It would also depend on things like crew rostering etc. I assume that a lot of the EI crew in Belfast are still Dubs overnighting?

I wouldn't be too sure that the Belfast market couldn't support that level of flights. EI currently send two 80% full A320s a day over from Cork to Amsterdam and, while I realise Easyjet are operating the route from Belfast too, Belfast has a much bigger catchment area than Cork. The crucial thing is that over half the traffic on the Cork flights is transferring on to KLM services.

There have been no DUB cabin crew working out of belfast for at least the last few weeks - and plans are that no more will be up - the base, at least on the cabin crew front is pretty much self sufficient! The 3rd group of crew come online in time for the new routes at the end of the month.

Not sure whats happening with the pilots - think there are quite a few in training! but alas - i pay little attention to whats going on in that regard!

Cheers!!

Ah, so the extensions to the long stay car park are for the Ryanair caravan park for all the extra crew.

there are indeed. not in a caravan, rather a small mobile RV type machine. Big shiney silver covers on the inside of the windows.

Obviously not the only ejits. The motorhome is owned by one person who uses it to travel to and from work.

Probably too early to say re. BFS-LHR, but it looks like annual total won't meet the SNN-LHR total of 331,000. Yield, who knows?

I think "new" refers to the previously announced routes that have yet to start operating. They would be "new" from a crew perspective. Although CDG is now due to start albeit at the expense of an AMS rotation.

The figures for Feb/Mar will give a better indication for the LHr routes. Considering the BFS/LHR route only operated for the second half of Jan.

If Bmi figures have dropped 13% for Jan then i think Feb we can expect to see a 25%+ drop in figures.

Question

You have to be kidding!!

What on earth are EI trying to prove other than how to lose more money faster than any other carrier!!! This BFS venture is turning into the biggest business joke in Northern Ireland. Wise up guys get us some new exciting routes are start preparing a quick exit stratagey. The likes of EZY and others are laughing at your desperation.

SKY's4ME,

I would be very careful in what you say.

Remember, if BA start to advertise the BFS-LHR connection flight I think we may see a dramatic increase in PAX numbers. Worldwide destinations are available from LHR and are now more easily reached than from AMS (as EI reduce the service to AMS to only daily compared to LHR 3x daily). KL won't really be bothered but the Belfast market is now once again open to BA who (I hope!) will take full advantage of the service provided by EI.

Not to mention that LHR links with the world city!

I can see both BMI and EI being successful on the route. The numbers may be down due to the FR flights but with some re-structuring (andmaybe some reduction from BMI) both airlines will help the BFS/BHD-LHR routes a major success.

Lets not forget that on routes where easy and aerlingus compete both have experience similar loads for December, Aer Lingus around 30-40% and easyjet around 40-50% the same will probably be said for the rest of the winter.

Only Aer Lingus and British Airways offer the best connections from Belfast to the world through LHR so I'm sure the route will improve as we continue towards the summer season.

'new'

by new i mean new crew! sorry! they are coming online intime for the 3rd aircraft which will operate FAO FCO AGP and FAO! NCE will be done by a/c 1 when the GVA stops as well as the CDG in place of 1 of the AMS rotations!

Just to comment on loads, as there are a lot of scathing comments about what the company are doing! The loads are going up and up - its a new base, its a slow time of year - give the green planes a chance!

How about trying one of the flights? Lost count of how many passengers have deplaned telling us how fantastic the flight was and how they havent had service like it since BA pulled out!

Give us a try and see what you think!

Have a nice weekend everyone!

The BFS bashers continue!!!!!

The fact is that BFS is a new base, launched int he quiet time of the year. Traffic is slow for most airlines at this time of the year. LHR is improving, and should be able to steal a lot of BD's LHR pax, with connections from BA etc. AMS is being reduced to daily, maybe because the traffic isnt there, with a lot of pax flying to LHR to connect, or taking direct flights ex BFS to Europe/US with EI, EZY, CO etc. EI will be competing with EZY and Jet2 on most of its routes, but the routes that they chose are routes with high pax numbers, so they obviously think they can steal some of their pax and create new demand. DUS, MUC etc may come online in the future, but give EI at BFS a chance. The base is barely open, and according to many it may as well close down because every flight isnt full!!!!!!!!!!

Yield must now be just as tricky an exercise as it was out battling RYR out of SNN. At least on SNN-LHR they only had to pay the £10 APD on one sector LHR-SNN ,instead of both.
