Reports are that EY brought their own towbar with them aboard the A346 as the ground handlers at EDI don't have one that's suitable but unfortunately they brought the wrong one by mistake. Red faces for EY.
The A345 and A346 use a different towbar from the A342, A343, A332 and A333.

As it was a one off they'll not need to worry again! I dont think the smaller A330 runs full on average looking at previous monthly figures, even during UK high summer.
How do figures for EY and QR compare with ie MAN?

81% average last July and that was only their second month of operation. I'd expect that to be higher this year accounting for some modest growth, but thanks to the CAA's continued incompetence in publishing the route stats we won't know anytime soon...
It's reasonable to say that certain flights on certain peak days will be full at this time of year.
I have yet to hear anything concrete on why the A346 was sent. It may be the A332 was overbooked, the seat map on EDI-AUH was showing surprisingly few empty seats on the A346 given it was a short notice switch from A332 (not an exact science I know but gives an idea).
On the other hand it may be that they are suffering some sort of A332 availability issue just now, which would seem strange given the number they have in their fleet, but there was also an A333 substitute a couple of weeks ago so it hasn't been a one off.

Not being funny, I thought the B748 was the world's longest airliner?
747-400: 70.6m
777-300ER: 73.9m
A340-600: 75.36m
747-8i: 76.3m
Although technically the An225 is the longest, at 84m.

Planned year round DL EDI-JFK scrapped, reduced to less than daily end of this summer then dropped completely for the winter 16/17 returning Spring S17 with a reduced schedule increasing for peak summer. Had a feeling this would be the case. Theres just not the winter inbound demand to support two carriers. I think even GLA carries more pax than EDI to NYC during some winter months on their single UA service. More changes to follow I bet.

Its disappointing but its more a response to BREXIT than anything else. See Delta' latest announcement:

Whether or not it's completely down to Brexit we'll never know. It may never have worked out anyway.
AFAIK it's 6x weekly in October, then 5x weekly until Jan. Returns 5x weekly in March and back to 6x weekly in May. Still doesn't appear to return to daily though, even July is still 6x weekly.
No 767 next year either, nearly every European city was on the 767 this year so it seems to very much be a one off season.

That's disappointing considering all the American carriers seemed to be doing well. It's a joke that Edinburgh doesn't have a year round flight to JFK. All uk airports are having American flights cut though so it might just be that the airlines are seeing how the markets respond after brexit before making any commitments. It will be interesting to see if delta's launch in to Glasgow next year will go ahead as planned.

Why is it a joke they don't have year round New York JFK, they have year round New York Newark, just like GLA, BHX and BFS.
As for Brexit, well that's this year's excuse for everything it seems.

Brexit is going to have an effect, if only from a cost point of view, but less so where inbound business / tourism is the driver.

It is instructive to look back at the various posts on this thread in late April when DL announced upgrade from a 757 to a 767. Let's just say that it is clear that Skipness-One -Echo, VickersViscount and CabinCrewe have a somewhat better understanding of the industry than A350Saltire and GoEDI.
One assumes that EDI offered a "deal" for DL to introduce JFK - why? Why add more seats to a route that clearly doesn't need them and further stress EDI's inadequate facilities (see my previous posts)!

We were told by the COO of Edinburgh Airport that Delta had introduced the 767 to the JFK route because of strong business class demand during the peak summer. Now obviously following Brexit, this demand has reduced significantly which is why you are now seeing reductions at various airports (not just EDI). I am sure this will all be temporary though until the uncertainty disappears.
DL knew exactly what they were getting into at EDI due to their experience through VS with its Little Red experiment and it must have been convincing enough for them to decide that a direct service to JFK for SkyTeam customers was what was needed. That's not to say EDI didn't support them with some attractive charges.
I may not know as much about the industry as others on here but surely all we can expect is for posters to be impartial.
