Ex SNN aircraft is going on Donegal PSO so couldn't be based at Cork for service. Numbers will probably be bolstered somewhat with the SNN cut but wouldn't expect major service increase. FR will likely add those services from SNN

Traffic will be down in 2015 too.
The best thing for cork IMO, is to lose Ryanair completely so they can attract in other airlines. Maybe if Ryanair pull out it may push the DAA into clearing the debt of cork.

ORK and SNN should have both been cut loose at the same time but should have kept their debt. As it is now, with DUB and ORK taking SNN's debt, and DUB gearing up for parallel runway, taking ORK'S debt on would potentially hold DUB, and consequently the entire industry in Ireland back overall. Can ORK survive independently with it's debt? I doubt it.
Somebody has to take the debt on for ORK to go solo, and whoever gets it will rightly feel screwed. Letting Shannon go debt free was foolish from DUB and ORK's point of view. As usual, everyone else has to foot their bill.

Whatever Ryanair are paying its some income.
Can you show where there is a massive pent up demand from various airlines to serve Cork?

Simon Coveney was on the radio over the weekend talking about, FR being the only option to save Cork! No idea how, but that's his thought process! Needless to say, so many years of inaction, it becomes obvious they are thinking about the 2016 election! Will be the same as always! Nothing will happen!

While I view FR as a last resort as a passenger, it would concern me thinking an airport felt they were the only hope. Far too powerful a position for a ruthless business like Ryanair. However, I think most people would agree they are playing a game trying to force lower charges and that could only be a good thing if it came about.

I wonder as to how good the meeting between minister Coveney and the DAA went.
I actually saw him coming out the door of the terminal this morning, assumedly post meeting, and he seemed very distracted.
An omen, perhaps?
On another note, RTE news interviewed a member of Cork chamber of commerce, who introduced us to a campaign to have the cork terminal debt "parked", for ten years.
Should it not be assumed by the daa, as Shannon's was, and put both southern airports on an even competitive footing?
It beggars belief that Cork' s politicians allowed Cork airport to be put at such a competitive disadvantage vis-a-vis Shannon.
It's time for Minister Coveney, and junior Ministers Murphy(Foreign Affairs) and Lynch, to STEP UP TO THE MARK.

Too simplistic!
I'm afraid that talk of SNN's and ORK's debt being assumed by the DAA cannot be compared. Let's not forget the enormous cash cow- Aer Rianta International, that originated and was based in Shannon that was taken by the DAA as part of the setting-free of Shannon. This prestigious and highly-profitable entity represented a proud part of Shannon's legacy of commercial innovation in a highly competitive international marketplace and its transfer to Dublin was a cruel blow to the western airport. Unfortunately there's nothing comparable for Cork to trade for a similar debt-free status.

Good lad gaelgeoir. It's about time someone else understood what actually happened to Shannon's debt. Shannon did in effect barter by giving away €20-30m p.a. profits from ARI which effectively meant that the DAA was not absorbing any of Shannon's debt. It was a trade off that did not cost the Irish tax payer a cent.
It is also worthwhile to take into account that over the years the DAA has as a group boasted about its figures whilst stating Shannon airport & Cork we're loosing money.
ARI was a company created by Shannon airport and generated 100's of millions of profits over the years and the DAA also solely benefited in recent years from the sale of assets in the ARI portfolio.
Cork need to be innovative at the end of the day.

Cork Airport Business Park as both an asset and an income stream is no longer Cork's in the DAA's books. While not as valuable as Aer Rianta International, it would still make a nice dent in Cork's debt or alternatively an income stream.
Regarding Coveney, I think he's woken up late to what is happening here politically and I don't mean in its effect on Cork...
