GnrdL,
Thank you for your valuable posts on Alicante Airport. I hope the airport prospers and justifies the investment; Fortune Favours the Brave in these troubled times. I live in the mountains behind Denia but the thought of using the train from Denia to Alicante is laughable since it is drawn by the retired white mice from Cinderalla's coach.
There has been a campaign for years to put a decent rail link between Valencia and Alicante serving the prosperous coastal towns. The thought of being able connect by rail to either Valencia or Alicante airports is attractive and, despite the taxi operators opposition, would be a financial boost for the region. My information on this is poor, can you tell us something?

Why there are no buses to early morning flights to Alicante airport? The first bus from city is at 6:30 and arrives to airport when a bunch of Ryanair flights have already left.

Railway infrastructures - Community of Valencia 2010-2020:
Adif - Plan de Cercanías para Valencia
In the video link, you'll notice a project for a line between Valencia and Alicante on the coast with stop in Denia (min. 3:10 - 3:28).
Due to the bad economic situation, all the railway projects for 2010-2020 in Community of Valencia are stand by, except the new double railway between Alicante and Torrellano (with a stop at the airport).

Not so clever
Shame about the non-NOTAM'ed runway WIP. Hundreds of pax bags left behind last week as a result. ALC management are not so clever after all. (At least some of them)
Wanted
Low cost airline to fly between Durham Tees Valley airport and Alicante three or four times a week. Passengers waiting, sick of having to travel to NCL or LBA. 90% loads on most flights in 2010.

@Mr.Bloggs:
Currently the runway is shortened to 2380 meters until the start of the summer season. I think is enough for most flights.

Also Jet2 increases Manchester (7x/w => 9x/w) and Newcastle (4x/w => 6x/w).

Alicante:
Ryanair will reinforce their operations only in July with an additional aircraft (eleven, if I am right). Additional frequencies to BLL, ORK, BVA, CRL, NRN, GSE, NYO, HAU, RYG or TRF and the temporary reopening of AAR (it seems).
