MON did operate MAN-AGP twice a day on most days for many years, so I imagine it was one of their better performing routes, though I do agree it was bad management over the years.
I also expect EZY to increase GIB, there's now over 14 flights a week to Gatwick compared to only 3 from here, though there is speculation that Jet2 are also interested
