The only rumour I've heard regarding Bremen is a route to Vasteras.
The're more and other rumours regarding FR’s 3rd plane in Bremen. On a press conference in January Bremens airport boss Manfred Fluss said, new destinations will likely be Stockholm (presumably Skavsta), Biarritz, Carcassonne, Sevilla and Faro - subject to FR's ultimate decision.

First inofficial reckonings show a good start in Bremen. Lots of travellers from baltic and scandinavia. Also TUIfly may have shot itself in the foot by rejecting it's routes from Bremen to the spanish mainland. Malaga seems to become a runner. Many Bremen citizens own fincas down there.

Apart from the size to small apron FR's expansion in Bremen is only limited by a non-cannibalism-contract with the airport, forbiding routes that are already flown by the old-established airlines LH, KLM, AF, Air Berlin, Condor, TUIfly and OLT. So, for instance there will be no PMI or Canaries.

Giving up Finland?

It looks as if Ryanair is giving up its market share in Finland.

Despite undeniable success on the German route to Hahn, it looks now that overall Ryanair's strategy in Finland didn't work as expected. Three years ago FR had to retreat from serving the twice-daily link between Tampere and Stockholm Skavsta, this year it already decided to scrap all the morning flights from Stansted to TMP and right now the next connection to Finland just disappeared from its booking system. After May 6th there will be no more flights from Liverpool (originally they were scheduled until the end of October). The reasons? Liverpool hasn't been given a real chance to prove its notability, some other destinations were perhaps improperly selected, late-evening flights unsuitable for passengers and the lack of "sunny" destinations very unfortunate. Moreover, the carrier has also been unable to convince the airport authorities in the country that investing in low-cost terminals in Tampere or Helsinki could be profitable. Anyway, in the case of Finland the expansion of Ryanair doesn't seem to be a success story, for the timebeing at least.

FR to launch long haul carrier ...

According to Flight International, FR is to launch a long haul (transatlantic) carrier, to operate from its 23 EU bases to the US (presumably,Canada too, once that O/S deal is sorted out). It aims to launch around the turn of the decade using 40-50 787s or A350s ... how it's going to get so many of these when production slots are full is another thing ...

This is going to be interesting to watch; he is also talking about a premium service "on a par with Virgin", but with low frills fares starting as low as $12.

This is a big U turn from someone who said the Ryanair model would never work with wide body aircraft

He's obviously trying to influence the Aer Lingus share price. Look at the timing, EI has just announced some expansion on the Atlantic and an aircraft order is imminent

To me this is no shock, and a very good idea.
why would we all think that one of the fastest growing airlines
in the world would not take up this venture when offered on a plate.
The next biggest thing since the Loco's revelution MOL was always
going to be in on it, even though he told us all otherwise.

I think MAD, PIK, STN, DUB a safe bet.

Chiglet

I bet you were one of the ones LOL, when MOL told the
world in 1997 that he would have over 120 new B737-800
with the option of 100's more with in ten year, (2007),
flying 42.5 million pax on approx 430 european routes,
overtating BA on total Pax numbers, By mid 2009, Ryanair
will be carrying 70 million passengers at 23 bases across Europe.

So I look forward to you, like you say, falling flat on the floor
when this next venture happens.

Ryanair "premium" service! Don't make me laugh. Mol doesn't know what service means, let alone premium!

Sorry mate, you just don't get it.
Like Carbheatin said - he's still faffing around with the ALT takeover and this is just more spin. What a transparent piece of crap. How could you be taken in?

Coincidentally, the Irish airwaves today were buzzing with more BAD NEWS stories about Ryanairs mugged passengers. Flights cancelled, people stranded, child invalids being screwed for 75 euro 'handling charges' to be carried on board....nobody from FR would come on air to defend themselves, even when taunted by George Hook (an evening news show presenter).

On a day when they should've been crowing their BIG PLAN from the roof top - they slunk off in the dark. Tossers.

I think that ryanair tapped into a market which changed in a big way after 2001. Many of the current airlines will have begun consolidation by 2009, I also don't think the existing long haul carriers will be caught sleeping on the job this time, I hope he sees a bigger fight on his hands than he got on short haul.

Ryanair on Transatlantic Routes

Of course this makes good sense. However, when I have ever suggested on here that Ryanair will in the medium term go into Long Haul, I got all the usual replies saying that Low cost doesnt work on long haul as the aircraft cannot be utilised as highly as on short flights.. and therefore they would not have a competitive advantage

The reality is apart from the issue of the level of utilisation on the aircraft , Ryanair have economies of scale on many front , buying power for aircraft, leverage with airports , BIG cash reserves to use in case of price wars. And this is a market that is on demand and with the lowest cost base FR would do well.

It would appear from many comments by MOL about Aer Lingus that ( and in my view) EI would be a vehicle for entry into long haul flying for the enlarged FR organisation. I believe the when the bid by FR to proceed with the EI purchase is denied FR will announce a T/A operation, firstly to the East Coast of the US with 738 (like GSM) and as for availability of aircraft for Long Haul, I think FR would only have to click its fingers for Boeing or Airbus to come up with the goods.

What are anyone elses views?

I think it would be curtains for mainline premium services from the regions- say goodbye to CO and DL from the regions.

Ryanair to USA

Fron to-day's Irish Independent
O'Leary planning low-fare flights to US destinations
RYANAIR chief Michael O'Leary is planning a low-fares blitz on transatlantic routes.
He intends buying 50 planes to offer flights between Ireland, other European countries and the US for as little as €10.
Speaking to the Irish Independent last night, the company confirmed Mr O'Leary's plans.
But it claimed that it could be four or five years before the new routes are launched.
Although other airlines have attempted to start a low fares transatlantic operation without success, Mr O'Leary said the new Open Skies deal between Europe and the US means such a service would now make sense.
The Open Skies deal allows European airlines to fly to any destination in the US and vice versa.
Only signed last month, it was expected to lead to much greater competition.
But even seasoned industry observers will be surprised at how quickly Mr O'Leary has embraced the chance to fly transatlantic routes.
The company is not planning to replicate its European services on long-haul routes. Instead, it plans to offer a business class as well as a normal economy class.
Ryanair will set up a new company to operate the new services.
It will be a subsidiary of Ryanair and will likely have a different name with an individual brand.
The company is planning on buying up to 50 new planes to operate the transatlantic services. It will buy either Airbus A350s or Boeing 787s. Plane prices are currently at record levels with many airlines chasing a limited number of new models.
But Mr O'Leary expects prices will fall before the new services are offered.
