Pabely
Iraqi Airways fly 1 weekly to Erbil and 1 weekly to Sulaimayah to MAN with
B738 inbound via Malmo for security and outbound direct and have
for a few months now IAW266/7/8/9 and I am told that the fares
are EXPENSIVE!

The Iraq flights now clear security in Vienna once again. Loads are good on both routes, and, as Ian has said, fares can be pretty eye watering!

Fiven the above info, I'm sure there could be room for a low frequency zargosjet flight.

On a different topic, VLM appear to have handled an average 28 PAX per flight from LTN during June but still the NYC by La Compagnie service appears to not be mentioned on the flight data stats on the CAA website!

The CPH route for June handled 33097 PAX which is incredible.

With 6165 PAX having flown on the Istanbul service during June-I would say Atlas has proved to operate a successful route and may it continue.

I now believe the airport will handle 11.8 million passengers this year end.
I flew the VLM route recently, there were very few seats left on both sectors.

I was also in Galway recently and understand that a group of local business men are looking at to re-opening the airport to commercial traffic. Wouldn't it be good if VLM brought back the Galway route to Luton, after all it was a very popular service and in its prime provided up to 3 daily departures. I appreciate Ryanair provide a link to Knock but it's much more convenient flying directly into the city airport instead of having to endure the drive from Knock.

The former easyjet HQ/spectators building and car park now has contractor demolition signs attached to the fences and the barriered entrances now have high portable fences across them. A couple of machines are also onsite so maybe Monday it will start to come down unless the interior is gutted first for recyclable material.

In the terminal more sections of wall have come down between the former arrivals hall and main terminal.

A planning application for the multistory car park still hasn't been put in to the council yet but artist impressions of the CTA show a car park with 5 levels including the ground floor.

Many happy memories of the speccys approx 83-89. Spent most weekends there when I should have been chasing girls. Blew a fortune in the jukebox.
The top floor of the car park would make a great replacement, and a goldmine for the airport but guess their priorities lie elsewhere.

you could build a tunnel off the main line from the south straight into the Terminal - like the proposed Slough - T5 link from Langley

Just been looking at the traffic via Google map. It seems to be congested from the terminal all the way back to Capability Green. Tunnel flooded????

I can't see any heavy rail solution either via tunnels of a diversion of the main line or a dedicated link again via a tunnel to the main line. If it headed south it would be quite a long route via mostly tunneling before it intersected the main line and then trains would have to be scheduled in to an already busy route.

As Luton Airport is not of national importance and with government cuts to spending I can't see them paying for any heavy rail link.

floods

This photo was taken in August 2004. It shows the damage done when water from the Holiday Inn car park spilled over with enough force to wash away part of the wooden fence as well as the earth on the bank.

Just past this point, there is a concrete duct (visible on Google Earth) which seems to start on the perimeter track up near the alpha taxiway. I suspect much of the water that floods the tunnel comes down this channel, which spills water directly across the footpath into the road about 20 yards from the tunnel. One day I've promised myself to stand there in a deluge and confirm my theory!

El Al

El Al don't seem to have any 767 flights from LTN next summer and the number of weekly flights cut to 11x weekly.

Is this usually the case, with the 767 flights going on sale at a later date?

Shortage of aircraft, that is why they have leased the Privilege Style B767 for the summer which has appeared several times on services into Luton. There has been the odd El Al B767 in during the last few weeks. This was marked up some months ago regarding aircraft shortages this year.

Istanbul

With 6165 PAX having flown on the Istanbul service during June-I would say Atlas has proved to operate a successful route and may it continue.
That only works out to be 102 seats per flight in each direction...

Originally I thought the flight was meant to be operated by an A321, but if you look on the airlines booking engine, nearly all flights are on the A320. That means you are only looking at around 55-60% loads on a 180 seat aircraft...

Very low compared to easyJet and Ryanair that have 85-90% loads on their flights.

While I am not saying the AtlasGlobal flight loads are disasterous, they are far from the success that some people seem to go on about on this forum.

People also regularly mention they wouldn't be surprised the airlines launches a 2nd daily service on the route, but going by these figures, that is likely to be quite some distance off, especially when they can add capacity with the A321 before even upgrading frequencies.

Judging by SeatGuru, AtlasGlobal's A320's have 158 seats, in which case the avg. LF would be about 65%.

I also assumed it was doing much better than that based in the fanfare I read on this thread.

Those loads are roughly the same as achieved at STN, which of course was eventually dropped.

Tunnel floods

Judging by what I've seen this morning a lot of water also flows down the fire station access road!

Thomson

Today is the first replacement for the Enfidha flight. Instead the 737 goes to Reus in the morning and goes to Paphos in the afternoon. This makes Paphos 3 weekly from Thomson and 2 weekly for Reus.

Incorrect!....Last Sunday saw the start of the revised REU/PFO Sunday program (The REU flight was empty on return so positioned elsewhere)

LTN has actually gained a flight here as previously the Enfidha flights operated as a "W" pattern through STN

I must say I am surprised to see the low figures on the KKK flights. Especially because of the second daily flights that were put on last week.

I have noticed in recent days a few additional flights put on by Blue Air to Bucharest, in addition to an upgrade from 737-400 to 737-800.

KKK, it is poor yields and not always loads that mark the end of a route.
