Improving situation likely to in the short and medium term with a busy summer schedule and routes selling well. Potential Baby closure a cloud on the horizon though.

Flybe - Really "great news" for EMA!
I'm afraid another quasi scheduled bucket and spade IT route by Jet2 hardly qualifies as great news, but a "proper" scheduled, based operations by an airline that bridges the gap between lo-co and full service on meaningful business routes most certainly does.
I'm afraid it does tend to sound the death-knell for at least the business routes currently offered by BMI Baby. Hopefully it doesn't sound the death-knell for Baby full stop.

It must be presumed that with only 2 based aircraft, they will operate early morning and evening flights to CDG and AMS, and EDI, GLA, BHD will be operated on their own aircraft... i'd imagine the frequencies to be 2 or 3x daily, but I'd have thought they'd be on the Dash 8's to begin with, but who knows...
At the moment, Jet2 look to be maintaining 3 aircraft, but long way to go before S13.

An e-mail to me this morning from Flybe confirms that the 2 based aircraft at EMA will indeed be EMB-175s.
At a quick glance at the schedules, it seems as though the GLA and EDI routes (and presumably BHD) will be operated by aircraft from those bases so, in the light of the news this afternoon with Baby, I would imagine that a number of new routes will be announced to fill the gaps in the schedules of the 2 based.

Monarch have just announced a new base at East Midlands Airport. Looks like they taking up some of the soon to be ex bmi baby routes.
Monarch to launch new regional base
Monarch has announced a further expansion of its operations across the Midlands with the launch of a new base at East Midlands Airport and also additional flights from Birmingham.
The airline will launch new flights to key leisure destinations across the Mediterranean, including to Malaga, Alicante, Palma and Faro in Portugal from the Midlands in late summer.
In addition, it will expand its operations from Birmingham by adding more flights to Malaga, Alicante, Faro Rome and Palma plus a new route to Barcelona.
Monarch managing director Kevin George said: "In light of recent industry changes, opportunities have opened up in the market. It has become clear that the Midlands will be underserved as a region in the future, and that there is a lack of quality carriers to serve customers travelling from the area.
"As an airline with over 40 years heritage and a stronghold in the Midlands already, the expansion of our existing services from Birmingham and the launch of operations from East Midlands makes perfect sense for Monarch, and accelerates the strategy we announced last year to focus on the development of our scheduled operations into key leisure destinations across the Mediterranean, the Canaries and North Africa."

Baby to close down 9th september 2012 BA/AIG obvs doesnt consider the regional airports/ passengers and staff, only uses the BMI brand for the slots. Too much power for BA to be able to do so.

Sorry mate, but BA (or London Airways) as they should be called, have had bu@@er all interest in airports outside London, unless they run domestic operations to feed the London hubs. The only interest that IAG ever had was in the LHR slots, and Baby's best chance of continuing was to be bought, but losing as much as they do, and not having slots themselves at LHR/LGW made them unattractive even to a daring venture capitalist.
As I suggested a while ago, there were no grounds for optimism for another carrier buying the airline, as there would be extra costs in TUPE-ing staff which, if the potential suitors waited long enough, they would not need to bother with, as they could cherry-pick worthwhile routes. Monarch seem to have done just that, at both EMA and BHX. Monarch's early swoop should stifle any hopes of major expanion by Jet2, and to be honest, I think EMA are better off with a quality carrier such as Monarch.
My best wishes to all those who's jobs are effected by this unfortunate turn of events.

From an EMA and not a Baby point of view all the major routes operated by Baby have already been covered, two airlines with bases have been gained. Hopefully some opportunities will arise for flight and ground crews.
Perhaps other operators are also looking to expand at EMA.

Well done to EMA, I hope that the excellent BmiBaby staff will be able to find new opportunities with the new crowd etc. Looks like EMA is picking up now. Interestin times ahead.
