Of course, the great irony of this decision is that I believe that it prevents DU opening long haul routes to places outside of the US where the UK has bi-laterals (i.e. India, South Africa, Hong Kong etc), so in essence what the DOT have done is forced DU to concentrate their long haul expansion on US routes. Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot...

Freeing up the 788s for expansion elsewhere...

Norwegian has announce 2 new routes from Gatwick beginning later this year; Reykjavik (3 weekly) and Rovaniemi (2 weekly). Rovaniemi is the gateway to Lapland and this is the first schedule flight from the UK. All other flights are charters.

I flew with Norwegian from Malaga to Edinburgh yesterday having flown out there the previous Saturday. On both flights (2 different aircraft) the wifi which they make a big thing out of, did not work. I heard a lot of people complaining about it. Does this happen regularly?

Yes, wifi on Norwegian is not something you would bet your life on. Sometimes it works (reasonably) well, sometimes it is extremely slow and sometimes it does not work at all.
In a short article in a Swedish IT magazine I read it was stated that the capacity was 12 MBit/s downstream (for all passengers to share) as well there are no management of how much each passenger takes of the capacity.

Generally the wifi system itself is fairly reliable.

Some aircraft are not fitted with wifi, these are mainly a few of the older leased aircraft where the owner won't grant approval to drill holes in the roof !!

Also the aircraft are not currently fitted with wifi from the factory (though that is going to change i'm told) so if the aircraft has been delivered over the summer it won't get the wifi fitted until the Autumn, this is done at Budapest, the aircraft with wifi have a large hump on the rear fuselage.

There is no easy way to tell in advance if your aircraft will have wifi, but if you've signed into your Norwegian account with a mobile number you will often get text advising you can check in and it will say wifi available (if its fitted)

The other way is if you are flying say from EDI/BHX to Spain these flights are done by Spanish based aircraft and the inbound will be the same aircraft flying back to Spain so a look on flight radar24 will show you a picture of the aircraft (normally from Airliners nett) this has the tail hero and you can see the hump.

The Norwegian in flight app has been upgraded recently and is quicker to load, search wifi.norwegian in your browser and it should load with GO ONLINE

Finally quality will obviously depend on the number of users, the system blocs certain down loads or updates that will reduce performance, if the flight is not full or its late at night and people are a sleep it tends to be quicker

I would put a strong guess that the 2 UK bases will be Manchester and Edinburgh.

Thomas Rahmdahl just this week on the launch of MAN-TFS/LPA said that the growth 'doesn't stop there' with TFS being a year round route according to him but not bookable past March where all other routes are, so could be switching to a MAN based aircraft?

That with very recent media bytes of 'Manchester/Edinburgh-New York for £200 in 2017', one would expect a based aircraft at each for the routes to take place.

BHX mentions seem to have gone quiet of late and so far only 4 destinations next summer, so maybe talks dampened down a bit?

Come to CWL please !!!! Great airline such as Norwegian would do well at CWL

Or wishful thinking on my behalf but as they already operate a weekly TFS flight for TOM people are getting to hear about them more
