Came over to ORK this afternoon - about 30 of us. I'm loving the Cityjet service but I fear the lunchtime/afternoon rotation is struggling which is a great pity.

An e-mail from Iberia Express just popped-up in my inbox announcing route to Cork starting June 2016 - guess it will originate from either BCN or MAD

It's Madrid.
And it's not a very good email if it left you guessing

No wonder. 4887 passengers in November. I know there have been cancellations due to fog and wind but it looks like the load factor has not improved. And Cityjet has cancelled flights for January to March.

Confirms what I've experienced on most of my flights. It will be a great opportunity lost if WX pull it but clearly the majority either prefer travelling via LHR (understandable for onwards) or just automatically book with FR. Fingers crossed it picks up as its a great service at a good price but it does seem to be limping along with disappointing patronage. Clearly there IS a finite and possibly saturated market LON-ORK.

Comments implied that they were picking up leisure passengers, but not business passengers.

The lack of a frequent flyer program can't help in this regard, although the coming changes to Aer Lingus one might work in their favour if a lot of bottom-tier Gold Circle members lose lounge access as seems likely.

They need to be brave and challenge the market. I'm a regular on the ORK-LHR and note that when prices are high with EI they are also high with WX. The incentive for me would be WX to be more than a cursory amount cheaper. Otherwise, as the cartel stands, it's one train ride less to travel with known commoditiy EI.

Are the new EIR flights book able? I've been looking at GLA and NCL and it seems only the original schedule is available? Can't see the extra frequencies anywhere?

Cityjet CEO in media yesterdays asking people to support the LCY service - hard to see it surviving past next summer unless dramatic improvement

In regards to Cityjet, people may not realise that the service would be much better, you get a free 20kg suitcase and a free snack.

CAT 3 Landing test a few years ago at Cork.

When the test for Cat 3 Approaches was done by Aer Lingus on runway 17 at Cork several years ago people said it failed due to the terrain approaching runway 17 and that Cat 3 would never be possible on this runway. I was told last week by someone involved with the test that it failed due to the position of the VOR so close to runway 17. The aircraft could not get a stable enough lock to comply with Cat 3 approaches due to the position of the VOR. Maybe Cat 3 would be available if the VOR would be moved. This would cost money so who would spend money at Cork Airport. Any other information out there about this story.?????
