The fact that some posters are blaming the competition from Jet2 makes no sense as the routes EZY have dropped frequencies on or indeed have gone altogether are routes that JET2 and EZY don't compete on.

Having just looked through various internet flight searches, including XL and some of the major tour operators, it appears XL Airways are no longer offering flights under XLA flight numbers for Summer 08. All flying seems to have been subbed out and the amount of destinations and frequencies drastically reduced.
JSI, KVA, JTR, KGS, ALC, AGP, SSH, DLM, FNC all seem not to be bookable, and less flights to PMI, CFU, RHO, PFO and TFS. Is this just a temporary measure until S08 programmes are finalised or has the consolidation in the charter market really hit NCL hard?

skyman771 - you need to read my reply carefully before going off on a rant. My post states that and those that are blaming Jet2 are wrong in their assumption that this is the reason for the reduction in JET2 routes. The routes EZY have pulled are not the ones for which they are competing directly with Jet2 on!!!
At no time have I indicated that " pull out of your strongest routes just because there is competition & leave your less ecconomical routes in place". My post was saying that those blaming Jet2 for the EZY redduction were incorrect.
So go bang your head somewhere else please.

The reason behind the reduction in EZY capacity is simple. Historically easyjet and others make a loss in the winter season it is therefore necessary to limit the losses so routes which are unprofitable during this period are chopped or capacity reduced. As for competition its fair to say that easyjet wouldn't bow to any pressure from jet2 etc, if anything its more likely ezy would turn up the heat on its competitors.

So is that all the winter schedules released. No new routes?. Have noticed that the Stansted is only twice daily on some Mondays and three times other days, a bigger reduction than origionally thought. Strange that the mid morning service stops in November, its usually very busy. Dont know how this will cope on a route that carrys about 25/32000 pax per month.
So now there will be just one early morning flight to both Stansted and Gatwick as Jet 2 has also changed times so there is no mid morning service to either airport. Only BA to LHR will have a mid morning service if you can get on it.
Cant understand the logic, certainly not good for passengers travelling to london and who dont want to leave at about 6/7am.

The Stansted seems to go from 5 daily (most days) to 4 daily from the end of Oct then it goes to 3 daily (most days ) from sometime in November to March, but only 2 return flights on some Mondays. Not sure what it is at weekends. Quite a cutback.

Easy STN Mondays
The two a day Monday STN seems to be from the start of the winter until second week in December it then goes to 3 per Monday for the rest of the winter, give or take B/H.

I think you could be spot on! Of the bases left operating the Boeing (LTN, BFS & NCL) I think it would make a lot of sense to convert NCL to the Airbus at a time when demand is at its lowest.
By reducing ac from 7-5 during the winter for say Oct-Jan, that would allow 10 crews (2 ac) to be re-trained on the 319, before ramping it back up to a 7 ac base for the start of summer 2008, with it being all Bus by July/Aug.

Easyjet
They have taken a lot of people on over the last couple of months and all new starters are being trained on both the 737 and A319.
I would have thought that unless they start to base the A319 at NCL in the spring then all the staff which are at NCL who are airbus trained will have to be re-trained which will cost a lot of extra money!
There was a competition a while ago in one of the airliners mags with one of the captains at NCL and she was saying in the interview that at the end of the year the flight deck at NCL would be getting trained on the A319 ready for the base to change over to all airbus by the middle of summer 2008.
Hopefully this is still going ahead!!

XL airways / Kosmar holidays
transwede
Dont all be jumping the gun here on next summer with xl.
Kosmar holidays is the main tour operator who use xl and they are same company.
Kosmar have not put there summer 2008 holidays on sale yet so only a limited amount of routes are on sale which are being used by different holiday companys.
Looking at mytravel website they are still using xla flight numbers so where has this information come from that xl have lost there work to TCX???
Kosmar holidays also doesn't really have a lot of competetion on there routes from the big 4 (Thomson,First Choice, Thomas Cook and Mytravel) spain and cyprus yes they do but not for the smaller islands so the mergers i cant see changing this so i think we will see all the routes go on sale this month or next.
The last time i looked xl needed 2 aircraft certain days along with the air malta aircraft.
Also TCX and MYT holidays are selling there holidays on different days of the week so unless the upset customers by changing the day they go on holiday i say we will have 3 TCX and 3 TOM aircraft.
When First Choice put summer 2008 holidays on sale they are using the flight times and days of TOM and not TCX as it was stated in the brochures.
Im busy working on a timetable also will email it to you all when ready

For the greece flights the two main companies are Kosmar and Olympic, both have operated for many years, and prior to SCY arriving with a based aircraft most were operated in reverse by foreign carriers remember TransAer, Cronus etc? So even if XL do not cover these flights, which seems unlikely as HH6072 said XL now own Kosmar, I can't see them not happening. Greece is a big market for NCL and I believe it is (or was) the 3rd biggest source of UK tourist to Greece.
Another round of FJE bashing by the BBC tonight I see, apparently they have sub-chartered an aircraft to operate today's delayed departure and tomorrows while FJEA is repaired, anyone know who is covering?
