Don't read too much into the extra legroom option on the 757 showing on the website, even the Dreamliner long haul routes offers seats on the 757 with extra legroom! Obviously a glitch in the website

I see from the TOM website that many routes from EMA for s16 are offering extra legroom space on the '757 aircraft
There are about 3 rows on the 757s (and 737s) which are extra legroom, plus the normal extra space seats which are exit and bulkheads. Extra legroom seats have 34" pitch.

Thomson's First B787-9

According to 'all things 787', Thomson's first B787-9 is due to be built in Charleston for delivery end of May 16/beginning of June 16.

I think that confirms Jethro's comment '13 Further Boeing B788-8 options - Expected to be converted to Boeing B789-9 orders', and that the rest of the B787's being delivered to TUI group will be the '9' version.

that's interesting- i had no idea that 789s were on the cards. Presumably efficiency gains outweigh the additional cost. Wonder if Thomo will get some rotated in. Maybe more info on Investors Day.

Hi all,

Does anyone know what aircraft will be used by Thomson for Gatwick to Antalya in July 2015. I believe it will be a 767 but the select your seat is showing a 2-4-2 configuration in the extra legroom area.

many thanks

Great! I think I asked about this possibility months ago. But are they meant to be getting high density, all economy 788's? Says so on wikipedia

Two things, first, perhaps being pedantic, TOM's fleet is all economy, and I would have thought there would always be extra legroom seats adjacent to emergency exits whatever the type, or config.

Second, please don't believe everything you read on wikipedia!

I believe G-TUIB & TUIH are going to be having their premium cabins removed with additional 3-3-3 economy being put in it's place for a total of 325 seats (up from 288) - they will (in theory) be restricted to the shorthaul network through the summer.

The order for 787-9s could open up some interesting possibilities for the airline, you get the capacity of an A330-300 - which is more than anything Britannia/Thomson have had before but with range and capability that surpasses the -8.

I notice that Thomson's long haul seat pitch has crept down from 33/34" to 32" recently, have they squeezed an extra row into their 787's? Not a huge issue as they still offer the largest seat pitch of any UK airline in economy though.

I also assume since the all economy 787's will 'only' have 325 seats then they will still have a ~32" pitch throughout, since the short haul 767's have 328 seats shoehorned into them! At least this will lessen the damage if passengers flying long haul routes have their aircraft subbed.

Finally does anybody know how many 787-9's have been ordered by Thomson/TUI?

TOM fleet configuration

Hello all I'm sure this has been written previously but for those that do t know here is how Thomsons fleet is configured.

757-200 221 seats. All 3-3 configuration. Rows 8, 10 and 11 are extra LEGROOM SEATS 36 in pitch.
Row 12 ABCDE(NO F seat) and 32 ABCDEF are extra SPACE EXIT ROWS

Also rows 13 to 31 legroom is 31-32 inches as a row was removed around two years ago.

767-300 328 seats. All Economy 2-4-2 configuration with a 30in pitch.
There are no extra LEGROOM seats on the 767 and the EXTRA SPACE EXIT SEATS ARE LOCATED AT ROWS 15 (CDE) and ROWS 30 (ABCDEFGH). These rows are at a bulkhead however.

283 and 291 configuration is normally irrelevant in the UK now. 291 is mainly used in the winter from Scandinavia. The 258 seaters have all left the fleet.

787-8 Dreamliner is in the process of being configured from 291 to 300 seats with an extra row in economy.

Economy club is 3-3-3 configuration with a 32-33in pitch (even with the extra row added). The extra legroom seats are located at rows 11 to 13 ABC and GHJ (DEF are standard seats). Extra space seats at located at row 30 ABCDEFGHJ and still at row 10 ABCDEFGHJ (all except 30ABC and DEF are at bulkheads).

Premium Club is a very spacious 2-3-2 configuration with around 38inches of legroom.

With regards to the "High Density" 787 the only difference will be that Premium club will be removed and Economy Club Seats will be added (hence the 325 all economy layout) which then can easily be switched back to premium club at the beginning of winter. Only 2 787s will be reconfigured at this time.

737-800 has 189 seats. I'm not trained on this aircraft so can't remember 100% but I believe the extra legroom seats are at Rows 2 to 5 right hand side ONLY. Also Rows 15 and 16 are extra legroom too. These are next to the Emergency Exits.

Regards 787Heaven

Not unusual for airlines to start new types off with a decent seat pitch, to get it accepted by the punters, and then later quietly reduce it to get more seats in. Seen it done often.

The 787 fleet across the whole group will all be configured to 300 seats from November for long haul flying, 1 extra row of nine seats will be in economy , min seat pitch 32" but some rows will have more.

the new 300 seat B787-8 config was a compromise so as all of the TUI airlines have the same number of seats on the B788. TOM was on the only one with less than 300 seats (the other two had more than 300).

Currently there are only 4x B787-9 which have been ordered, they're only for TOM and will be delivered one per year 16/17/18/19. They will seat 345 pax.

Its the announcement that the Thomson name is gone and it will just be the TUI name.

All the airline brands (Arke/tuifly/thomson etc) will also be just 'TUI' and all the airlines will be UK based.

I very much doubt that! It may well be that the HQ will be in the UK but the various fleets will continue to be based and most likely registered in their country of origin.

Sorry, was just quoting the media sources that said 'the various airline groups will merge into a UK based operation'.
