WizzAir would have no interest in Manchester UNLESS they intend to shift all Liverpool routes to Manchester as well?

Ryanair and Easy operate out of both so why not Wizz?

It’s just the perfect introduction for them into the UK market, and positions them well for something post-brexit too.

Would be a very strategic move indeed, and a clever one at that. Acquiring a household UK airline brand, for what should really be peanuts for Wizz. Gets a UK Holding acquired by the new Wizzair UK business.

It’s a no brainer.

Not aware that there would be any.

Buying a failing UK airline, with a new UK limited company. Nothing wrong with that.

The CAA are currently processing 1300 atol renewals, of which Monarch holdays is but one. The ATOL renewal is for holidays only and not for flights. The latter makes up most of the airline’s traffic.

Struggling with the grammar here. Which makes up most of the traffic, holidays or flights?

I see all the armchair experts are sounding off again, did not take long did it? Mike Bracknell, you use the term `collapse`, you might be right, I don't know, but it's not your salary or pension at stake, I assume.

Once the media sharks start circling an ailing airline, comfidence further dereroates, and the whold vicious circle has only one outcome, and that is not good.

The CAA have this morning given Monarch a 24 hour extension of their ATOL licence. Lots of confidence there then!

Thaihawk

Then may I suggest if you don not wish to be associated with that 'vicious media circle', you delete your post please....especially the last two sentences. Unless of course you secretly revel in others' misfortune?

What kaikohe76 says.
Because it received a £165m cash in injection from Greybull which was possible through the sale and lease back of the proposed new 738 Max fleet.

What I'm at a loss to understand is that if it's only the ATOL element in question (which accounts for only 5% of business) then this should have little impact to the overall operation as the flights that the Pax that are on holiday will still be operating so absolutely no need for MON to be stopped flying and expensive 'rescue' flights organised.

The only thing I can think of is that if the ATOL is not renewed they will possibly be forced to refund those holiday bookings that they have going forward and maybe the cash isn't there to be able to do that.

Sad times, yet another avoidable mess.

Although again just as a reminder, the ATOL requirement is for the tour operator side of the business i.e Monarch Holidays. All other air tour operators will also be renewing their ATOL during this time, many of whom also require temporary extensions yet just don't get media spotlight. It's just unfortunate that Monarch has owners and a poor management team that let it get this way now seemingly every year. They should be ashamed.
