China to give Manchester Airport Group jobs boost - Telegraph

If you read the article, you will see that this is a separate business to Manchester Airport. No Chinese money for EMA!

I notice from the CAA Provisional Stats for September, EMA has passed Liverpool in the Rolling Year pax numbers.

Weekend maintenance closures.

3 Saturdays nights and 3 Sunday nights every November and March the airport closes for neccesary Runway maintenance.

The runway will be back open in time for the Monday morning departures.

Cargo West

Whilst reading the information section for EMA in anna aero recently, I noticed the following entry:-
"EMA Cargo West is currently undergoing an extension which will add 4 widebody stands.."
I am not sure how up-to-date this section is, but I do know the airport received planning approval for this expansion back in 2011.

As my business no longer takes me through the airport, I wondered if anyone could advise me if this work has actually started/when it is planned, or if in fact it has been shelved until some future date?

In actual fact I believe the stands have already been built and have been used!! I noticed a Qatar airways aircraft parked where I believe the stands are located... So no need to assume nothing happens at our local airport!!!!!!!

Nimrod6,

Thanks for the feed-back; I didn't know whether this work may have been delayed due to the downturn in the economy, as other apron expansion projects on Caro East appear to have been?

I now understand the stands are designated 200-203 with 200 able to accommodate aircraft up to A380-800 size, 201 B747-400 and 202/3 both C17.

Not quite.

The new 200 series are not operational stands, and are not designated as stands. They are tail in aircraft parking/storage positions. 200 can take up to A388, 201 takes up to AN-124 and the others take up to C17 as you say. These are purely limited to unloaded, empty aircraft that are just parked up though. No operational or maintenance activities can be done on the 200s for various reasons.

The 'new' main wide-body stands capable of handling up to AN-124 are now 98, 107, 109 and 111 with one of them (off the top of my head I think it's 107) able to take the AN-225.

The west apron has been almost completely repainted you see with almost every stand moving slightly (some by as little as 1m). With the Juliet taxiline shifting significantly to the west (and being downgraded in code south of the stopbar) to accomodate the new parking fingers.

The south facing stands now run 98-114 (all the L and R stands have been removed) and also take the wide bodies.

The west facing stands now run from 120-125 with 121-125 being able to take various maximum sizes from B737 up to B752, 120 is still able to take B777s etc.

The works were completed around mid-august.

They were also preceeded by the November ramp being repainted. 42 is now the big stand capable of taking the B787-800 and, though we dont have any on pax services, B777-200. 40 was realigned on a slight angle so that the aircraft no longer point straight towards the lighting stantion as there were occasionally issues getting pushback tugs around the stantion in order to hook up for B737-800s

Interesting news on East Midlands Today a couple of days ago.

The Davies commission interim statement released a few days ago has calculated that EMA only uses 18% of its runway capacity at present, therefore rejects expansion at BHX as an option but states that EMA should be expanded and should be handling between 12-14million pax by 2050.

Good news that the Davies Commision supports EMA.

In fact 3 of MAGs 4 airports have been specifically mentioned for expansion.

Not having a go at you but how have they any idea what will happen? They're trying to predict what will happen in 37 years time.

Look at predictions from 1977 and see whether they've come true: I still haven't got my robot butler or flight to Mars, but I don't think anybody predicted what me and you are doing now.

And I think they said Donny airport would have 'X' M passengers by 2020. I wish!

I have no idea and, like you, doubt pax figures will reach that level (though it would be excellent if it did, but would definitely need the existing terminal replacing to manage it)

However, the main point is that it is interesting/nice to see that the Davies commision specifically mentions expanding EMA and specifically mentions not expanding BHX in an effort to take pressure off London Airports.

Stuart

Please can you list the reduction in flights to CDG GLA and EDI?

Is BE pulling the CDG route all together?

cruise flights

stuart hammond

Re the cruise flights what BHX services have they replaced?

CAA stats for BHX to Norway in 2012 on all routes showw nil, 2011 nil and 98 in the whole of 2010. Is it possible these pax went via KLM or SAS as nothing springs to mind. I can't even think of any one-off flights let alone a series although you would have thought that there has been the occasional charter.

In fact direct services to Norway have been an embarrassment with Ryanair Torp the last regular service.
