I completely agree. What airport isn't a shopping mall these days? And the 'pile em high' strategy is basically a different way of saying 'being a successful airport'

I don't recall mentioning 'pile 'em high' and I am hardly envious, since I don't own or run an airport. All I expect of an airport is a stress-free departure and arrival and Edinburgh, in common with most U.K. Airports, fails to deliver either every time I pass through. It can be done, have you ever been through Changi?

Dont worry about it, our resident EDI fanboi was getting at me. Unless its glowing positivity, any personal views and highlighting some unfortunate concurrent events are jumped on quicker than you can say etihadtripreports

It's not economic to either build the infrastructure or recruit the staff to cope with peak hours either of day, week, or year. It's just the same with road and rail infrastructure. And of course, most people will experience it when it's busy.

Of course EDI is not immune to criticism and many of the points raised are valid but could we not raise the same criticisms against most airports? Security at EDI is often talked about; it is far far better than the security at STN or BHX for in my experience.

What does irk me are the couple of individuals here who are just waiting for something to go wrong or some reason to paint EDI as the worst airport in the world and they take great delight in doing so. The post about the cancelled Norwegian flight the other day is an example. One cancelled flight somehow points to Norwegian failing like Globespan did! I don't think so.

To me it's just plain sad and detracts from the general high quality of posts on this forum.

There are airports where infrastructure matches traffic and where the experience is consistently better than some in the UK. GIP are sweating the assets to breaking point at EDI, the opposite of what they did at LGW!
btw LGW does all of the above "uneconomic" things. Great experience when working well.

Given that LGW seems to be full all day, I assume that the peak to trough ratio is much less. And I think that the growth rate at EDI is significantly higher than had been predicted.

It is the Daily Mail being the Daily Mail but not good PR for the airport or Swissport.

On the Eurowings website only MUN is all year round. CGN and DUS have a break for 6 weeks in Jan/Feb, as CGN has in previous years.

But the Edelweiss flights from Zurich will run on Sundays from Christmas before going Fri, Sunday, Monday from clock change, and Wednesday in the peak: longer season and more flights.

EDI up 11.1%. I wonder how that compares with the increase in available seats? I have a feeling that the weakening economy is beginning to feed through.

Where did you get the data from? Can't see this published online anywhere? EDI on line team must be on holiday too....

It was on their Twitter feed. And if you search for the Glasgow figures on the BBC or other media they will have both Edinburgh and Aberdeen as well. It's usually up to a week before EDI gets round to posting them on their own website. I assume they have some intern who drops in occasionally!

Growth may have slowed but seems higher than many comparable airports.

Be interesting to see if Air Transat re-introduce flights to EDI, when they get the A321neo. They operated for years on 757's to and from YYZ.

Details on the A321neo order - here

That would be welcome indeed. I personally think Canada is underserved from EDI.

Busiest June on record for Edinburgh Airport | Edinburgh Airport

Interesting that there is an increase in domestic PAX, after many months of static or even decline.
