Yep heard the same rumour, containers are to be sent back to Tehran.

As for loads, I have monitored the pax via the CAA stats and the best
monthly average was 120-130 and the low - 60 odd.

On average it was 80-90 (March 2007 the average was 92 pax per flight).

Therefore passenger wise no surprise to me but what did do well apparently was Cargo, especially when it was the 310.

Cargo never seems to complain about being trucked to another airport.

However whilst the loads may be high for cargo, the revenue is pretty damn poor at the moment.

I know we are buying cargo space at ridiculuosly low rates at the moment, from all carriers.

I see the operators of Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport are looking at trying to encourage operators to begin scheduled flights from ESH to various UK & French airports, Birmingham being one of them. Currently Shoreham has flights to Alderney, Caen, Le Havre & Le Touqet which are operated by Blue Islands or Skydrift (trading as Skysouth) using Trislanders & Pa31's.

However, I'm not sure if there would be enough support for a regular ESH-BHX flight, even with a Pa31.

Was the last scheduled service to use a Pa31 into BHX the BHX-NWI flight (can't remember the operator)?

A 'new' carrier in Birmingham European Airways are looking to launch with the J31, obviously from BHX.

This was in the local press in Birmingham over 18 months ago but no now I understand. Website still exists but no forward movement (A friend of my Uncle works at BHX and knows the people so nothing currently happening on that one I am afraid).

Birmingham European Airways

Contrary to views expressed by nav3 this project is still going ahead. You would not believe the time that has been expended by the management on presentations to investors, business plans, aircraft analysis, etc etc.

We have been keeping the website updated and the latest info we have is on there.

A word of thanks to all those pilots & other staff who have expressed an interest in joining BEA. We have retained all CV's sent and will respond at the appropriate time.

The business plan has been expanded to cover the operation of an executive jet and hope to have some firm news on this shortly.

Again a thanks to everyone who has expressed interest in our project.

Good look!

Manx2 have started superbly, and Jetstream are looking to start soon. Maybe these airlines are the re-birth of regional airlines! We have had the LC revolution, but now more people are starting to turn their backs on the eco claims of high pollution from the airlines after the claims by airlines of only 2% being contributed from the industry.

People turning their backs on LC airlines!?!

What utter rubbish!

Most LC airlines are running over 85% load factor compared to some legacy operators who struggle to make 50%.

The 'New Money' see low cost flying as their right rather than a privilege.

If you look at the expansion plans for Ryanair for example, then the low cost revolution continues unhindered despite the rhetoric from polticians who see aviation as an easy tax target. ( no pun intended)!!

T2/Norwegian

Actually visited BHX today (not as pax) and it was very spacious in T1 with flybe in T2, except for the dreadful entry point to T1 departures

On the way out I went through T2 and it was less than 2 hours to departure for the Norwegian and there was no noticeable desk open but there was about 15 people standing around looking bewildered.

Also the first flight departed one hour late after arriving 15 late and today
was only marginally better.

Not sure what the problems were.

NO!

I wasnt saying replcaing LC carriers, but the regional carriers such as EZE and ASW are starting to see more carriers join them such as M2 and JXT, and that BHX European Airways another to add to the list.

LC airlines will never be replaced by regional carriers, as prices cannot be even dreamed about within the same price bracket.

DY

Yeah I heard that the first DY went late despite arriving early. Apparently it went 30 mins late yesterday too, even though it arrived early. The pax loads aren't brilliant at the mo either. About 66 I think on the 1st one.

113 inbound on the first but included some non-revs and I heard 60 odd outbound yesterday.

Early days though.

TOM long-haul 2008

Posted on the NCL thread, quote: -

"The new routes from Birmingham to Jamaica and Punta Cana and Newcastle to Florida, Punta Cana and Cancun as well as additional flights from Manchester and Gatwick do not compete with potential merger partner First Choice's routes"

end of quote

At last some good route news but I assume it will be at the expense of
some Med flights, which hopefully will just get downgraded to the 757 and
they will do more flying. One 757 I believe this summer does one flight on
a Monday, which would have been unheard of a few years ago.

Aston Villa and Major Asian Airline

Article in Birmingham Post

New Aston Villa chief executive Richard FitzGerald yesterday lent his support to the campaign to get an extended runway at Birmingham International Airport.

And he revealed that a major Asian airline was looking to partner with the club if the problem could be overcome.

Speaking at the Hippodrome Theatre to Breakfast Connection, an event run by Birmingham Forward and Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Mr FitzGerald declined to reveal which airline was in the frame, albeit in a separate context Emirates - fast developing services out of the city - was mentioned in passing.

Alternatively, pundits suggest Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific might be other candidates. Afterwards Mr FitzGerald said the sort of partners Villa was looking to link up with would be international companies.

"International companies require international facilities," he noted.

Was it Emirates - it is already a backer of Arsenal? "No comment," said Mr FitzGerald.

The knockback came as he revealed that Villa were looking at a major marketing shake-up.

Perhaps 100 marketing message bombarded visitors to Villa Park - "everywhere there is a different message".

That needed to come down to around eight majors.

Nike has already been unveiled as one and Mr FitzGerald stressed: "That is huge for us."

He confirmed that finances would be made available to manager Martin O'Neill to buy players in the summer in addition to the £12 million upgrade of training facilities at Bodymoor Heath and £5 million to reopen and restore the Holte hotel.

Mr FitzGerald cautioned that the worst thing possible would be to simply "spend, spend, spend".

The spending is though likely to take in a redevelopment of the North Stand and the Villa Village, perhaps three years or more away, which could take capacity up by 10,000 seats to around 52,000.

That was why the club needed to recruit partners "to join us on the way".

And he added: "We are going to build a club, not just chuck money around."

That also means addressing the supporter mix coming to matches - 97 per cent are white albeit the ground is in an area where 60 per cent are non-white in a city which will soon become the first with an ethnic majority.

This imbalance was of "some concern" to Villa and would be addressed through expanded school and community programmes.

Mr FitzGerald indicated that World Cup football could be on its way back to Villa Park after a gap of more than 50 years - if England entice the tournament to these shores.

Villa Park forms part of a bid by the Football Association to try to revive the glory days of 1966 - when England ulimately emerged victorious at Wembley against West Germany.

Mr FitzGerald revealed that Villa Park was one of the grounds in the 2018 bid, as well as a key venue for the 2012 Olympics.

He said: "We are in the 2018 World Cup plan as one of the grounds to host the World Cup."

Mr FitzGerald also reiterated that Villa aimed to be in the Champions League within five years under the new Randy Lerner regime.

"This is a five to 10-year project. We believe that we would like to be competing for the Champions League within the next five years.

"I know that there has not been a lot of trophies - we need to get back to winning ways. Randy Lerner is very passionate about the ground, he is very passionate about the club, he loves the history and tradition."

Mr FitzGerald said he was confident the glory days could return under O'Neill.

"I think that everybody will see that he is one of the top European managers."

Well apart from going on to advertise the Villa a bit too much. If it were true it would be good news.
The new outline plans for the new tower are done. They must complete this before commencing with the runway extension to enable ATC to view the work area. All are hoping that BIA get something right with this. We need an iconic towerthat will be recognised world wide to get people talking. I suppose that they will go for cheap and cheerfull and have something that doesn't make any statement. We live in hope....

BHX's pathetic website

The children (they can't be intelligent adults) who manage BIA's pathetic attempt at a website have decided that we need the sound of (supposedly) aircraft engines in the background. Whilst I appreciate that most of the management team at BHX don't know what aeroplanes are, I don't think adults who use the website need background noise. Can anyone advise how to switch the stupid noise off (except for don't visit the website which I unfortunately have to).

Angry BHX Website

banotok, sorry i have no idea how to get rid of the stupid aeroplane noise that seems to be randomly generated by the website but i must agree that compared with other airports in the UK, BHX could do better!!!

As for FlyWhoosh, fair play if it works i really hope they make a go of it but i'm still not sure!

banotok, on 'contact' us' part of site, email them your thoughts about the aircraft sound. If enough do it, perhaps they will listen?

website/Dundee

Yes, the aircraft noise on the site is annoying and I expect that when the individual responsible wakes up from their dream it will be removed .

However trying to wake them by e-mail is a long shot, I have sent a couple over the years and I did not even get an automated response but
it was a few years ago since I last bothered.

As for Dundee, a good route and all I can hope it works even with it's
connections to other less than impressive venture.

Twice a day on an ATR seems ambitious and it is one route I thought that Eastern or Scot might have looked at in the past. Well saying that, they
probably both have and decided it is not worth the risk.
