/TCX but no real loco option
No route whatsoever to Orly. So how an unserved Airport can be overserved is an odd one.
Hurgarda. Could replace Sharm as an Easyjet destination. SSH was popular with U2 and HRG is replacing that.

Rome - don’t forget there are 2 airports servingbthe city. FCO is 6xweekly in peak season, then there’s Valdermort Airlines to CIA.
Almeria - up and coming, so perhaps there isn’t a requirement for more capacity as yet. No real loco presence - Jet2?? I know they don’t market themselves as loco, but they compete on Flight only with the rest.
Barcelona - down on capacity since the demise of MON, however still served several times on most days of the week.
Mahon - predominantly a package holiday destination, so the 3 largest U.K. holiday companies operate there for their season.
Orly - didn’t feature on my list, however CDG has plenty of capacity to serve Paris and beyond.
Hurghada- perhaps, but TCX have captured the market with the packages there.
As you mentioned the demise of MON, a major contributory factor to that was undoubtedly the increase in capacity on routes that they operated, thus reducing margins. There are only so many people wanting to travel on routes, if you spread them too thinly something breaks.

Any rumours on Lamezia starting again from MAN given the 2 recent TV programs and the fact FR have the UK monopoly on this flight from STN.
Would be a great route for EZY to get there teeth into given they fly there already from MXP.
The number of Italians alone in our region can support this destination twice weekly during the summer months. The number of Naples flights from the north can prove this theory and I bet punters would pay a bit more to fly further south.
Has any airline got this on the drawing board yet?

EZY base only A320’s at ORY purely down to lack of slots and therefore can increase seat capacity with bigger planes only. It makes little sense to have an ORY route when they already fly to Paris via CDG. There are plenty of other opportunities from MAN for new destinations and increasing frequency on routes already served. Time will tell. Expect to hear more next week when the NEO comes to town.

As far as ORY goes, I’ve always found it an easier Airport to transit, and also easier to get into Paris too compared to CDG. Obviously all down to personal experience but I doubt I am alone in my preference.

I'd say a few extra flights to AGP wouldn't hurt. I believe MON were the biggest operator of the route plus EasyJet seem to lack the frequency compared to other carriers imo.

We’ll, if there’s is too much capacity on the routes posted, where do you guys suppose Easyjet send up to 5 aircraft?
Clearly they have a plan, and we know that all 5 aircraft won’t be doing all brand new unserved routes, so, there are going to be extra frequencies on the ‘safe routes’, whether we think they need them or not.

MON did operate MAN-AGP twice a day on most days for many years, so I imagine it was one of their better performing routes, though I do agree it was bad management over the years.
I also expect EZY to increase GIB, there's now over 14 flights a week to Gatwick compared to only 3 from here, though there is speculation that Jet2 are also interested

easyJet
Taking the opportunity to base more aircraft is consistent with easyJet's prime consideration to be No1 at both its bases and on its routes. From that, you could deduce that there would be significant frequency increases on those routes where it is not currently No1.
