One assumes that EDI offered a "deal" for DL to introduce JFK - why? Why add more seats to a route that clearly doesn't need them and further stress EDI's inadequate facilities (see my previous posts)!
Obviously I don't agree with you. i find I hard to just accept blindly the opinions of posters on here who spout nothing but negativity to airports that are perhaps rivals to their local one.

We were told by the COO of Edinburgh Airport that Delta had introduced the 767 to the JFK route because of strong business class demand during the peak summer. Now obviously following Brexit, this demand has reduced significantly which is why you are now seeing reductions at various airports (not just EDI). I am sure this will all be temporary though until the uncertainty disappears.

DL knew exactly what they were getting into at EDI due to their experience through VS with its Little Red experiment and it must have been convincing enough for them to decide that a direct service to JFK for SkyTeam customers was what was needed. That's not to say EDI didn't support them with some attractive charges.

I may not know as much about the industry as others on here but surely all we can expect is for posters to be impartial.
