A bit like Blue Islands and Aurigny then. Inconsistencies and route cuts I mean (Paris, Amsterdam, Dornier aircraft and the Alderney debacle)

It's not about whether they pull the shuttle route or not. It has been going on for a while and if they do, oh well. There obviously isn't enough people using it so it's not worth running. It's called business - rather than a charity that has to be bailed out by the Guernsey Governement or tax payer.

Just stop with the constant snide remarks and digs. Failing that start up your own airline and make it a success - I would be interested to see how good you are.

Bad bear

Yes, the shares were indeed at this level in the past but that reflected investors' total disillusion with Jim French and his chums, due to a succession of profits warnings. It's significant that after the initial welcome that was given to the new management team, the recent profits warning has led to a collapse of the share price back to previous levels. If there are any more shocks/profits warnings, then I don't think the new management team will be tolerated for as long as French was.

As I have said before, I am not anti BEE. I wish them every success (I really do). I have friends & ex colleagues who work for them, after all.
I know that the "new management" are fighting to keep them afloat & that they have to do what they feel that they have to do. But, this is a public forum which seeks opinions & questions; & I enjoy using & reading it. As you can see, I am not short of airing my own views & raising my own questions; & I think that, in the light of what has been going on with BEE, that I am fully entitled to ask these questions & air these views. I feel that what has occurred justifies making the points & asking the questions.
There is an awful lot of inconsistency & contradiction about how BEE are proceeding.
As for AUR & Blue Islands; I take your point, but this is a BEE site. You make valid comparisons between them & BEE. But, let's reserve them for other relevant sites.
I am allowed to criticise whoever I choose & to ask relevant questions. Regardless of whether I would be a competent airline executive, or not. In fact, you are probably very correct in supposing that I would not be !
To open routes & then to close them; to close bases & then re-open them; to get rid of staff & then re-hire them; to operate parallel services from two places only 30 miles apart etc. does not indicate proper & thorough preparation, planning & assessment of the situation ( I say the last as an example of foresight & not hindsight).
The fact remains; there are quite a few posters on this site who are not impressed with BEE's efforts ! We are allowed to say so !

kcockayne - you have every right to criticise the actions of senior management, following a profit warning share holders are likely to be expressing their concerns

However, to avoid the perception that you're being unduly negative, perhaps you could suggest a few things you think should be done to improve the airline's profitability ? I'm thinking of positive actions, rather than just saying what things the airline is currently doing won't work. I'm not asking you to solve all problems or bet money on whether your ideas would work - I'd just like to hear your genuine credible suggestions as to how you might improve things. If you want to suggest routes, we'd like to hear them. If you have ideas about fleet usage, we're interested. If you have ideas about ticket pricing, we're all ears. If you want to talk about on-board product, marketing flights to the general public, please do tell...

Thanks for your constructive comments. I'll try to come up with something, tho' I 'm not an airline man !
However, I am bound to continue the rather negative aspects of some of my comments because I genuinely feel that several recent decisions are indicative of the management lurching from one thing to another. I feel that these are highly relevant, because they cost the airline money that it did not need to spend; & they give the public (in so far as it is interested) grounds to feel that the management does not know what it is doing.

Diversionary tactics

Cloud 1 - why is it necessary to defend FlyBe by attacking the actions of your competitors Blue and GR ? You should be able to defend your airline without trying to undermine the actions of others. Your response indicates the true weakness of you position.....I hope it is not as bad as your post implies.

kcockayne, I think you're perhaps being a bit unfair in your assessment of BE management. Having cut a load of capacity across the network and grounded some aircraft since 2013, with the rest of the UK as close as we're likely to get to an economic boom the market is placing pressure on Flybe to grow again (look at its share price). So, often with a view to maxing out yields, management are trying out lots of different ideas at once - seeing what might have potential and what won't.

Opening the LCY base (and the re-allocation of capacity/chopping and changing of routes since) and the FlyShuttle concept are two examples of this. You are of course entitled to voice your opinions and your criticism, but you asked what you could trust about Flybe. I'd suggest that there'd be a lot more cause for alarm if BE was continuing to run services which were consistently lossmaking in spite of that.

Flybe has changed a lot but there's clearly more to do. No doubt some mistakes will be made, but have patience. The fact that Flybe announced in Jan that it expects to break even this year is testament to the fact that it's a very different airline these days. That in itself indicts the fact that the new management is far from useless.

Interesting commentary in recent posts.

What's seems incredible to me is the Cardiff base.

1. The previous routes were operated without competition and with Q400, lower cost than 195 yet same routes will be relaunched with 195 and with competition, who naturally won't stick the challenge. How can it be now that these particular routes will be profitable to an acceptable level.
2. Most alarming of all is their entry in direct competition with stobartair. Surely they have a vested interest in not financially damaging their franchise partner? Or is the franchise deal on shaky ground. this course of action is bizarre to say the least.

Flybe has two choices

1. Keep the 195's parked up and tell the city how much it's costing the business while trying to find a home.

2. Go ahead with what sounds like a bit a heavily incentivised / subsidised deal with CWL and see if they can get a few quid on a few routes. Even if it doesn't make a lot of money - provided it doesn't make a loss then it's going to offset the park up costs.

No brainer really.

It would only be a no brainer if you could walk away from the CWL contract with no termination costs, should an attractive offer come in for the 195s.

Because of the poor SEN BE figures, one of the Stobart Flybe ATRs will be moved to CWL to operate alongside the 195s. I believe that Stobart are ceasing to operate for WX shortly and that the current CWL ATR42 will return to DUB to operate for EIR. Quite what that means for the EIR DUB-CWL service I'm not sure.

You are correct that the CityJet ATR 42 will soon return to Aer Lingus, but it will be replaced in CityJet's fleet by the former Flybe ATR 72-500 (likely EI-REL). It will not operate for Flybe. If I was Stobart, I would think twice before entering into another franchise agreement with Flybe again.

If I am not mistaken, there has only been one ATR72 based at SEN since late January, so we are talking about the aircraft that has been sitting idle since then?

BE transfer at BHX

If you have a connecting flight with flybe via BHX can you remain airside if you only have cabin baggage?

Re: Airside transfer at BHX

Nope - you need to go out and back up the stairs and through security. Very straightforward though

Has been a change if connecting from a UK domestic flight, there is a small sign in the arrivals area prior to coming landside that is marked transfers. A security staff member confirms your onward boarding card and allows you up some stairs to the Flybe area.

I don't see how entering onto one of Stobart's routes is a no brainer. No routes might have been a better bet, like popular markets that are served ex BRS. With a 195 a good distances can be served... Would be a sign of progress and new marketing opened up.
