I hope that it does NOT happen, as I have friends who work at Jet2.
But many carriers have gone to the wall in similar circumstances :-
Dan-Air, Air Europe, Laker and Courtline to name but four.
If the bums are not on seats then its the accountants who will call the shots and despite a top class workforce they see the bottom line and not the people behind those figures.

As for lowering T&C's there is much rubbish talked on these forums.
Its time people realised that the RYR way (Paid when you fly) is what will see them through the recession when others fail.

I have seen the industry bounce up and down for the last 30+ years and I am happy to say that it was not RYR who have caused the drop in T&C's they have just taken advantage of the situation.
It is the accountants who have cut costs and conditions to make more of the big buck for the share holders, and they have used the LCC excuse to justify their decisions.

The crew costs were easy targets rather than dealing with high costs associated with fuel hungry equipment, increasing airport and regulatory charges.

This winter will be hard, lets hope it wont see too may casualties.

Day dreamer - what 'accountants'? Any why should we be trembling because of what some accountant thinks?

30 years in the industry?

Ryanair have hedged their fuel.
You are correct they have, unfortunately for them though they hedged at much higher costs than the current market cost, I believe it was around $130 per barrel.

Jet2 at LBA

At LBA Jet2 are in an almost unique position of having a large catchment area almost to themselfs, it will not last. No other medium size airport has only one LoCo carrier and this is the reason that LBA lags well behind other airports in terms of pax numbers, have they reached 3 million yet? it should be closer to 7 million.

Ryanair will change that much as they have at EMA and else where and Jet2 will have to learn to live with it. With some routes PM can't just walk away because he has boxed himself in with Jet2 hollidays.com and once you go down the IT route your cost go through the roof if you start changing airports/flydates ect, if it was such a clever idea MOl would have done it years ago he didn't!

Ryanair at Leeds will give PM a heart attack and stop its growth elsewhere in its tracks because LEEDS is the Jet2 cash cow.

Sadly PM is boxed into a corner he depends on LBA they aren't big enough to see off ryanair(the flying bit made 300k last year) or offer anyone else a dream deal (DSA MME) so they will have to live with it and use the advantages that they have despite old fuel hungry kit, Ryanair are a dreadful airline to deal with and sadly Jet2, baby and others have morphed into much of the same, this requires a step change in customer handling skill's and that is one area that MOL is at his weakest He doen't have any and the rule makers are slowly catching up with him, i would rather not fly than fly with Ryanair and there are plenty of other airlines out there, but Jet2 need to get their heads around that they are coming , if not them others!! The only way that Bridgepoint can give LCC £XXXX m is by ramping up the pax numbers to fill the car park and expand the shopping.

Good luck to all

PS Next time MOL slags off Jet2 as a "crappy little airline" then PM should keep his gob shut, look what the Russians are doing Georgia

Have used both airlines for business and pleasure and for me Jet 2 win hands down. I do not like the Ryanair "school bus" fight to board and also the way bags or other items are used by other passengers to stop you sitting down near to them, seat allocation is much better. But Ryanair are a true low cost airline and you get what you pay for. I personally am happy to pay more for the Jet 2 service and hope they survive and prosper. I used two other airlines in the last two months one a national carrier and the other a major uk carrier Jet 2 and their cabin crew were better by far on my recent jolly to La-Rochelle. I suppose they have had Leeds to themselves for the last few years and it was only a matter of time before the competition came along. I will still be supporting them and I also hope all the crew can be kept and looked after. I work with a lot of ex Channel Express crew and engineers who seem a little anti PM but hope Jet 2 survive SO DO I !!!

Havnt been on here much in the recent two week but from what i have been reading in the last few pages, and a thread on Key Publishing Forums, i can kind of gather that the talk of this thread is the FR vs LS at LBA. Dont know if it's just me, but i would rarther go with the poorest airline, or even not fly than walk anywhere near FR.

As i have said on the other forum, LS has a strong Yorkshire passanger base and luckly several 1000 passangers fly more than once with them in a year so this could hold them to a advantage. A second advantage that LS has over FR is that they fly straight into direct into the 'proper' airport unlike FR who fly you well over 7,000 miles from where you want to be (slight exagaration but hey who gives a damn). This would hold LS with the upper hand as they can through at the yorkshire people why fly to Girona when you can fly to Barcelona or something along those lines.

The only Advantage FR hold over LS is the more modern fleet they have. But at the end of the day who gives a damn how old your aircraft is, aslong as they well maintain it that is all that matters to me.

Again another point, am pleased to see that potentailly the passangers figures could rise significantly, but i wouldnt want FR to be the cause of that, know i would rather see a much 'classier' carrier do that EZY comes to mind here. I would fly EZ over FR anyday of the week.

Spare us the banality please. If people want to a forum to talk about the customer experience of jet2 vs Ryanair, then there are lots of outlets for this. But it's got precious little to do with the commercial success of FR vs LS in Leeds considering nothing whatsoever is known about FR's plans for LBA.

(1) If Ryanair expand at Leeds which routes would operate (unknown)
(2) What frequency would they operate (unknown)
(3) If the routes duplicate Jet2, what is the new total seat capacity compared to the overall market size (unknown)

So, other than an awareness discussions are going on or have gone on, nothing is known. Ryanair coming to LBA and operating double daily PMI, AGP, MJV, FAO and IBZ has completely different consequences to them operating 10 or 15 routes on a 2, 3 or 4 weekly basis to a mix of places as they have done in BRS, BHX, EDI and MAN.

If FR operate from LBA on an existing route AND the total capacity exceeds the demand AND they and LS charge the same fares AND the arrival and departure times is the same , then and only then, will a debate about "my granny will never fly with FR...." become relevant or interesting.

Lets be honest Ryanair is talking to many airports, I think its slightly early to be discussing where and when they will operate to or be in LBA.

What does concern me is that my recent experiences with Jet2 to Paris and Belfast from leeds have been very poor to what they where this time last year, if others are finding this then if FR appear it could have an effect.

I am no lover of FR but if the flights cheap and I am not pressed for time then I would use them.

I am also not a lover of FR, But To be honest I think Jet 2 need to employ 'more' mature Cabin Crew.

Went to PMI last month, And the service was quite poor, Immature cabin crew with hardly no customer service skills.

Whether or not they are on a 6 month contract?? Think they should improve their onboard service.

I guess you get what you pay for at 'Yorkshire's own Airline'.

Mr Meeson is not short of a 'few' million thou.

I'm still backing Jet 2.

I have flown several times from LBA with Jet2,I have always found their cabin crew to be professional, smart, and willing to chat and have a laugh.

Last month on my flight to Dusseldorf there was an 'older' female cabin crew member, and I remember thinking 'good on you love'giving the youngsters a run for their money.

If any other loco carriers were to come to LBA,whether it be Ryanair or whoever,if they offer me a flight to a destination I want to go to I would fly with them, sorry Jet2!.

Mr Messon is short of more than a few million if you look at what has done to his stock holding (and that of many others) over the last 18 months!!

Do they know how to answer the phones at LBIA???

Being trying all day to get through to the Airport switchboard/Information desk.

You get put on hold.....Please wait for an operator

Not much of an International Airport if you can't speak to someone.

My wife's also tried all day (unsucessfully)

Don’t know if it's just me, but i would rather go with the poorest airline, or even not fly than walk anywhere near FR
Right where do I start. Been only 15 I have had very limited flying experience with airlines and can only go on what I hear, see and read. Must have been a little bit annoyed as I do have a few friends (them family ones) who fly for LS and would hate to seem them go under.

This may sound hypocritical, but I cant go on what I hear see and read so I need to go into a Subject like this with an open mind something I didn’t do a few posts ago. Anyway into the hypocritical me, and here I go. I wouldn’t mind see FR at LBA as this may but LS into a position where they feel they have to buy knew aircraft. A new list of destinations to the LBA departure boards can only be good and if potentially the passengers figures can rise than am all the more for it. I would hate to see LS go under as they seem to be a good airline and have brought LBA upto to what it is today and if it wasn’t for them then I don’t think FR would be thinking about moving into LBA.

As for competition well it is all about the fares and schedules to these destinations that could potentially see them both fly in and out to these destinations. Barcelona and that part of the Spanish coast seems to have enough demand to support both airlines in they’re venture to become king of the route (or that might be a slight exaggeration). I would love see Frankfurt and others added to the destination list at LBA. I can see though FR using the aircraft based at places such as Frankfurt on the route.

All in all I would welcome FR into LBA soo long as they have done what they have done down in BRS with EZY stay out of each others way and everything will be fine. An extra two aircraft at LBA wont heart anyone I would reckon. Though I see because they only see LS as a small low cost airline unlike Easy Jet they might bully and eventually LS goes into FR.

Now what about LS announcing the RHO and TLV will start next year. I haven’t seen the schedule yet nor the prices but I was wondering what A/C will operate these flights.

Jet22, just another Ryanair basher, with limited aviation experience, you seem to assume alot, and not know much.

Ryanair wont base at Leeds, theres no point, they just operate aircraft based at the destination airport. With Ryanair having an apparent 111 737-800's on order, they can boost their routes by basing more aircraft at current bases, than opening new ones, especially where a certain airline is already well established.

I'm not fussed about Ryanair operating new routes out of Leeds, so long as they can learn to take taxiway D when landing on 14, its irritating to get a landing clearance 5 seconds before touchdown!!!

Of course that would be Frankfurt Hahn, the old USAF base about 50 miles from Frankfurt. Sorry but I'd rather fly Jet 2 to where I want to go and not be abandoned when things go wrong. I've flown Jet2 6 times and Ryanair once in the last couple of years. I wont fly ryanair again through choice. Once was enough!

Never flown with Ryanair but probably more than 70 times with Jet2 and it has always been good.
I just wondered what happens when you fly with Ryanair. No reserved seats and you board the aircraft which is almost full and you have wife plus 2/3 young children around 5 to 6 years old and you cannot sit together as a family.
The kids cannot sit alone so does this cause problems for other passengers.

Problem I had was the inbound flight diverted due fog and Ryanair cancelled my outbound flight, leaving me and the family stranded in a queue of 180 trying to book an alternate way home to Stanstead. When I finally got to the desk I was told first available flight was in 3 days. I ended up getting a flight that evening from an airport 70 miles away to Liverpool! I had to make my way there and from Liverpool to Stanstead.
To conpound the pain they tried to charge me excess baggage for my 2 paid for suitcases, as one was overweight! The other was under but common sense did not apply, so rather than pay their fees I held up the queue whist I moved shoes etc from one suitcase to the other until both were within limits.
Absolutely priceless! my cheap flight ended up costing a whole lot more the first taxi alone being over 100 euros. Wonder why I prefer Jet 2?

I agree, Customer Service is = NIL at Ryanair.

Had a trip a few years ago from STN, Looked great at the time of booking, Until we realised that my wife had not changed her passport maiden name.

Ryanair had no intention of helping us, 2 18 yr old gals on an 'iron board' of a desk, With no use nor ornament to the pax.

They didn't want to know, But were going to charge us 130.00 for a return flight to BRU, When we paid 18.00 online all because of the passport.

We didn't go to BRU and headed back up the A1 in a 'Bad Mood'

Hate STN it's no atmosphere, Like a Greenhouse.

Not been back since.

It's a fact 75% of Ryanair pax never use them again.

I'm voting for Jet2
