I would hope thats just a transponder/Flightradar error. Otherwise there would be a problem

I initially thought it might be a Flightradar error but it seems to have been the case for a few days. Maybe the transponder?

Thomson Bases - Winter 2015/16

Does anyone have information regarding which aircraft will be based at each base this coming winter?

Thank you

Aircraft are not assigned specific bases at all, during summer or winter. They are rotated around bases generally for engineering purposes. Durations vary at each base.

oceanhawk,

I am fully aware of this. I did not mean which specific aircraft (i.e. registrations). I simply meant which types of aircraft and how many of each type (i.e. 738, 752, etc).

New Long Haul Routes

Thomson are launching new routes from MAN & STN

02MAY16 Manchester – Aruba
03MAY16 London Stansted – Cancun
04MAY16 London Stansted – Orlando Sanford
05MAY16 London Gatwick – Varadero

Looks like they are going head to head with TCX from STN.

I can't understand the logic of airlines trying to steal market share by doing things like that, going head to head with TCX, why not offer different destinations, more variety for passengers and still offering competition instead of going straight into the exact same routes!? How much would it have hurt Thomson to maybe do STN-Puerto Vallarta and STN-Punta Cana/Montego Bay?

Unless London - Orlando/Cancun is a drastically underserved market

It's how business works, you go after the market where you feel you can make money and to do that they need to steal market share from the other guy whilst growing the existing market and keeping fares high enough to minimise losses while that happens. In terms of CAN and SFB, they're defending their own market share in London to stop existing Thomson LGW customers popping off to Stansted to use Thomas Cook.

I can see what you mean Skipness, suppose it does make sense but Gatwick is still a TOM stronghold just as TCX is going after Manchester, but from a customer perspective I'd rather have more choice

EDIT: Thomson is still also way ahead in terms of the country as a whole, doubt if Thomas Cook could ever come near them in terms of size long haul

Didn't the 763 go to LBA a couple of years in a W pattern from MAN?

TCX have dramatically changed there long haul business model, with connections feeding into MAN from the UK regions on BE, from Germany on LH and I think SK is on the cards soon from Scandinavia, with a focus on North America.

TOM are concentrating on beach destinations from the main airports and some regional.

Nice to see Thomson resuming Luxor flights from LGW in November and MAN further down the line.

Having just had a long holiday in the region I can assure everyone that security is very tight. At Luxor airport there are at least 4 security check points including random explosive checks on hand luggage.

I really hope the Nile Cruise industry picks up as sailing down the Nile is an experience of a lifetime and an excellent way to see Egypt.
